With modern bikes there's a unique opportunity to keep it very analogue and thereby timeless. I don't think AM wanted to lose out on that by slapping on a contemporary display that will be outdated in a couple of years.
Considering it's made in the aerospace region in southern France can you imagine them telling pilots to stick their iPhones in front of them to get readouts before take off in their multi million pound planes.
Looks like excellent craftmenship although trackbikes are set up to suit the rider not the other way around. And that crappy iphone dash, not to mention getting blown away doing 300 k plus down the straight without a front fairing. They should have simply made it a road bike. The bmw s1000rr dash looks great as for the fairing they could have had one that somehow that extends out electronically.
@Martin It was built to be a track bike . All bikes you see racing are a beautiful form . Look at the GP Ducati's ,they are gorgeous as are the HRC Hondas

You don’t look at a Valkyrie and say that it’s good form and not meant to be driven do you? Or maybe you do. Who knows.
That’s what helmets are for! Long as you got something between you and the air but yea aero helps at those speeds but honestly I don’t notice it to much on my GSXS-1000 till I hit like 140mph then it’s a factor when trying to go faster! Start beating you up basically! But I don’t ride that fast very often but I had to take her up to speed once just to see what it had and it just keeps pulling long after you have about shit yourself! 😳

I know how incredibly difficult it is to make a performance bike work well I know that only a fool would spend €108,000 on a bike that you can't ride on the road and is very likely to be unrideable. And I know that it is very likely to be nearly unrideable because turbocharged bike engines have always been extremely difficult to make work, even when you have the resources of factories like Suzuki Honda and Kawasaki. The whole thing is the typical sort of puff piece I would expect of a company that claims to be the original Brough Superior when, in fact, all it did was buy the name. I've been riding bikes for 40 years and I have seen plenty of bikes like this from Moto Scyz to Hesketh, Laverda and MZ, Morbidelli and others, and they've all been rubbish. Adding a swish car name does nothing to dismiss that possibility.

I am an enthusiastic Aston driver and still love to drive them every day after so many years. Whenever I am stunned by Aston's new inventions, I always pray that they don't drown themselves in beauty by designing hardly marketable art.
James, as an enthusiastic rider I do have some questions regarding this bike that hopefully will get answered. 1. As it's a track-only bike, what's the exhaust noise Decibel rating as in the UK, the vast majority of popular tracks have some form of limit (Usually 103db, some up to 108). 2. Are those brake discs shown the final production discs or just show discs? Track bikes usually have at least drilled discs to aid in cooling. 3. Is there enough space between the rear hugger and rear tyre to be able to fit tyre warmers? The video makes the gap seem incredibly small. 4. Are those bar ends removable to allow fitment of lever guards as at a minimum, a front brake lever guard is mandated across all UK track days these days.

Just to add a spot of context, ;-) 30 years ago, my Laverda 650 Formula has the fuel tank mounted in the middle section of the frame, as mentioned, to lower the COG, you are actually sat on the tank just under the seat, the battery is just above the pivot point of the swing arm, again, lowers the COG…The conventional space for the tank, is just a cover for the ram air and air box, along with the throttle bodies for the fuel injection…The Laverda has a modest angle for the steering, coupled with a short wheelbase for its class and a frame designed by F1 engineer Nico Bakker, means the handling is exceptional, stable, precise, helped by WP suspension, and Brembo Goldline brakes, also fitted to the more track focused Ducati 916 variants… The Aston/Brough bike is a stunning piece of engineering, and will probably just end up in a collection to be stared at, I’d be to scared to track it, though probably not a worry if you can afford one in the first place…

As a bike person this I feel only is good to look at. It fails as a bike to be ridden in so many ways. No wind deflection for the rider. Fuel tank shouldn't be at the rear as weight will be constantly changing on the rear suspension which you don't want. The front suspension with no forks would be another thing I'd worry about. As for a track bike you sure wouldn't want to drop this as I'd say even a small drop would cost a heap if not a write off on it. I'd find this to be a very unpractical bike. They should stick to cars as this thing is only a show piece for the rich.
@@mitchellsteindler the point is it’s overpriced junk built by a motorcycle company who hasn’t made bikes since the 20s so not a single hand that actually touched one of those original bikes in production built this bike, and a car company who doesn’t build motorcycles. Marketing ploy to help bring relevance to a bike that wouldn’t sell for more than 20k without the help of Aston badging, even then shouldn’t even be close to that price.
It looks like an beautiful art piece, but I'm not convinced it'll actually ride around a track well -- especially being a track only bike. It's long, and doesn't use telescopic forks. The front linkage appears to only have pre-load adjustment. The use of a front linkage will change trail braking, as the primary benefit of using this over forks is that you separate steering, braking and suspension functions. However, one of the benefits of forks on track is that you can shorten the wheelbase of your motorcycle by compressing the forks under heavy braking -- allowing you to turn in faster. You don't see front linkage much on superbikes because of this (and cost/weight), but it is present on bikes like the BMW GS and other touring type motorcycles, as the separation of braking and suspension is desired. Note that Vyrus, a small Italian company that makes exotic sport bikes, makes a few motorcycles that use hub-centered steering and have a linkage. Additionally, there appears to be no wind protection to help riders down long straights and the long wheel base will slow turn in on corner entry. Most track going superbikes will have a titanium exhaust, which essentially renders the inconel exhaust irrelevant. Perhaps this is necessary because the Brough Superior motor is turbocharged it requires the higher temperature rating. It is a bit disappointing that it makes 180HP, when the naturally aspirated superbikes make 200+ in track trim. I can't help but feel that this bike is designed to be sat in the garage or on display, and hasn't taken into account what a rider would need at the track. It's a car person's take on what they believe a motorcycle should be. A 1:1 power to weight is something that sounds impressive in the context of cars, but essentially the whole modern crop of superbikes have this and at a fraction of the cost. For me, it appears to be too much form and not enough function -- but we won't know until there is a direct comparison between this bike what manufacturers like BMW or Ducati put out in the "ultra-premium" section.
Agreed on all counts. I was about to make some of the same points, but you nailed it. I ride super sport myself and while this bike is a beautiful thing, it would make better sense to put a headlight and street tires on it. Those brakes are not track ready either. I actually doubt if they're any good on spirited street riding. Perhaps this would make a good drag bike, but even then, the windscreen would need to be higher.
I’ve been an avid bike enthusiast since 1958 and I still ride today. I’ve had many bikes over he years including some interesting ones such as a Munch TTSE 1200. Much as I love many of Aston Martin’s previous car designs, it pains me to say I’m not a fan of your new motorcycle, the collaboration with Brough Superior. Other famous marques have done similar things and generally I am not a fan of theirs either. Ferrari, Maserati spring to mind. I’m not sure what it is, but they all seem to produce bikes with a similar theme, over designed, try hards. This particular motorcycle looks like nothing I’d want to pilot at speed. The lack of a faring or screen that may benefit the rider, plus the lack of any place to grip your knees of behind. The front suspension looked interesting, though appeared very similar to the new Brough Superior based in France. Also, the attempt at linking their history with the original company rings hollow. The two companies bare no relationship to one another, save for the name. Yes the new product tried to follow some of George Brough’s ideas, but other than that, there is no historical link between the two companies. This must be viewed as nothing more than a cheap attempt to cash in on a famous old motorcycle marque that has been extinct for many years. It seems to me that car makers are more often than not, better off sticking to cars. Motorcycle design and manufacture would seem to be more acceptable when undertaken by motorcycle people.
Great content and insight into a marque of beauty, hopefully the project will evolve to a road bike and eventually seeing the Aston Martin/Brough Superior name in bike racing with one of their products.
Beautiful looking bike. Yes, it makes sense for someone who is an expert at riding to take it for a spin and comment on it's performance. Not the first time they have ventured beyond cars. There are Aston boats that look pretty awesome.

Initially, I was searching for brake fluid reservoir. But when you pointed out, it really blown my mind. All OEMs should take notes on this type of reservoir arrangement. I would like to see some occasional bike content. It's like adding one more flavour to the dish. Can we expect to to see this beauty in action in about 4-5 months?
The reason they are positioned that way is that the reservoir needs to be the highest point for either the clutch or the brake system. What they've done here is form over function.

The tank does not move from side to side and slosh the fuel about! the tyres move around under the centre of gravity it’s a common misunderstanding they have tried to fit the fuel tank low down and found it doesn’t work in race bike …. Slow moving heavy tourers benefit from a low centre of gravity
I gotta be honest that this bike is the type of bike that I would dream about building and being a bike but to the core, hearing the Brough Superior name being used alongside Aston Martin, I honestly couldn’t think of a more fitting collaboration. What an absolute pleasure to see, now all I need is a foot up onto the business ladder and make myself a successful entrepreneur.

That's no where near accurate . There's a massive difference between the Chinese carbon fiber components you'd buy on eBay and the carbon fiber used here. Try googling carbon fiber and you'll see there is a bunch of different grades. There's different manufacturing processes, different weaves, and many other factors that can make the final products vary substantially. This is a 100k motorcycle. The entire point is to flex on it's design and the quality of the materials used.

Like the new Vantage the front of that bike is horrible. Its also not functional as at anything over 50mph the wind buffeting will be horrible. Pointless vanity exercise.

I DON'T LIKE THIS NO FUNCTIONAL BIKE, Doesn't has a windshield, nor proper gauges, those tires won't work for everyday use, the amount of power for such a lightweight fragile bike will kill you on the first long run. I think this is a piece of art to display in a showroom, is not a bike to ride
Why do people who actually know little about bikes, still put these strange design front forks on? They've all been tried and non seem to work, as well as modern day, sophisticated telescopic front forks. If you're a BMW R rider, who likes strange front forks, ask yourself why the fastest and best handling Beemer, the S1000 series has telescopic forks. Stick to the cars Aston Martin, because Bikes are clearly a World you don't understand.
No fairing to stop wind smashing you above 70mph is a mistake for rider fun, well done on the power and weight, the front splitter looks aren't great, but thats my opinion. I would like to track test it, there are prettier bikes for a lot less $£ MV Agusta, Ducati 996 of old and Panigali V4 sp of late. These will most likely just end up as sculptures in the garages of wealthy car enthusiasts that like bikes.

No windshield, that's gonna cause quite a bit of resistance and drag. I wouldn't want to be on that at any great speed. Try lifting your head above the windshield on a sports bike at 170mph it almost snaps your neck.
Its a fantastic looking bike, but all these track only vehicles are becoming a bit silly with the amount of money they cost and as they aren't road legal I've never seen the point of them myself .You can buy a load of good bikes and cars that you can have fun on a race tracks and still drive them home afterwards .
Well I can assure you a Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Ducati will run circles around this and will actually last forever. This will get you 2k miles before it breaks down

Using all those special metal alloys, 3D printed parts and a cool design. Then slap a cheap crappy iPhone on it as a dash?! Why not team up with a good watchmaker or something like that instead. Make that part a work of art.
With modern bikes there's a unique opportunity to keep it very analogue and thereby timeless. I don't think AM wanted to lose out on that by slapping on a contemporary display that will be outdated in a couple of years.

Long as you got something between you and the air but yea aero helps at those speeds but honestly I don’t notice it to much on my GSXS-1000 till I hit like 140mph then it’s a factor when trying to go faster! Start beating you up basically! But I don’t ride that fast very often but I had to take her up to speed once just to see what it had and it just keeps pulling long after you have about shit yourself! 😳

I know that only a fool would spend €108,000 on a bike that you can't ride on the road and is very likely to be unrideable. And I know that it is very likely to be nearly unrideable because turbocharged bike engines have always been extremely difficult to make work, even when you have the resources of factories like Suzuki Honda and Kawasaki.
The whole thing is the typical sort of puff piece I would expect of a company that claims to be the original Brough Superior when, in fact, all it did was buy the name.
I've been riding bikes for 40 years and I have seen plenty of bikes like this from Moto Scyz to Hesketh, Laverda and MZ, Morbidelli and others, and they've all been rubbish. Adding a swish car name does nothing to dismiss that possibility.
I agree, even a Ducati Panigale V4, which is spectacular, would be a third of the price of this. Doesn’t even look like you could fit a windscreen.

I am an enthusiastic Aston driver and still love to drive them every day after so many years. Whenever I am stunned by Aston's new inventions, I always pray that they don't drown themselves in beauty by designing hardly marketable art.
James, as an enthusiastic rider I do have some questions regarding this bike that hopefully will get answered.
1. As it's a track-only bike, what's the exhaust noise Decibel rating as in the UK, the vast majority of popular tracks have some form of limit (Usually 103db, some up to 108).
2. Are those brake discs shown the final production discs or just show discs? Track bikes usually have at least drilled discs to aid in cooling.
3. Is there enough space between the rear hugger and rear tyre to be able to fit tyre warmers? The video makes the gap seem incredibly small.
4. Are those bar ends removable to allow fitment of lever guards as at a minimum, a front brake lever guard is mandated across all UK track days these days.
I think the bike was designed to be standing in a garage 😪

Just to add a spot of context, ;-) 30 years ago, my Laverda 650 Formula has the fuel tank mounted in the middle section of the frame, as mentioned, to lower the COG, you are actually sat on the tank just under the seat, the battery is just above the pivot point of the swing arm, again, lowers the COG…The conventional space for the tank, is just a cover for the ram air and air box, along with the throttle bodies for the fuel injection…The Laverda has a modest angle for the steering, coupled with a short wheelbase for its class and a frame designed by F1 engineer Nico Bakker, means the handling is exceptional, stable, precise, helped by WP suspension, and Brembo Goldline brakes, also fitted to the more track focused Ducati 916 variants…
The Aston/Brough bike is a stunning piece of engineering, and will probably just end up in a collection to be stared at, I’d be to scared to track it, though probably not a worry if you can afford one in the first place…

As a bike person this I feel only is good to look at. It fails as a bike to be ridden in so many ways. No wind deflection for the rider. Fuel tank shouldn't be at the rear as weight will be constantly changing on the rear suspension which you don't want. The front suspension with no forks would be another thing I'd worry about. As for a track bike you sure wouldn't want to drop this as I'd say even a small drop would cost a heap if not a write off on it.
I'd find this to be a very unpractical bike. They should stick to cars as this thing is only a show piece for the rich.
You could buy 2 Aston Martin vantage from 2009 for the price of this bike that isn’t even road legal.
You can also buy like 20 used Honda civics but thats not the point is it?
@@mitchellsteindler the point is it’s overpriced junk built by a motorcycle company who hasn’t made bikes since the 20s so not a single hand that actually touched one of those original bikes in production built this bike, and a car company who doesn’t build motorcycles. Marketing ploy to help bring relevance to a bike that wouldn’t sell for more than 20k without the help of Aston badging, even then shouldn’t even be close to that price.
So basically it’s two companies who have never built a motorcycle trying to market towards people who probably don’t and never will ride motorcycles.

It looks like an beautiful art piece, but I'm not convinced it'll actually ride around a track well -- especially being a track only bike.
It's long, and doesn't use telescopic forks. The front linkage appears to only have pre-load adjustment. The use of a front linkage will change trail braking, as the primary benefit of using this over forks is that you separate steering, braking and suspension functions. However, one of the benefits of forks on track is that you can shorten the wheelbase of your motorcycle by compressing the forks under heavy braking -- allowing you to turn in faster. You don't see front linkage much on superbikes because of this (and cost/weight), but it is present on bikes like the BMW GS and other touring type motorcycles, as the separation of braking and suspension is desired. Note that Vyrus, a small Italian company that makes exotic sport bikes, makes a few motorcycles that use hub-centered steering and have a linkage. Additionally, there appears to be no wind protection to help riders down long straights and the long wheel base will slow turn in on corner entry.
Most track going superbikes will have a titanium exhaust, which essentially renders the inconel exhaust irrelevant. Perhaps this is necessary because the Brough Superior motor is turbocharged it requires the higher temperature rating. It is a bit disappointing that it makes 180HP, when the naturally aspirated superbikes make 200+ in track trim.
I can't help but feel that this bike is designed to be sat in the garage or on display, and hasn't taken into account what a rider would need at the track. It's a car person's take on what they believe a motorcycle should be. A 1:1 power to weight is something that sounds impressive in the context of cars, but essentially the whole modern crop of superbikes have this and at a fraction of the cost. For me, it appears to be too much form and not enough function -- but we won't know until there is a direct comparison between this bike what manufacturers like BMW or Ducati put out in the "ultra-premium" section.
Agreed on all counts. I was about to make some of the same points, but you nailed it. I ride super sport myself and while this bike is a beautiful thing, it would make better sense to put a headlight and street tires on it. Those brakes are not track ready either. I actually doubt if they're any good on spirited street riding. Perhaps this would make a good drag bike, but even then, the windscreen would need to be higher.

I’ve been an avid bike enthusiast since 1958 and I still ride today. I’ve had many bikes over he years including some interesting ones such as a Munch TTSE 1200. Much as I love many of
Aston Martin’s previous car designs, it pains me to say I’m not a fan of your new motorcycle, the collaboration with Brough Superior. Other famous marques have done similar things and generally I am not a fan of theirs either. Ferrari, Maserati spring to mind. I’m not sure what it is, but they all seem to produce bikes with a similar theme, over designed, try hards. This particular motorcycle looks like nothing I’d want to pilot at speed. The lack of a faring or screen that may benefit the rider, plus the lack of any place to grip your knees of behind. The front suspension looked interesting, though appeared very similar to the new Brough Superior based in France. Also, the attempt at linking their history with the original company rings hollow. The two companies bare no relationship to one another, save for the name. Yes the new product tried to follow some of George Brough’s ideas, but other than that, there is no historical link between the two companies. This must be viewed as nothing more than a cheap attempt to cash in on a famous old motorcycle marque that has been extinct for many years. It seems to me that car makers are more often than not, better off sticking to cars. Motorcycle design and manufacture would seem to be more acceptable when undertaken by motorcycle people.
Great content and insight into a marque of beauty, hopefully the project will evolve to a road bike and eventually seeing the Aston Martin/Brough Superior name in bike racing with one of their products.

Is a piece of art. And the owners will have other bikes to actually ride.

Initially, I was searching for brake fluid reservoir. But when you pointed out, it really blown my mind. All OEMs should take notes on this type of reservoir arrangement.

I agree. Personally I hate the urine sample cans that awkwardly hang on top of the bars.
The reason they are positioned that way is that the reservoir needs to be the highest point for either the clutch or the brake system. What they've done here is form over function.
@@saltyprocrastinator Yeah I know positioning like this wouldn't work on most street bikes because of that. Pretty much only race bikes and cafe racers that have stupid low clip-ons could have the reservoirs like this.

The tank does not move from side to side and slosh the fuel about! the tyres move around under the centre of gravity it’s a common misunderstanding they have tried to fit the fuel tank low down and found it doesn’t work in race bike …. Slow moving heavy tourers benefit from a low centre of gravity

Carbon fiber is carbon fiber, flexing on its "grade" is just too much.
That's no where near accurate . There's a massive difference between the Chinese carbon fiber components you'd buy on eBay and the carbon fiber used here. Try googling carbon fiber and you'll see there is a bunch of different grades. There's different manufacturing processes, different weaves, and many other factors that can make the final products vary substantially. This is a 100k motorcycle. The entire point is to flex on it's design and the quality of the materials used.
I know right?! Steel is steel. All these construction companies charging exorbitant prices, just use the cheap steel for the bridge cables and I beams. It's all the same....
Aston should have really put this into full production for 40k-50k. They'd sell a ton!

I DON'T LIKE THIS NO FUNCTIONAL BIKE, Doesn't has a windshield, nor proper gauges, those tires won't work for everyday use, the amount of power for such a lightweight fragile bike will kill you on the first long run. I think this is a piece of art to display in a showroom, is not a bike to ride
Why do people who actually know little about bikes, still put these strange design front forks on? They've all been tried and non seem to work, as well as modern day, sophisticated telescopic front forks. If you're a BMW R rider, who likes strange front forks, ask yourself why the fastest and best handling Beemer, the S1000 series has telescopic forks. Stick to the cars Aston Martin, because Bikes are clearly a World you don't understand.
No fairing to stop wind smashing you above 70mph is a mistake for rider fun, well done on the power and weight, the front splitter looks aren't great, but thats my opinion.
I would like to track test it, there are prettier bikes for a lot less $£ MV Agusta, Ducati 996 of old and Panigali V4 sp of late.
These will most likely just end up as sculptures in the garages of wealthy car enthusiasts that like bikes.

No windshield, that's gonna cause quite a bit of resistance and drag. I wouldn't want to be on that at any great speed. Try lifting your head above the windshield on a sports bike at 170mph it almost snaps your neck.
Its a fantastic looking bike, but all these track only vehicles are becoming a bit silly with the amount of money they cost and as they aren't road legal I've never seen the point of them myself .You can buy a load of good bikes and cars that you can have fun on a race tracks and still drive them home afterwards .
