Damn it, man. Santana and Lincecum were my 2 favorite players growing up. Both dominant pitchers who likely won't make the hof and could possibly be forgotten. Much sad
I'll never forget Johan. I'm an Angels fan my whole life but Johan is my favorite pitcher of all time. Hes the reason I wanted to pitch. Hes the best pitcher I've ever seen and had the nastiest change up of all time...I don't care what anyone says lol.
2 time Cy Young winners should be a lock, but the MLB hall of fame is really hard to get into. You’d think Lincecums 3 rings would help too.
@@trevorfranklin310 He didn't have the numbers for it due to falling right off after 2011 as a All Star pitcher. Granted saying Santana and Lincecum will be forgotten is a hell of a stretch.
@Christopher Palmer Hell look at Fernando Venezuela, the guy's peak ended due to arm troubles as a result of using his screwballs and will never see the light of the HOF without a ticket but people still remember his career fondly. His name still gets mentioned when it comes to Hispanic players often, people loved the guy.
Trevor Franklin Santana probably has a better case based on his peak being more sustained, but unfortunately I don’t think either make it. In a perfect world, they definitely both should but MLB HoF voters are notoriously picky.
What happen to Brian wilson
Last I heard he tried to pitch as a knuckleballer, but after that nothing.
couldnt throw the ball on the corners and kept throwing in the middle of the plate. His velocity dropped also and he wasnt as dominate as he was. Also helps when Buster Posey is your catcher.
What happened to him was actually typical of star closers since many of them flame out after few years. People used to speculate how Mariano Rivera was on a decline whenever he goes into a slump every freaking season since 2000.
Lost his fastball and swag. Never returned to his elite status. The giants burned that man into the ground. Guy was essentially throwing for them with a torn ulnar ligament smh
Alex Cruz sounds like how they did Tim
Johan Santana was never the same after that no hitter.
I thought so too. Pitching a complete game in my opinion blew out his arm. After pitching 7 innings I would always see his pitching arm always bandaged up with ice packs for the post-game press conferences. He'd always be talking to reporters while his arm is completely wrapped up with 4 or 5 ice packs which lead me to believe he was nursing an old injury preventing it from waking up again. I honestly think he knew damn well he was way over his minimum pitch count but said "Shit I can't risk messing my arm up, but I can't just walk away from my no-no.. F-it, I'll finish the game". Can you imagine he stays in the game, loses his no-no + plus ruins his arm? I'd be pissed if I were him if that happened.
Didn’t help that the start before the no hitter he also threw a complete game
I was there when Johan had his 17 stikeout game. Still one of my favorite moments as a Twins fan.
The hit column still says 0 at the end of that game so the history books still say it was a no hitter and a R.A. Dickey story would be interesting
think of the Armando Galaragga game, the history books say that was a one hitter, but it was really a perfect game. this is pretty much same, but in reverse. if DeGoat can stay healthy, he’ll probably pitch a real one.
I don't know about dark magic, but in my opinion, that man gave his career in exchange for giving us Met fans a moment we needed. A reason to celebrate. I'll never forget that day. Where I was when the game started all the way to going out and celebrating with other Mets fans that night. For that sacrifice he gave that day, probably knowing it would ruin his arm, I respect him for life.
I’m a big Twins fan, and Santana was my favorite player growing up. He’s the reason I throw my circle change now, couldn’t get over how nasty he developed that pitch.
Santana was damn near unhittable in a twins uniform
I thought Santana and Francisco Lirano was going to dominate the AL central like the Patriots dominate the AFC east
Let's not forget Joe Nathan, Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau and Torii Hunter.
... Man those mid 2000s Twins were stacked.
@@VACATETHE48 Had the Cy Young, MVP and batting champ all on the same team the same year and still couldn't make it past the first round of the playoffs/yankee curse:( The 2019 lineup was much deeper though.
@@VACATETHE48 Man don't remind me. I grew up watching those Twins and it's a tragedy we never saw a World Series. Don't forget Cuddyer too! Him plus the M&M boys and Torii were really a sight to behold, and with Gardenhire in his prime as a manager...man those were really some good days. Back when the Twins, Sox, and Tigers would kick, scratch, and claw for the top of the AL Central; the end of the season was always so exciting to watch.
The m&m boys to
@@JayTheHelmetGuy 06 they should have won it all. Injuries to Morneau and Liriano derailed it.
Not that that excuses ANY of their other sustained playoff ineptitude.
What’s with the random Byron Buxton highlight at 6:13? (Don’t get me wrong, it was an awesome double play.)
Johan Santana has been my favorite pitcher since his first Cy Young season. Not many pitchers dominate so much with their changeup
Still got my Santana Twins jersey. He was amazing to watch. Sad you didn't mention his 17 strikeouts in 8 innings against the rangers.
I thoughtvit was the cubs because i remember sammy sosa was on the team. I vividly remember watching that, besidesvthe fact i thought it was the cubs lol
What happened to Jake Peavy or Garrett Atkins
BlitzTaifun / DragonScales jake peavy just straight up retired after playing in San Fran
@@icewallowcome4387 He was winding down before that due to injuries.
And won a world series
Or Garett Anderson
Prince Fielder has to be the next installment.
Joel Nelson had a neck injury and had to retire
He ends up with the same home run total as his dad.
Joel Nelson HGH
Good guess
I loved watching Santana, his change up was unbelievable. Thanks for posting.
The Mets injury curse, Jed Lowrie would’ve been playing by now if he was still with the A’s!!!!!!!
Catalyst V7 kinda just the mets curse now
I mean... 22mill just to sit on his ass? The A's can take him back!
Thank you for making this, this guy sorta just disappeared from my childhood and I never knew what happened
Great Channel...I always wondered what happened to great players that were Hall Of Fame caliber players. I always liked Dale Murphy he was an All Star but he just fell off the baseball radar.
Mystery Man Murphy was a victim of the steroid era. His numbers looked puny after that. Nobody who watched Murphy in the 80s didn’t think he’d make the Hall. Same with Dawson and Sandberg, though they both eventually made it.
How could there be not much footage of Johan Santana when he was on the twins? I actually remember when he pitched for them. I know UA-cam wasn't as big at the time, but there has to be more highlights of him on the twins because that was where he was really good. I also remember in 2006 when my Oakland A's were able to sweep the twins in ALDS although Unfortunately they got swept by the Tigers in the ALCS dammit.
The only footage needed was when he K'd my Rangers into oblivion
he should of definitely won the cy young in 2005 too, but they were still obsessed with wins & losses back then
2 CY's , lifetime 3.20 ERA and 100+ wins seems a lot better than some of the relievers and non-dominant pitchers getting into the HOF.
Look at Sandy Koufax. He also pitched 12 seasons and was dominant late in his career being domintant in a 5 year span. You could definitely make the case for Johan because for a 5-6 year span he was dominant and won 2 Cy-Youngs while doing it in the American League.
What happened to Jermaine Dye?
Johan was the funnest pitcher to watch ever as a twins fan.
Matt do Jarred Weaver
He got old
A little bit too much random facts similar to the fact being brought up but otherwise a really great video detailing one of my childhood favorites. Also maybe incorporate a small visual aid(like a picture or something) when comparing one great season to the amazing of another pitcher. I really like this video series and just wanted to put some feedback in, I hope to see plenty more videos of this kind.
Enjoyed watching him pitch. He was dominant when he was healthy. Mets ruin yet another player.
Tbf it was Johan’s fault by everyone’s admission including his own. Terry Collins and Dan Warthen wanted to pull him and told Johan he could be putting the rest of his career at risk and he just said “you’re not pulling me from this game until I say you can pull me”
Great series!
"Replay wasn't available" replay wouldn't have mattered because fair/foul isn't repayable.
Love these vids man! Keep it up👍
Do Dontrelle Willis!!
Yea I learned a circle change up by copying Johan's grip for it. Worked great for me in high school before I got hurt and gave up.
Mark Texieria , Alfonso Soriano, Matt holliday, AGon, Carl Crawford, Alex Rios, Jake Peavy, Grady Sizemore, Travis Hafner, Fausto Carmona, Jason Bay, Shawn Green, Daniel Bard, Joe Crede, Carlos Quienten.
Cliff Lee, Michael Young, Edison Volquez, CJ Wilson, AJ Burnett, Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlin, Armando Galaraga.
Tf half the players here had successful careers lol

What happened to Nomar Garciaparra?
pinkkfloydd the Red Sox ended their World Series drought after he retired. Done.
pinkkfloydd he couldn’t get off the DL
@@EdwardRodriguez26 What? They traded him to Chicago at the 2004 deadline. He played w the Cubs for a few years, then to LA. Way to have the facts...
@@EdwardRodriguez26 I wish since they would have been short couple of titles.
Seriously get your facts straight.
pinkkfloydd Bulked up too much. Steroids? You make the call.
WHAT HAPPENED TO JUBALDO JIMENEZ??
heard about the dude non stop for a couple years as a kid and then NOTHING!
iirc in 2010 he was 15-1 with a sub 2 era before the all star break and he's sucked hard ever since.
Had fun in the stream yesterday!
Johan as a Twin was MUST SEE TV. Moreso than any pitcher ive seen in my 24 years of life
what happened to joel zumaya super hyped reliever that had all kinds of problems during his career if i remember correctly with Detroit.
It may be a bit early, but Felix Hernandez. Amazing how an ace fell hard.
What happened to Hernandez? He put a ton of miles on his arm and eventually got old. Dude is still a legend though.
Looking like chris sale might be headed that way...
Gladius yeah it’s just he went from north to south his decline was a big turn like a V turn instead a U turn
What happened to Allen Craig?
What happened to Ryan Howard?
What happened to Chris Davis?
What happened to Jacoby Ellsbury?
What happened to Corey Hart?
What happened to Greg Holland?
What happened to James Shields?
What happened to Billy Butler?
Ellsbury started to fizzle out when he went to the Yankees. I think he was only 33 in his final season.
Grady Sizemore next??
or Tom
Hit hard by lot of injuries nonstop. What a shame I remember he had that breakout season and then the injury bug hit him.
Injuries
This guy and Ichiro were my two favorite players that werent Rangers players. Absolute animals.
Who remembers Magglio Ordóñez? Another beast
I watched his no hitter live on air when I was younger. It was electric in my house.
Brandon Webb!!!!! Also, why it took Randy Johnson forever to become the scariest lefty of all time. Hitters, I'm thinking a video on Bo Jackson (we know what happened to him, but he is still freaking awesome) or Jason Bay. I'm also wondering about Smoky Joe Wood and Ian Kennedy. Wood had that insane 1912 year and Kennedy was virtually unhittable in 2011. An analysis of mechanics would be sweet. Sorry, I just puked all my ideas out. This is a cool channel
Brandon Webb had shoulder surgery and was never the same pitcher. Could never regain his form when he had that breakout season when he won 20. Randy Johnson took so long because it took a while for him to understand the strike zone and to learn to mix and control more his devastating and explosive stuff.
While that ball may not have been foul, there was a different game (I don’t remember the specifics) in which there was a clear error (on David Wright I think) which was ruled a hit for the only hit of the game
So with robot umps, the Mets still have a no hitter
Maybe John Maine.
Keep these coming my dude
Dontrelle Willis?
Carl Crawford?
The great Ubaldo Jimenez?
Yeah, whatever happened to Ubaldo?
My fav pitcher of all time!!
Best game I ever saw live was in 2009. Santana was pitching and pitched a complete game 3 hitter. Best game I ever saw a Mets pitcher pitch was him the second to last day of the season in 2008 ON A TORN ACL IN HIS PUSHOFF LEG.
I still remember watching him and Liriano with the Twins. That was a helluva 1-2 punch they had
Do grady sizemore and jordan zimmerman
Dude Jordan zimmermann was never good.
Jordan zimmerman was unstoppable for a good few years
Gregory Caban ummm no. I live in dc he wasn’t that good
Those last 3 videos were dopeeeeee.!
We gotta see Bobby Abreu, Dontrelle Willis, Jason Bay, Carlos Lee, Grady Sizemore AND MOST IMPORTANTLY. TADIHITO IGUCHI!!!!
People always say the no-hitter ruined his career and I just don't buy that. Yes, his next two starts were subpar, but after that he was great again, giving up just a total of two runs in three starts of at least six innings each. It was what happened on July 6th that I consider to have killed his career: after four innings of two-run ball, the fifth inning opened with Reed Johnson running over Santana's ankle when Santana went to cover first on Johnson's single. Santana stayed in the game but gave up five more runs in the inning before being yanked, and he never pitched effectively again.
Videos ideas
Miguel Tejada
Jd drew
Chris young
Carl Crawford’s
Bj upton
Vernon Wells
Barry Zito
Chris Carpenter
Bronson Arroyo
Carl Crawford would be good
Now this is a decent list of short prime window guys.
idk why Carpenter would be a video. He had a pretty good career with STL even though he was injured for about 1/3 of it.
Bj upton
Well you see it all went wrong for Miguel Tejada because he was actually 35 when he entered the league.
I was in high-school when a friend of mine told me he had a few free Mets tickets so me and my buddies go to the game after school. It ended up being this no hitter I remember all of them wanting to leave after the 7th when I told them they can all leave I wasn't moving. They all ended up staying and told me they were so happy they did
Love this series
The Wilpons ARE the dark magic behind the Mets' injury curse.
Here's how it happens: player gets injured. Wilpons pressure him into playing through the injury. Player plays poorly for a little while, until he finally goes on the DL. Wilpons try to rush player back. Player exacerbates injury. Eventually, he's shut down for the season. When he returns, he's never the same.
The latest iteration of this is Brandon Nimmo. Before him, Yoenis Cespedes was fully in this pattern, until he threw a wrench in the gear by totally not falling off a horse, I swear. This pattern has been firmly established since at least Ryan Church (the first time I noticed this phenomenon) and likely before that.
You’re right. Pedro Martinez wrote in his book how Jeff Wilpon made him pitch through an elbow injury after they said they were going to shut him down.
@@StarkRavingSports This is how they break their players. It's only a matter of time before they do it to McNeil and Alonso.
If you think Mets haven't had a no-hitter becus Johan Santana of the Beltran fair call then would you say they HAVE thrown a no-hitter if the next night R.A. Dickey pitched a no-hitter that was counted as a 1-hitter because of umps calling an error by David Wright as a hit? Technically Mets HAVE a no-hitter the next night but an error was called a hit? So what then? Just cause it's not officalized by the game would you still say that that counts as their no-hitter? Because with that logic it should apply the same way in reverse right?
Yes make this a series
What happened to the second half of the rangers season
Some others to consider:
Ryan Howard
Jacoby Ellsbury
Dontrelle Willis
Jason Bay
Derrek Lee
Miguel Tejada
Andrew McCutchen
Daisuke Matsuzaka
Ryan Mahoney Cutch might still be good
Ryan Mahoney Jason bay signed with the Mets
Jacoby Ellsbury is interred at the Tomb of the Unknown Yankee, along with that other heap of worthlessness, Carl Pavano.
You should really do a video on Slade Heathcott, or at least mention him in some video. His story is really sad and he deserves some spotlight. He could've had an amazing MLB career, playing very well in his 20 to 30 or so at bats with the Yankees. I remember watching his debut as a kid and i thought he was gonna be a great, but personal issues got in his way. You should really look up his story.
Jacoby Ellsbury is a big question mark? SRS", get him on your great channel and Jed Lowrie too???
I was talking this morning about whatever happened to Jacoby ellsbury. Injury after injury I think he's on the verge of retiring.
Sadly no one will remember this great pitcher
You neglected to mention the severity of shoulder capsule surgery and the chances of coming back at all, never mind be as effective as he was leading from his 2012 opening day return to his June 1, 2012 no-hitter. You also didn’t mention that in spring training 2013 he re-tore that same left shoulder capsule.
Johan Santana still is my favorite pitcher of all time. I use to look up to this guy when I was playing baseball. I still have his Mets jersey and kept it in mint condition! This man was a problem! I will always remember him for throwing that no hitter!
I have an Idea How about Big Met free Agent signings that went bust ie Bobby boniila, json bay, Cespedes. etc
He pitched well the next handful of starts after the no hitter.
What happened to Eric Chavez, bobby Crosby, Brad Hawpe, Corey Patterson
2:55 - Roy Halladay was a world ahead of everyone else when he suffered his broken leg that year. He might have won MVP.
I don't know why, but I lol'd when he said he drove by the stadium
I visited Alcatraz in June of 2017 with my family and I’m not making this up, Santana and his family were on our boat & visited the island the same day.
would have been weird if he was on the boat and NOT visiting Alcatraz
@@dgiggity7276 You're not wrong
Make one of Juan Igor Gonzales outfielder from PR
Igor was hit hard by the injury bug sadly. If not for those injuries he could easily have hit more than 500 career homers.
You are so right
perhaps that call down the line sealed the fate, the books say no hitter, but he was never the same again. baseball is weird that way.
Ryan Howard
Cliff Lee
Joba Chamberlain
Kei Igawa
Chien Ming Wang
ForgottenSpace joba? He wasn’t that good to begin with. The others were good.
Most of them were due to injuries.
@M Gene Kei wasn't that good however and the Yankees shouldn't have bothered to go after him. I mean even his epic relief against the Red Sox in 2007 doesn't make up for that signing.
For Joba, messing up his schedule in the second half of 2009 for the sake of the inning limit can ruin any pitchers. Granted Joba would have wasted his promise eventually due to his weight and alcoholism but still, how the guy was handled didn't help.
M Gene Joba was lights out as a middle reliever. Kei Igawa sucked.
Do what happened to Jered Weaver.
The only thing keeping him from a Cy Young in 2005 was voters stuck in the stone age. He was the best pitcher in the AL by any metric that actually values performance instead of wins
What happened to Adrian gonzalez
Nothing. He had a good prime and a decent 30s, like lots of players. He declined and retired.
He didnt actually retire yet, hes a free agent and hasnt been signed yet
