Same size but modern AND retaining the smooth sequential turbos is the way to keep it OEM+. The amount of heat big single turbos generate and well as reduction in “smooth” delivery is big. I hope you take constructive criticism for what it is as I love the car and respect your experience with the rotary. Modern turbos are a huge step from 1991 to 2021, 30 years of power output and spool time more than replicate the older big single turbo modification. This car with butter smooth power delivery and a manual gear box to really explore the elasticity of the 20b rotary will have love struck. Exactly why I fell in love, and still am, with BMW M (NA Pre 2012). Looking forward to following this delicious project car 🚗

Poorly working dash clusters are typical problem for this era. Usually the problem is very easy to fix. Pull the dash out and replace all THT capacitors. It should help.
I have a 1991 type s cosmo with a 100 OEM 20b. The problems with mine are a bit similar to yours a connection point of mine is missing as well i have virually no rust execpt on the wipers and a tiny amount of rust on the top of trunk ( not the inside on the outside body) inside the owner had a radio but he disconnected it and a put a small piece of wood that has a velcro piece to hold it idk why. The back seat head rest have no internal parts to hold it up it seems, the time on the passesger side the led seems to have died out but other then that I got lucky in the fact my car has almost a 100 original interior which is super comfy. I hope you enjoy your cosmo man and I can't wait for more vids on a really under rated monster.
Joe Barbaro After we put it on the lift we did find 2 spots of rust, and there was a small patch on the trunk lid, but overall we were pretty surprised.
About the 4th gear overdrive problem might be transmission solenoid like you said or speed sensor that causes it have that problem and fixed by replacing speed sensor on my mazda 323 protege 2000
I got it for the body. You won't find another black Cosmo with the mazdaspeed kit in this condition for a while. It was either wait another 1-2 years for the right one to pop up or bite the bullet and go now. The added bonus is the car is cosmetically EXACTLY what I was going to do to a Cosmo regardless. It looks just like my Old FD. Black on gold LMs is my favorite look.

Nice! All of those flaws are perhaps annoying, but not show stoppers. Except the dash not working... probably just a blown fuse somewhere.

no rust on a 27 year old mazda, thats incredible. My 323f had 2 holes in the floor and the fuel tank started leaking after 1 winter.

Is there a reason why you went with the 13b over the 20b or did you just want a cosmo no matter what engine is in it?
