Hey Ian, I respectfully disagree that Melodyne sounds better. Don't let the Wavestune interface fool your ears lol. I've been using Wavestune as my go-to for 10 years and honestly, IMO, it is the easiest to use and sounds phenomenal. I own Melodyne and Logic (Flex Pitch needs a lot of work to fix artifact issues) but I always reach for Wavestune to save me from vocal editing hell. At the end of the day, it's about what works for you.
I too have both Melodyne and Waves tune and I can also say that you can't judge waves tune by the look of it. It sounds good if you know how to use it. The only problem is there is no formant shift option.
You have to "select all" then adjust the "ratio, speed and note transition" to get a smoother, natural feel. You have it set to fast so it sounds like the "T Pain" effect.

For my use case, I often find waves actually gives cleaner sounding results. I am not looking for an auto tune effect, just for fixing bits that need fixing , transparently. I would also need to bump the melody next tier for similar control.

I've been using Waves Tune for 14 years. I do vocal engineering full time. I've been considering Melodyne for a few years. The thing I like in Waves Tune is they have a piano roll that plays the notes as a reference. No other tuning plugin does this. Waves Tune does sound quite digital and less natural. I never knew about the tolerance function! Great vid!

Do you think Waves Tune would do it for Country and Slow Rock vocals? I don't really wanna spend the 249 Euros for Melodyne, especially because Waves Tune is on a 88% discount right now.
Yep, definitely would work for that! Just dial back the wetness for a more natural sounding tuning
For hip hop artists Could you use Melodyne when your singing vocals then put on autotune after ?
Forsure, big fan of this, I usually do this for my vocals. Melodyne to get things in the right area, then autotune to tighten it up.
How about the Auto tune that comes with Logic, straight out of the box? If you give Melodyne 9/10, and Waves Tune a 5.5/10, what would you give Logic's built in auto-tuner?
I would give Melodyne an 8.5 and waves a 7.5. The comparison in Logic would be Flex Pitch which I would give a 7.5. Sounds pretty close to Melodyne but I've have problems with it crashing logic before. The pitch correction effect in Logic I would give a 5, doesn't sound awful but doesn't sound great and there aren't a lot of adjustments you can make to it.

Main Vocal Melodyne. All others wave. Good compromise sound and work wise. I used Flexpitch. But it kills my nerves with the bloobs and bliibs

Hey Ian to be honest and respectfully those vocals sound VERY unnatural to the point that i'd record them again if the plug in can't fix it
Can't tell the difference at all with all the effects you have going through the vocal track. I suggest next time you do a video take off all the effects so we can hear the difference.

This comes off as very biased. First you set the speed to 157 so that it's barely doing anything and say it sounds "cheap". Then you put the retune speed to 0 so of course it sounds like a T pain effect. You didn't even try to make it sound natural. I'm not saying waves tune sounds better but at least learn how to use it correctly before you make a comparison video.
The natural sounding range would be somewhere between 10-20 Speed and 40-60 Note Transition.

This is a no brainer to me... Melodyne is WAY better, but u would expect it by the maasive price difference... For a hobbist, waves definitely works.
Honestly, for the price difference I couldn't hear a damn bit of difference between the two. Also, the vocal samples you are using do not even sound like a human, it sounds like a robotic computer singing. You should do a video like this comparing the two, but use a straight up non-processed vocal from someone who can actually sing (and do like a country song) that's more focused on the vocal itself and you won't be able to tell a bit of difference between the 2 programs. Why do ALL of these comparison videos always use vocal samples that sound like robots! Drives me nuts. Use something like Neil Young, James Taylor, etc., that type of vocal.
Heck yeah I'll look into it
