I'm surprised that Josh even had to mention that the knobs are made from knobwood because you'd have to be deaf to not immediately recognize the distinct character that it imparts to the signal. It's great that the knobs are raised and harvested organically, but what was the NAME of the knobwood tree that the Crimson tone knob was harvested from? And is there a bird on it? I am far from convinced (snnniiifff)!
i opened my browser in the moment you and all the other gear guys uploaded the reviews for these and it was just amazing to see all these videos come out at the same time like a wind of information blowing in my face. thank you for being such a huge information source for me and for many others, you, jhs, livingroom demos, and the many people that are continiously providing content are the reason i and many others are finding our own sound and developing a whole new generation of musicians that know their gear and understand sound much more than ever
I bought a Big Muff clone after watching a bunch of your videos and listening to players like Stu G and Dan Auerbach. I started to realize that a lot of classic sounds that I love were fuzz instead of overdrive or distortion. Also fuzz is surprisingly versatile depending on what kind of signal you cascade it into. So you converted one person. :)
Rhett, you are always an amazing guitarist, and yet when you hit that fuzz, you’re playing is even further elevated, more inspired and inspiring! Thank you!
I’m such a fan of yours, man. You have an exceptional ability to understand guitar tone and how to achieve it. It’s not an easy thing. So many guitar players really struggle to understand how to carve out their sound.
DEFINITELY, the best demo of these four pedals so far! I watched the Josh (JHS) and the Andy (from Reverb) videos and you can tell how important a player's touch is to tone and their personal dynamics effect the pedals. THANK YOU RHETT!
Well to start off I wanted to tell you Rhett that YOU have made me love and get into FUZZ. Before this video I wasn’t even considering it but I like your tone and the way Fuzz sounds on every video you have it in. Thanks. As for Josh from JHS. Outstanding series, you got something amazing here....to finish it off. I just got myself EHX Green Russian Big Muff Pi Fuzz. Awesome video too Rhett!
I used to think I didn’t like fuzz and would never use as a guitarist, but I think since watching the JHS Show and your show in the last two years my opinion has definitely changed having learnt much more from both channels, now I think I’m a fuzz addict, now I love my fuzz and have to stop myself using to frequently and using my other overdrives or distortions, but yep I definitely think I was missing out not using fuzz before as I find it really creative now, I think learning about the history more from Josh has really taught me much more about it and how and how to use it musically and not just thinking it was an over the top effect. Thanks to Josh and also yourself Rhett for providing me with much more knowledge and being able to making a much more informed decision. Thanks Steve
He hates Germanium Transistors a lot, they're difficult to find, they're not abailable, that's the reazon he tells the people "don't say germanium is better" getting silicon transistors is easy and it coast around $0.15 each. The Smiley(fuzzface) uses 2, the other Bender uses 3, but a set of three germanium transistors for that pedal may cost $30! So, when Josh says "don't buy it only because it uses germanium" he is hating the pedal makers that use germanium transistors because they sound great, everybody from 40 to 60 knows this perfectly.
Holy Christ that Intro song is awesome Rhett!!!! And even more awesome you are checking out JHS pedals I'm a big fan of Josh and his channel. And actually you and Josh has changed my mind and are about to start checking out Fuzz pedals again.

So stoked you mentioned the knob placement! I commented that on the JHS video and got torn a new one by the JHS community lol. But yeah, can't imagine one of these on my tight pedal board and actually be able to adjust settings mid gig.
The intro alone deserved its own thumbs up! And unsurprisingly, all four demos sounded ace too. But! The Bender with the Strymon Deco just stumped me, it's a *killer* tone. Cheers
Rhett I never really saw use for a fuzz pedal until I saw some of your videos. I really do like the JHS Bender and because of you I am getting one and trying it out!
It's been too long man! As someone who truly enjoys your musical intros....it's been too long. Thanks for the inspiration and as always, another great and informative vid. Looking forward to seeing you live. Keep it up, man.
I like Paul Gilbert's idea about fixing the issue of moving knobs or lost adjustments... he puts rubber o rings under the knob which gives resistance to being bumped around

Going to watch this post again, cause the jams were so sweet with Honey dripping FUZZ!!!!!!!
Great review, complementing the intro video from Josh and the Reverb one. Your video shows a much more musical side of these, as I'd use them. Especially as a fuzz avoided, it makes me want a Bender.
Josh already came out with his MkIII Tone Bender couple of times. First the right side of the pedal Bunrunner then his Firefly Fuzz. AFAIK. Great video by the way, thanks Rhett.
