I've had an (Australian delivered) 2008 X since 2012, which I bought with 88,000 Kms on it. It was absolutely problem free (except that the ACD control module shat itself) until 290 000 km when the timing chain let go and it required an engine rebuild. I've had the car upgraded to 400+ KW, its now at 315,000km making it probably the highest mileage X on earth, and its still my daily driver. Best car I ever had.
do not get sst, buy a manual one. trust me. i went through two mechatronic units in my sst evo x costin 3k each just to repair and fit. big jobs. wish i bought a manual. took it ffrom 60k up to 120k as my daily driver and the only engine problem i had was maf (mass airflow sensor) needed replacing. minor. strong car. strong engine just shit auto gearbox.

Current Evo x owner , have had mine for 7 years . 2012 gsr and let me tell you. It’s an absolute money pit of a car. It’s worth it depending on who you ask . For me ,I’m prob 60-65k deep with mine . 39k for the car and another 23 ish in parts and maintenance. Which tbh isn’t much considering other people I’ve talked to with the car. Be ready ,especially if it’s your first. It’s gets expensive real quick. You better have a genuine love for the car ,only way it’s justified lol everyday I get told so sell it.
This is 100% accurate, especially if you happen to have an engine failure or just build the engine to have piece of mind/more power. Excellent platform but prepare to spend money. Like all sports cars - money pit if you start modding.
Test drove and sti, rs and ended up buying an evo. First is sti's are nice and drives the same as the rs but there's too many subarus and sti's on my area so no to that. RS maybe but not a big fan of its looks. Evo otoh is unique, more enjoyable to drive and looks aggressive. Just ask subaru where they got their design from🤣
I'm gonna buy 1 anyways. $30,900 with 71k miles. It's always been my dream car and I'm damned if I'm not gonna chase my dreams. Life's to short to not enjoy it!
The oil changes won't stop the timing chain stretching. Its a rubbish design. There is an updated version with stronger links which supersedes the old design. Needs doing before 40k. Also definitely get the fuel pump relay replaced to the new orange one. The original black ones burn out making the car run lean. A few engines on evo x have been destroyed because of this.
Damn You. Damn You. I checked out your M3 video cause I wanted to buy an E46 M3 to remake the Most Wanted version and after subscribing, lately I have found myself going through all your videos. Yet another youtube channel has recruited me into their cult.

'12 GSR here, just crossed 100k. One of the later years for sure. The timing chain he mentions at the beginning is a real issue, and the service manual recommends it be replaced @100k. AFAIK this problem really hit 08-11's.

Second hand there are simply too many issues for such a highly stressed car from new, which is likely to have been thrashed during ownership and now exists without a UK manufacturer presence! It's one of those cars you want, and maybe blinded by desire, but unless it's been a garage queen give an Evo X a miss unless you have very deep pockets or are a masochist...

Well technically there was one Evo that wasn't a Lancer, the Pajero Evolution. But yes, the basis of every Evo is a Lancer. But they are very different underneath, much more complex suspension, extra bracing & welds. Lighter materials in the construction.
This is shockingly bad, I like the look of the car but a 2000 honda civic hatch doesn't have any problems compared to this .....has anyone swapped a k20 in one of these ?

Common problems list:
1. Fuel pump relay failure
2. Stretched timing chains
3. Cracked exhaust manifold
4. Leaking gearbox oil cooler
5. Broken shifter fork (for manual gearbox)
6. Slipping clutch
7. Uprated diff pins (recommended upgrade)
