The Song is about a father on how he remembers his son who was a Soldier - SSG Jared Monti (13F Forward Observer) who was killed in action while trying to save a fellow wounded soldier (3 times) during an attack in Afghanistan. For his actions he was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2009.
@@lawou8989 The story is about the father and son but they asked him not to make it about a father and a son because it was just too painful. So they worded it about a brother missing his brother and if you listen to it you will hear him talking to his mother and she asked him did you go by your brother's grave and then close to the end of the video he says brother I drive your truck.
I lost my brother 13 years ago and yes I still drive his truck ! I keep it up and for most of the year my jag sits in the garage cuz I’m bouncing around in an old ford truck. I don’t think he minds.
Melissa Kardos I lost my little brother to drugs and I got his truck. So I completely understand how you feel! This is one of those songs I gotta listen to alone cuz I straight up ugly cry! I’m sorry for your loss!
@Christi Hinson I'm not going to say anything about you wishing him dead. I think I know what you meant, but how you said it was harsh. Brother Hinson, keep your head down, lol!
This song is about a dad who lost his son, Jared Monti, KIA (2006) in Afghanistan. He served in 3/71 CAV, 10th Mountain Division and who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for making 3 attempts to save one of his soldiers during an attack of their observation post, being killed by an RPG on the third attempt. His dad's coping mechanism is the basis of this song. Climb to Glory!
The songs actually about his brother dying!!!! “Momma asked me this morning if I’ve been by your grave, but that flag and stone ain’t where I feel you anyway” and also at the end he says “yeah sometimes brother I drive your truck”. The family is his brothers at the end!
It was deep. Took me a while to realize it. Grandpa was my hero in every sense of the word. It hurt to let him go. But I knew he’d be up with grandma, mom, & dad. It hurt hearing his daughter telling him to let go. Let go and go meet grandma & dad. But that line about I’m not feeling him at his grave. His soul, his peace was at home.
Hi Billy, I'm not sure if you're planning on doing videos on the 4th like you did on Memorial Day, but if you are and youre planning on doing patriotic songs, there's a couple I would like to see you react to - "They Were There" by Granger Smith, "Old Glory" by Jerrod Niemann, and "Til the Last Shots Fired" by Trace Adkins Thank you for your service
Lee heard a story about a military father who lost his son on the radio one day driving. He said he had to pull over the story got to him so much. He was in contact with the father about making the song. The person in the video (that drives the truck, etc) is Lee's actual brother, Lewis. So he made it even more personal by featuring his actual family. If I'm not mistaken, the money for the song went towards Veterans as well.
This song got me when I first heard it! I lost a brother during his 6th deployment. I have two other brothers that served. My oldest brother just retired after 26 years in the Army and our other brother is a Marine, currently on his 2nd deployment. Our first deployment since we lost our brother.. it’s been rough!
In the song, the lyric says: Momma asked me if I'd been by your grave.. The song was inspired when he heard about a father that drove his son's dodge truck, after the son had been killed on duty.
Man this song was what helped me get threw the death of my grandfather. We used to just ride around in his truck all the time when I was young. So it always reminded me of him
People arguing about this song.... A. Lee Brice didn't write the song. Google it. B. In the video it does portray a brother who loses his brother. C. Co-writer Connie Harrington was inspired to write it after hearing an interview on Here and Now with a father, Paul Monti, whose son, Medal of Honor recipient Jared, was killed in Afghanistan while trying to save a fellow soldier. In the interview, he states that he drives the truck to feel close to his son.
This song is a song I cry to every time I hear it. I lost my brother in the war in 09. I've had to have my hubby not play it sometimes because I get so emotional.
It’s been 10 years, but I still can’t listen to this song without crying. I lost my little brother to suicide four months before he left for basic. I hit a deer in my car shortly after he passed and drove his truck right around the time this song came out. RIP Scotty. 💚
The literal last line is "brother sometimes, I drive your truck." Anyone that says it's a father singing about his son is denser than a block of tungsten and should get their hearing and/or reading skills checked.
My dad died last month and left me his blazer it’s not in the best condition but to me it’s the best vehicle in the world and even after it’s worn out when I’m old enough to drive it I will restore it fully and keep driving it probably till the day I die..
This song was actually written for a mother and father that had lost their son. They drove his truck to soothe their grief. Lee Brice delivers the emotion intended, in this song. The video depicts him losing his brother. The emotion is so felt.
The first few times I heard this song, I could not stand this song mainly because I didn't get the message behind it. It took me a while to really understand it, even though I'm not quite sure I get the entire message behind this song, but I get the jist of it now
#RightInTheFeels; This song brings me to tears Every Single Time [for 2 reasons]! 1) It came out/debuted around the time of my great-grandfather's passing. 2) I already know that it will be describing me (with a few different details) when my grandfather eventually passes away, because he was also in the Army {stationed in Germany during Vietnam} and we have been extremely close my entire life..
Thanks, Billy! Honestly, when I miss my sister like that, I watch you react to songs like this about someone you love who died. I don't feel as alone. Patsy, my sister, died 20 years ago. Most of the time it's okay, but I still have days when I need to get it out. I appreciate you!
This is one of the few songs that my husband admits to crying to when he hears it. Never tried listening to it because if it makes him cry, then I would definitely sob. Welp, I was right.
Semper Fi Brother USMC Vet. Sometimes letting the emotions out of those weve lost is easier said than done. I know there are days I just have to go drive way over the speed limit and scream at them even though they arent here just to let it out.
This was a story about a father who lost his son overseas. He was engaged to one of my best friends. He was so unselfish and died while rescuing other soldiers. Although it was about a father/son relationship he nailed the emotional roller coaster we went with for her. Jared Monti died in the line of duty. He was amazing!! Nate Labonte dude he even says his brother in the song. But okay
Elizangela ridgell but the true story has to do with the dad driving his sons truck
Elizangela ridgell basically two stories that are telling the same story but with a different family member

The truth behind this story is actually a father mourning his son when Lee Brice heard about that he asked for permission to do a song about it.
I drive my dad's truck everyday. It's almost completely unchanged, he's been gone for going on 3 years and I still can't bring myself to change it.
