That Madara has me swooning!! Your Artus in the Sonder yarns will be so pretty, and squishy and lovely. The Lichen and Lace is very rustic indeed.

I love the shawl! But, mostly I loved watching you spin while listening to you chat. So calming to me. Do you think you’d be available to come over right before my bedtime and spin while you tell me a story?

Love using their sock yarn and about to start 4th hat for family members in their choice of colors. Interesting that some yarns may result in leaning stitches and would love to learn more about it. Put pattern for Shawl by max as may offer that as an option for one son instead of a hat. Love how your's turned out.

I am a tight knitter and I usually always have a full skein plus some left than sweaters call for. Your shawl is gorgeous. Girl, you've turned into a shawl girlie! I love it. I didn't hear what fiber it is you were spinning that is sticking? So glad your dad is on the mend.

Hi Kaci! Thanks for showing me a bit how you spin from a braid! I’m learning myself how to spin and I’ve been splitting my fiber so far, to make it easier to manage. But how you did it, looks really interesting! Must try it sometime. Any other tips for a newbie? ❤

I love the colors in the shawl you finished, and the Noro brown yarn- SO pretty! I used Noro yarns several years ago and it did have a scatchiness to it, so nice that they are producing something more soft.

LisaR :Hi Kaci :) You're right the blend of different fibers esp. when silk is one, can cause drafting challenges. Two things you might like to try next time that I find helpful.1) predraft . By doing this , you'll get more control over the final
Drafting on the wheel .The differences in fiber length show up more if the fiber is just minimally blended , causing a lot of slipping past each other rather than going through the drafting together. Results in the uneven spots ,and less than fun spin. If the fibers been blended and then dyed , it usually can be blended well -better drafting . It's a style the dyer chooses to get a particular look . You can get the. Fiber blend to cooperate by predrafting and 2) Try
Spinning from the fold . You ll break off a piece of the roving fingers width longer than than the longest fiber . Then fold over your finger , while gently holding in place . Fibers will be drafted from the top or tip or your finger . You tube has a lot of really good videos to get a look at how :) It's very relaxing and feels similar to spinning from a rolag. You can still compress the yarn in front to smooth and remove air if you want a. Worsted yarn, but this technique will make your yarn have some air., but you can counteract a good deal by still using the pinching finger in front of draft to smooth and slightly compress as the yarn runs in. Hope this helps . Try the predraft first . Your projects are SUCH
    beauties !

Great info! I did pre draft but it still wasn’t the easier to work with. At some point I might try spinning from the fold

If you are all about the wild you will love Knit Collage! I just finished the Kaleidoscope sweater and it is spectacular! A total color explosion.
Also, I just received my Lichen and Lace Artus bundle. It is definitely rustic but I love that and don't find it scratchy. The colors are gorgeous but the best part is it smells like sheep (that is how rustic it is).
Looking forward to seeing your progress on both!

Interesting about your Noro Madara. I bought it about a year ago and made a Noro pattern with it (Sia sweater), and it is incredibly scratchy and not soft at all! It is a seamed sweater and that makes a stiffer sweater, but man it's hard to wear. Glad yours seems better.

I wasn't impressed by the plump it up shawl, but after seeing your version and that cut fluff yarn, I might have to put it on my list ;). Also, that Noro yarn is absolutely stunning ! I'm going to have to see what patterns would be cute with it.

How do you guys afford the yarn for some of these projects...like serious question. Is there a place to find cheaper yarn? Would love to knit the plump it up shawl but that's $120 bucks 😬

I’ve heard you talk about being a loose knitter before. So am I. I’m just curious why on things like your shawl you don’t just go down a needle size? Not going to suggest swatching for a shawl, I don’t do that either, I just start with a smaller needle.

    • @YoungfolkKnits
      @YoungfolkKnits  6 місяців тому

I often don’t like a tight fabric. I prefer my fabric to have drape especially with shawls so I don’t mind it being looser ❤ but yes on lots of projects I need to go down a size 😅
