      or just use a 10440 in one of the original slots, but then it's not free

    • @cekpi7
      @cekpi7 3 роки тому

      @@dummkompf 10440 has really small capacity, 3xAAA NiMhs would be best way to go without modifying anything. 3x10440 would be a bit better (if we take into account 900mAh NiMh and 350mAh 10440, that's 3240mWh for AAA and 3885mWh for 10440) but you would have to rearrange slots.
      I've actually used pouch style lithiums in these typed of flashlights with very little mod, you could fit 1000mAh battery inside very easily, you would just have to cut some plastic away from battery holder.

    I just got my freebie light recently and was thinking how to convert to 18650s since I've got a bunch. I've used battery holders in the past, but this is a great idea since it looks built in. I'll probably use a TP4056 charger module though (a power bank module would be even better!). Also, I'm pretty sure there's enough room so that you can fit three (3) 18650s instead of just two. By the way, the newer lights have a very nice LED module now. Another great video. Thanks.

    Awesome job!! I did the same thing with the same light 3 years ago using a old cell phone battery and the battery and charge circuit to fit inside with a hole for charging with a mirco USB.. Mine last a long time but yours would last 10 times longer.. Too cool thanks for sharing!!

      Of all the Asian accents, I would have to say that the Vietnamese accent is the most annoying to my ears... Chinese / Taiwanese is slightly better, but I think Japanese seems less harsh... Thai would be somewhere between Chinese and Japanese though... NYer, Boston, and "Ebonics" accents are also particularly irritating...

    I did a slightly different hack on mine... On the underside of the battery compartment, I used a short piece of small gauge wire and solder to jump each side's terminals to make continuous bars, then used 3X 4.2v 10400 Li-ion (AAA) rechargeable batteries in parallel to power the light. Wired like this it can use 1 to 3 Li-ions.
    The disadvantage relative to your hack is less runtime; the advantage is no increase in form factor.
    When I find the right connectors, I will add a charge port. Nicer would be to add an internal charge circuit...

      Garys over here following in young Eminems footsteps and shytt! Strapped w/ that short piece, singing in the small gay Choir, as a young soldier. Every week getting jumped in the East Side terminals, and using that as inspiration for later gonig on to make CONTINUOUS bars! Great Em line too btw! "all i have is darkness, Lord cant you tell. No clue why, missed my flight no way off this one way carrosel.. blacked out, high? (no doubt), smoked flower, cant fight? (knocked out).. waking up with the knowldge, in a parallel, to power the light".. Keep powering that light of yours brotha! Also Im Dyslexic btw, might read/write a few letters wrong occasionally 😉
      Fun Fact: in an interview Em states that in the parallel universe the knowledge to power his light was actually found written on a bapkin..😅

    Edit: Ended up using a Samsung li-ion battery since it fits (with a few adjustments to the plastic). The blue resistor burned when I first put the battery in but that was an easy fix.

    Looks like the same battery that's in the solar driveway light $10.00 and the pocket power pack $5.00. All you need is a nice sunny window seal to set your rechargabe driveway light on and a wired in anelog headphone jack for a small sun charging jack and switch over system. Then you can charge those type batters all year long for free. Also back pack and camping friendly. Just some more cool ideas !

    Use a dead light bulb (the energy saving things/LED's/plastic) and a glass/plastic thing with lid. Cut the dome off. Glue the dome of the lightbulb to the lid and make a hole for the wires. Add LED's. Add resistors, maybe. Add charge boards. Add wires/holes/hooks/holders inside. Enjoy.

    Now I had just ordered five power banks that take two 18650 cells. . My thought is to use batteries from garden lights as they are aaa in the ones I have. Then use a solar panel to charge them.
    As well as use a power bank in a pinch.

    Nice mod, these lights are great, but what is MOST annoying is there is not a simple on/off switch, the little light at the end is useless, so you always have to hit the button twice to turn it on/off.
    So I hack mine (when I collect enough to do many at once), to remove the little led and make the switch so it always just turns on/off the main light.

    Why didn't you just cut the inner plastic which holds the spring tabs for the batteries to fit the 18650s sideways then solder wires directly to the battery since you arent going to replace them.
    You could have even just removed the inner plastic completely and soldered the wires from spring tabs to the batteries and glued some foam to hold the batteries in position.
    Also cut a hole to mount a charger socket.
    A little bit of rewiring would make this more professional and slimmer profile

    It's going to be brighter and it's going to be more volts because 3 Triple A batteries in that light Are only to around 3 volts because only two of them are in series which equals 3 votes... you will be much brighter...

    • @seanseoltoir
      @seanseoltoir Рік тому

      I've looked at 2 of the ones that I have that are currently disassembled and they appear to be wired with all 3 in series... It wouldn't make sense to have 2 of them in parallel and the other in series since the limit of your power would be based on the capacity of the single battery... Also, one of the things about LEDs is that they are a bit picky on the voltage that you give them... It only takes a bit too much for you to get a burned out LED and it will happen so quickly and without a flash, so you probably won't even notice it happening... With a white LED, you will probably be looking at a Vf (forward voltage) of around 3.3V with a max of around 4V, followed by a burned out LED soon thereafter...Since the AA cells an produce at least 4.5V when connected in series (when new), there would have to be some sort of circuitry inside the light to reduce the power... This could be as simple as a small resistor to drop the voltage and limit the current... Ideally, there would also be some circuitry to compensate for the lower voltage on the batteries as they get depleted (perhaps similar to a "joule thief", but considering the price of these lights, I would be surprised if that was the case...
      Assuming that you want to run the LED at 20 mA, then if it has a 3.3V Vf and you have a 4.5V supply voltage, you would need a 60 ohm current limiting resistor. There are various LED resistor calculators online...

    Could just wire in a 12v to 4.5v cell phone charger or 12v to USB for a stationary light.
    $1 at dollar tree.

    Or you could buy something like 10 pcs 3.7V 1000mAh LiPo Polymer Rechargeable Battery For Mp3 GPS USB Pen 102535 from eBay of around $22 and put 2 batteries inside and the case would close right and these will also charge to 4.2V. Yes it's not free but it's use-full. I bought some and made 9V rechargeable batteries using a Micro USB 3.7V 18650 Lithium Li-ion Battery Charger Module Boost Step up 4.3V to 27V output and some heat shrink tube.

      They vary... I usually have a couple stuck to the side of my freeze and they usually stick to it, some more than others... I had one though that as soon as I put in on the metal side, it started slowly sliding down the freezer side...

    No thanks. Its NOT jard to replace 3 trip A batterys as opposed to hacking the crap out of one. They are FREE to begin with. On top of that you still have to charge them. I see NOTHING practical about what you did. I like those lights and get a huge pack of batterys for cheap enough. Generally, they last a long, long time too.

    HF also has free batteries with coupon, if I bought the spot welder how much would that cost vs buying batteries. This hack makes no economical sense.

    • @vuaeco
      @vuaeco  5 років тому +2

      LOL. You have to buy something to get those free batteries, mate. And those batteries are the worst thing you can do to your device. Put them in and a couple weeks later you'll see it leaking battery juice out and corrode the terminal. Next thing you know, your device doesn't work any more because the terminals are no longer conductive. And why do you need to buy a spot welder just to make a flashlight? Are spot welders for one time use only? Also, in case you didn't know, there are more than one way to connect 2 batteries together without a spot welder.
