I live in France, and this might be the most popular junk food among certain French youth, those things are calorie bombs, so yes they are cheap and they fill you up, and in most cases you won't be able to finish just one, so yes you are getting a bang for your buck, but you are almost guaranteed to end up in the hospital with a severe pancreatic crisis (happened to me and I spent 14h in the hospital) because your body just can't take that much saturated fat in a single sandwich, I mean you can bash the Americans how much you want on how fat and greasy some of their foods are, but the greasiest quadruple bypass burger from the Heart Attack Grill is like having a healthy organic salad compared to a French Taco, don't take the risk guys.
I ate a few in my youths; and they are a lot; but I wouldn't say they automatically cause you to go to the hospital (sorry that happened to you though).
You don't know typical American food either. Edit: this "tacos" is exactly the same sort of thing popular with American youths, no better no worse. The rest of us, however, would ATTEMPT to eat a bit better though we struggle with cheap calories and high cost of living. Even still, travel to the US and try our non-fast food restaurants before you judge.
In the Diccionario de Mejicanismos (Mexicanismos) of 1895, defines the Burrito as: "Rolled tortilla, with meat or other food inside, which in Yucatán they call codzito, and in Cuernavaca and Mexico, taco." And there's more information, like the legend of Juan Méndez, who transported the food in a donkey (burrito).
I had the misfortune of having tried one of these nasty monstrosities in some dodgy suburb just outside of Paris. I still don't know how it's possible that this can legally be called 'food

IMO, as a Mexican I would definitely eat that, but I would call it a burrito... This is a globalized era and tacos are one of our gifts to the world, if tacos want to evolve that way, let them be. What bothers me a little is that the hard shell tacos are shown as the default tacos, which they definitely are not, they are an American variety (which is also fine for me), but I would prefer that the traditional Mexican tacos were shown like the default ones.
These French messed up one of Mexico’s culinary gift with this burrito.
The French can't even create a Mexican derivative right. 😂

Why use the word “tacos” because of the tortilla? Dude burritos are right there just call it a “french burrito” the French have no problem rolling Rs 💀💀
Not to even mention, they still are in dire need of having real proper Mexican cuisine.
It's actually a mix between arab and French food invented by the arabs here in France, the fact that it ended up looking like a burrito/kebab is indeed kinda odd but coincidental. I personally find it unapealing but I'm glad it's there for those who like it. I have to hand it to the French. They're masters of gastronomic marketing. At least they could have added some béchamel sauce or something

This is fascinating. I think it's cool that two different cuisines in two different countries came to a similar result: The French Taco, and the California Burrito (ca. 1980). I think it shows the versatility of the flour tortilla as a wrap for a lot of different combinations of food. It's awesome!

"Rolled tortilla, with meat or other food inside, which in Yucatán they call codzito, and in Cuernavaca and Mexico, taco."
And there's more information, like the legend of Juan Méndez, who transported the food in a donkey (burrito).
