Music and Dances from the Balkans

- The Balkans, also known as the Balkan Peninsula, is a geographic area in southeastern Europe with various definitions and meanings, including geopolitical and historical. The region takes its name from the Balkan Mountains that stretch throughout the whole of Bulgaria from the Serbian-Bulgarian border to the Black Sea coast. Balkan music is a type of music found in the Balkan region of southeastern Europe. The music is characterised by complex rhythm. The term "the Balkans" is used more generally for the region; it includes states in the region, which may extend beyond the peninsula, and is not defined by the geography of the peninsula itself. The Balkans are usually said to comprise Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Greece, and Slovenia.

Slovenia and Croatia are Central Europe with Mediteranean Influence.
Moldova is Influenced by Eastern Europe.
Romania is divided into Balkans(20%) Central Europe (30%)
And Eastern Europe ( 50%)
Even the North of Serbia ( 25% of Serbia) is Influenced by Central Europe (Vojvodina)

Balkan sister🙌
It's crazy, Balkan people were always diverse, but even though we fought, we never truly hated each other, but unfortunately the seeds of hatred that were planted by the west are growing deeper and deeper. While they take our people, resources, and destroy our land and culture, we are all hating each other like idiots, we became the laughing stock of the "civilized" world, even though Balkans is where their culture came from... I'm a Serbian, I'm also a strong Orthodox Christian, but I would still consider an Albanian my brother. I would drink, sing and dance with him in true Balkan style. That goes for all other ethnic groups here too! I wish there comes a day we put aside our differences. We don't have to be united in a single country, but we can all get along and function. I feel like people are more and more ready to forget the bloody history and move past, but the strong powers that control us, are not letting us do that...
I much agree, from a Bosniak
The only right school of thought. Only like this, as one, undivided people will we go forward. What the imperialists fear the most is our peoples united. All my respect for you, from Macedonia, Greece.

if the people of Balkan would unite, they would be unstoppable. That's what the elite does not want. In the end, they do not want anyone to unite, cause that's more difficult to control and to conquer. Balkan people are fed and feed their egos with pride and history, not realising that those up are giving every balkan nation a history where it says that those are the one, best and first on the balkans. it's pretty interesting and makes actually sense. If you tell all of them that each one of them is the best and the one all the others came from, then it does not wonder that war occurs out of that. But what to we have: all live in poverty and the elite powers take from every nation whatever they can and leave them will delusional dreams of great empires, which they will never get. All think big of themselves, but in reality all are nothing in todays world. Those who control are smart and know how to trick humans, especially the hot blooded balkan people.
i am an American of Italian parents and grand parents and i love this music, you don't have to be from this part of the world to love this music. my grandson was in the U S Army and when he deployed to Romania he traveled to some of the countries in Eastern Europe and i told him to learn as much as he could about the people and the customs of these countries and to remember he was not in America anymore, and to respect all the people he came across in these countries. when he came home he told me he fell in love with the countries and the people he had the pleasure to meet while he was on deployment, and he will travel back there one day.

I like both, really
Most don't actually like Japanese culture, they are just fans of a VERY small part of it, which are the anime programs, jpop music and cool ninja moves.. that also gained attention because of anime. Japanese culture is overrated and at the same time really wronged by, they have so much history that has and hasn't been discovered and people still feel the need to say that Japan is all about Anime and Child pornography, which I sadly can agree to it in some point, it is a sad country, even though they have some beautiful cultural aspects. It has been wronged by not only by foreigners but by themselves, you can see that with old Japanese people and old foreigners stalking minor Japanese kids.
I clicked on a suggestion by accident & I'm now in love with the music here.Much Love from America!🙌🎼❤❤
Oh controversial xD but appreciated nonetheless
In Bosnian the name for Balkans used to be HUM or Brijeg..Its only recently (historically looking)that its been called Balkan. Some say its from "greek mythology" that Zeus turned the Thracian King Haemus into a mountain and thats how it got its name but i dont accept this at all.

@Panter Panta he doesnt have to explain to you why, he just is

Patrik. Your surname is given by city in western Bosnia Novosel. It was Croatia mideval town Novosel, when Ottomans took it, locals move to middle Slavonia (now Zagreb - lower Croatia). So they choose surname after their town. That town does not exist but on its ruins before 350 years, it was formed village Bosanski Petrovac. Ottomans move mostly Serbs from nowadays Montenegro (then Rascia) as paid army or farmers and some Boshniaks and islamised Rascians (village Rašinovac). Village of Bosanski Petrovac rise in small town after industrialisation in Yu times. After war it is very poor. So, I hope that this would help you to know origin of surname. Novosel means lit. = New village. But on the place of Newvillage Ottomans made another new village called Bosanski Petrovac. 🤔😃
Btw, I'm Boshniak, greetings to you and Poland.
Once upon a time, before Ottomans, our King Tvrtko II said to ruler of Galicia and Poland Wladislaw, that to Boshniak and Polak, grandfathers were the same. Moreover, Elizabeta Bošnjačka was famous ruler of Poland of our Boshniak origin.
Pozdrav.

@Maggie Dawes Sounds awesome, but there would be arguments about the head of state. Who would lead? Greeks? Serbs? Bulgarians? Eh, it's best for that not to happen. An alliance, or a trade agreement, or a Balkan union for infrastructure of economic development however would be amazing. But I agree, best to leave the politics and religion out.

Go a couple centuries back and double check. Germany also had many similarities with the Balkans, as well as the rest of Europe. The picture is Portugues. Haven't you notice? Don't believe all your Nationalism from the State tells you.
I grew up in a family with a lot of German relatives from Banat where a lot of Donau Deutsche settled in the 18th century. We didn't call them Nemci the usual Serbian word for Germans but Svabi because they mostly hailed from Schwabenland.
Germany gave us Bach and Wagner and so much more. Thank you Germany. ❤️🇩🇪❤️❤️❤️

Salam. I am Indonesian. i like the balkan culture especially Bosnia and albania. Geographically, I know several countries that are part of the balkan peninsula such as: Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey (Edirne Istanbul). although there are cultural differences but for us you have similarities. Perhaps Byzantine and Ottoman influence.
As information, we also have a community that we call ASEAN, which are countries that occupy Southeast Asia both on the Asian mainland and in the archipelago (Islands).
Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand (Southern Region), Singapore (Indigenous), Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines (Southern Region) have the same culture, namely Austronesian Malays, the majority are Muslim.
while Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and parts of Vietnam have their culture, namely Austroasiatic (Far Family of China), the majority of which are Buddhist.
Meanwhile, Vietnam, Northern Thailand and Myanmar are the closest family to China, which is predominantly Buddhist
The Philippines is the closest family to Austronesian Malays, however, the majority of the Filipinos are Catholic.
Oh yaa, the Ottoman Sultanate once power into Aceh (northern Sumatra Island) and had a strong influence on the sultanates in Indonesia and Malaysia. Islam spread in Southeast Asia long before the Ottomans were founded. The Islamic treatises were brought directly by Yemeni Arab traders
Thank you for sharing.
