I think of it as intervals relative to root. So you covered R+5 and R-2. Also, I superimpose all pentatonic shapes in one position, that gives a lot of new colors.
surprised you didn't mention CMaj7. Anyway, years ago I asked my teacher how to play more jazz like lines. He only knew to play the A blues over the CMaj7. It worked but I thought there has to be more to it than that. I spent decades chasing that "more". LOL.
