Hi, really like the things you do. The one I really love is the power Hammer what a great design. I hope to build one soon. Thank you for sharing with all of us. Keep up the good work friend. Ralph
I was able to use a real power hammer in s Blacksmiths shop 20 years ago. The hardest thing for me was getting used to the foot control. The best thing was both hands were free to control the piece I was working on. Great job! Can't wait to see it in action!!!
+Harvey Spooner I will be using long tongs, so hopefully no black nails...lol, I will be post more progress a little later this week. Thanks and take care
Before I get too deep into this video, I have to mention the intro/outro music sounds a bit like Purple Rain. That thing is going to be a real time saver in your blacksmith projects.
Impressive build! However as you suggest in your replies I feel it may run a bit too fast so it might be necessary to slow it down a bit in terms of strikes per minute also one often needs softer strikes rather than full bloodied ones. Will the slip clutch idea work with a vee belt drive?
+Dan Whiteford I have thought the same thing but was going to try this first. I have some additional pulleys , shaft and pillow blocks to add a jack shaft if needed. I didn't want to slow it down to much and loose all the force. It will use the same type of belt like a riding mower so you can slip it when the tension is off the belt.
+black85chevy When I was a kid I get eight finger mashed in a car electric window trying to hold it down. The electric motor in that 56 Olds was stronger than me. Didn't help that my brother was at the controls though...lol
going to be a very handy tool when done. I was wondering, what is the machine just to the left and rear of the power hammer that's painted red, with what looks like a gas engine running a grey device by a belt? anyway, great video.
+dave1135 The red engine is a generator I built. I got a 10k watt generator head from harbor freight and used a 16hp engine I had to power it. Works good.
+ZIGgassedUP I bet your right about that. I have a turn buckle that will be on the connecting rod so the stroke can be adjusted that way the hammer won't dead blow the anvil surface .
if you can find it, definitely make the anvil solid. the ideal hammer to anvil weight ratio is 20:1 .... some go up to 50:1. that translates to a 320lb anvil for your 16lb sledge hammer!
Hello, my dear friend! I looked at your video and got a good mood! Thank you! I congratulate you on the occasion of the world and work! I wish you that would work like youtube, brought pleasure! I invite you to visit us on a new video.

Rusty, That auto hammer is beyond cool!!!! Don't let it bite U, I imagine it could give one a black thumb nail very quickly.... Thanks for posting!!!!
+Harvey Spooner I will be using long tongs, so hopefully no black nails...lol, I will be post more progress a little later this week. Thanks and take care

even if I have to read it.
How ya doin pal?
+MostlymoparIH Not too bad.
I still gotta find somebody that can pour a copper statue for me. :O
Copper that's kinda expensive isn't it?
Very cool
+wtbm123 Hoping it works out Terry
You might consider adding an adjustment link on to the back where the rebar is, neat project!
+TheDisorderly1 You're right, I got an adjustable top link at TSC this afternoon and was cheap too.
That going to be a real pounder....watch the fingers....
+tertessa I hope it will do some real pounding, just don;t want it jumping 6 foot every time it swings...lol
Can't wait to see how you attach the rod to the pulley.
+Farmboy's Garage I have a plan and hope it will work out. Thanks and take care
I'm sure it will!
Before I get too deep into this video, I have to mention the intro/outro music sounds a bit like Purple Rain.
That thing is going to be a real time saver in your blacksmith projects.
+5 Acres on the Bayou That would make a good intro for the first operation. Purple smoke drifting around ...ha ha
The start of another great series. How is that motor coming along?
+Mothership Videos Thanks Noel, I guess I need to get back on that engine . I've been distracted with these other projects
Impressive build! However as you suggest in your replies I feel it may run a bit too fast so it might be necessary to slow it down a bit in terms of strikes per minute also one often needs softer strikes rather than full bloodied ones. Will the slip clutch idea work with a vee belt drive?

HI, have you posted the plans . It would help with making my own one. nice job.
wahct em fangers. lol. that's a neat lil set up.
+black85chevy When I was a kid I get eight finger mashed in a car electric window trying to hold it down. The electric motor in that 56 Olds was stronger than me. Didn't help that my brother was at the controls though...lol

good video make it work
+james baker Thanks James , going to give it a shot and we will see.
interesting Lloyd , Bet that with some fine tune works well ! Thumbs up man ..
+ShawnMrFixitlee A little easier way hopefully to get the effect I want. But we will see. Thanks Shawn
Boy i Really Like This - T=up Lloyd
+FixinThatUp It is coming along , will be ready before you know it. Take care
Crikey Lloyd that thing is going to make quite some noise I imagine.
+ZIGgassedUP I bet your right about that. I have a turn buckle that will be on the connecting rod so the stroke can be adjusted that way the hammer won't dead blow the anvil surface .
See now that's what I thought the spring was for so that when you go past the stroke the mechanism won'n lock up.
hello sir I have started the project of yours but I want how much force required for forging and weight of the hammer die.
The sledge hammer I used was a 16 pound but a 12 would work . The link below give more information.
ua-cam.com/video/e4qdhd10xtA/v-deo.html
if you can find it, definitely make the anvil solid. the ideal hammer to anvil weight ratio is 20:1 .... some go up to 50:1. that translates to a 320lb anvil for your 16lb sledge hammer!
Very good information . Thanks
that's kind of like what the old black smith shops had and they called it a trip hammer.. will save arms being sore.
+MissouriOldTimer I hope it works out . It will take a lot of the hard work out of it. We will see
Good job , can I get the Detailed scheme of power hummer ? thank you .
This video gives the measurements
ua-cam.com/video/e4qdhd10xtA/v-deo.html
lol yes sir I grew up in a 77 Buick station wagon... no safety motors like now lol.
+black85chevy Yep, nothing like a 16lbs hammer swinging by your head to keep you alert...ha ha
🖒🖒
Thank you
