@koyaanisqatsi316 8 tracks, at least where i live are either broken or being sold for double-triple the price of a 4 track, and at the end of the day, you can just bounce or record multiple instruments at once onto one track for most purposes.
I love the limitations of 4-track recording! I'm the proud owner of a 1989 Tascam PortaTwo in 100% mint condition because it sat in a Hollywood Studio on a shelf as a spare unused for decades. Luckily I was able to pick it up and it now lives in my studio! Good stuff Landon, new subsciber here!
one idea would be to record from the PC to the four track then take those recorded tracks on tape and bounce them to track four (say if your doing a 6 track multi recording).
Hi exelant video. I have a question. I have 2 d.a38 one the slave the other the master all set up. When I record do I put a tape in the master and one in the slave. I would really appreciate it if you could let me know thank you sincerely rod.
Hey! If you bounce the bottom 3 tracks to one, does it turn into mono? Id like to record stereo drums on for 2 tracks panned left and right, then bounce them into one and have room for more..does it work like that?
I'd do record digital then record that track only to tape,I use adobe audition 1.5 for my 4 track I use a 1979 Teac 144. Nothing special (all it would need is 3 connections to my PC's line out,Line in,and the mic using RCA extenders,RCA dual link and RCA to 3.5mm stereo mini jack cables).
What do you mean by "recording silence"? Do you just mean listening to the tape play while record is on? Thank you for the video by the way, it's very informative. I've never recorded with a four track cassette before. I can't imagine not being able to punch in and correct mistakes as I much rather prefer doing that than re-recording a full song in whole especially with the kind of music I make (black/death metal with complicated composition structures that are usually pretty lengthy)
Hi,im cant sync my acoustic drum, electric guitar and Bass with my DAW click track when i dump my tape recorded track back to my DAW,Can i use SMPTE using MOTU midi express xt or MOTU micro express to align my Acoustic Drum or Electric guitar time exactly like my DAW time signature or click?
Hey, great video! When you make a mistake and you record silence, does that mean that everything you did so far gets erased and you have to start over again? Sorry, I'm very new to this :)
Thanks! Yes, it’s like taking an eraser to a pencil drawing. I do it that way because it saves running time on the tape. You don’t have to record silence, but it helps reduce the “ghosting” effect from the previous recording.
yes but it wont sound great, unless you have some sort of multi FX that does amp simulation. The best way is to just buy a mic and record the speaker of your amp. An SM57 is the standard mic for that
"If you can't master the four-track, what makes you think you need more?" EXCELLENT advice.
Hi thank you sincerely brilliant. Rod
Its true, if you cant do a clean play thru you're stuck editing bs on a stupid computer

This video demonstrated recording tracks on 4 track MTRs along with techniques which are very helpful while recording. Great!
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
Thanks for taking tome out to do this excellent tutorial. Much appreciated 👍🏻
I’m surprised you don’t have a bunch of studio foam on the walls!! Great video too btw
Great video!
This chord pregression is like the new music Solar Power, by Lorde.

Thanks for watching! Yep, you need to have a tape in each machine.
Great video. Thank you.
Nice track man!

@@magicspiral3323 ahh okay, thank you!
Can I run a distortion pedal through my guitar and into the input jack? If not how do I do this? How did you set up your effects?

how do you then record the tape to Ableton or such daw. straight from mixer to audio interface and then record on single track in a daw?
@@Simplesimple123 I connect the tape outputs to an audio interface then track that to the DAW
@ excellent thanks for the reply and info ! Much appreciated
@ thank you for the reply . That’s helpful I appreciate it
What was the tiny little drum machine unit you had while recording. That looked seriously cool.
It’s the Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator. Fun drum machine.
How can I connect my amp? would I have to connect mic to machine and place mic on amp? same for natural drums?
Cantina yes. Microphones.
1:25 in and I'm already confused...I'm brand new to this shit. How and where do I start. I just wanna do some simple stuff
Sounds like I need to make a 101 course.
@@magicspiral3323 yes! For us newbies
Love that you left DBX off. I hate that shit. Nice song.
@@jonterhaar2573 thankies!
looks like the black 414 doesnt have xlr inputs?
Mee Shaa the 414 mki does not have XLR inputs, they added that on the mkii
@@magicspiral3323 ooooh that makes sense, i didnt know that!

Uh , tape cassette is WAY 2000 , last time I recorded using tape . Great video though !

I have no idea what you’re going on about, but I’m sure whatever you said was hilarious.
