You’ve got it Maya! Practice makes perfect. Most people take months to learn kick flips. Even ollies. Get comfortable riding around, learn to ollie, and then get used to flipping the board! Sliding your ollie foot at an angle. Lol So commendable trying this in front of bunch of people. 💜

That's because she was told to slide her back foot instead of kick down (pop). So she is inherently learning all the wrong tricks right now. If you want to learn a variable flip or hardflip or 360 flip or lazer flip or any trick that involves sliding the back foot out, then yes. Right now, completely wrong advice for her.
I would try again with non-platforms. the platform may not let your feet get good contact and feel for the board. vans are what i use. I learned an Ollie in a few hours a few years back, flat shoes for the win. you can def do it after some time!

43:00 this is almost the right position for it to happen, just move the backfoot a little bit more to the tail. Most skaters do this rubbing of the shoe to the griptape to feel it before doing the pop, then jump and kick simultaneously, catch the board after it flips and then land it. Absorb the landing by crouching a little as you ride away. Yeah.
random but it’s so rare to see skater boys actually try to teach specifically women to do what they do so props to you for actually trying to teach rather than being rude about it. people like you are actually so helpful to people who are scared to enter that space so thank you!!!
@@kettlecorn5000I appreciate this man, I teach kids to skate that's why. Like how to just ride all day so they get to be "one with the skateboard" lol and then better turning, going through bumps, ollies and eventually the kickflip. Once you have the confidence to rock all of it, you eventually start doing grinds and slides on ledges and then a legend is born. I'm kinda invested in Maya actually loving how to skate and making it at least a hobby of hers so she has something athletic to do and some kind of a work out routine that's also fun and enjoyable.
Incredible athlete. Watch the clip of her taking out Esfand with a pugle stick. She has not committed once in this whole vid. She is smart and knows what might happen if she actually jumps hard straight up while bringing both legs way up under her and then landing on an unstable wheeled board:) Best irl EVER Maya.

This is incredible... seeing the people saying that this is trick is difficult and learned over weeks but she is just trying and trying and not giving up. To me, 1:14:20 already has looked like a really good try But I've got no idea. I'm just longboarding a bit without any tricks and snowboarding with little jumps and switch but nothing crazy.
As a skater for over 15 years, kickflips are still hard. Much harder than variable or 360 flips. It takes serious control to commit a kickflip and to do it well especially off of shit.
Idk about skate boarding, but gots to feels with the board, one day for sure .

It'll be interesting if you put some solid practice in the other direction next time. And I admire your confidence, but damn, people can WEEKS to learn to kickflip, and that's after they've been skating and just consistently landing ollies first. But hey that confidence and stubbornness are probably why you were able to start Alveus, so GOOD FOR YOU! Keep that up, even if it hits you in the shins every once in a while, literally or figuratively.

Chat was pretty uncool and unsupportive this whole time, super lame. Skateboarding is hard, but its also supposed to be fun. I think she did an awesome job for not ever even riding the thing before, especially for dedicating so much time to the trick, respect.
Next time get a friend who can kickflip, there with their own board as well to teach you. If you can repetitivly watch people do it, and just try to mimic the motions of their body, if a good start. if you can get live feed back even better. I learned to 360 flip by watching TH game replays in slo mo.😅

Well it was ambitious. It is very hard to do a kick flip. It takes months to years.
Ok, on the (highly likely) off chance she doesn't get it in the remaining 2hrs...
Maybe get a finger board, to learn the theory on, and also have less risk to major injury?

From her first attempt I can already tell shes not gonna land it. Not in 2 hours, not in 2 days, not even in 2 weeks lol probably not even in 2 months unless you spend hours everyday learning to Ollie first.

i learned how to kickflip from flips teachings. thank flip for me...btw back foot is not angled correctly, its easier to do with an angled back foot, instead of having the back foot going horizontal across the board preventing you from rotating it.
its not easier with tight tracks cuz if u land with your toes for example or if you land on one side of the board it will lift the other side and it will flip and make your feet touch the ground :I me no speak enlish me no know how to explain

this is all bad but i appreciate the bravery. you should get comfortable with the ollie first and do it on grass so it's softer on your body.
good try, I skated through most of highschool and couldn't get kickflip to land. Some catch on super quick but it's a difficult trick for others.
IMO Flip was right you're not bending your knee's and jumping high enough. You were also scared to land on the board, which you shouldn't be your young padded up and your balance is good. The faster you kick off the board the less high you need to jump, learning to ollie while moving would help, gaining confidence kind of resting your legs rolling around between jumps would help too.

Ive been skating for 25 years, teaching for many years aswell. worst tip for kickflips ever XD but good tries though xD also that cheap protection can splinter into your knees and shit.
