We've published an updated version of this video! How to Transfer Data from Old to New Android - 5 Methods! (2023): ua-cam.com/video/B3pTfVYJAz0/v-deo.html
@Techboomers As the timestamps were all 0:00 on the opening page I thought I'd add them here. 1. Using device-specific software 0:37 2. Backup and restore with Google account 1:06 3. NFC Connection 1:53 4. Copy and transfer files using a computer 2:37 5. Use a third-party app or service 4:01 Nice, clear and succint video. Many thanks.
Thank you! I have a new LG device, but when I tried to use the LG Mobile switch app, on the second step, I disabled screen overlay for all apps, except for a failure with trying to do so for one-Google Play services for dual apps. Using the Clone-it app, I got the same error. This is on a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X. For the backup and restore with a Google account, it wasn't clear how to restore the data after following the video instructions. From Google Drive, I was unable to do anything with the stored backups, which I could see on my desktop for the Redmi, but not on my new phone. NFC isn't available on my Redmi. So I have copied the internal storage on my Redmi to my computer, and have tried to copy my new LG V10 H960 phone, but I was not able to copy all of the data under internal storage from the old phone and just paste it into the internal storage folder on the new phone, so I tried with all folder except the Android folder. That copied some folders, but then failed with the Download folder (due to a conflict with the existing Download folder. So I will copy all folders except for existing ones (Android, Download, Music, Pictures, Videos, DCIM, etc.), and copy and paste the content of the existing ones, and also exclude irrelevant folders, e.g. MIUI, mivideo, and hidden folders (starting with .) So far this is working out as I have finished copying and pasting all the contents, and am just waiting for the processes to complete! However! It is now complete, and no apps have been added. :( So it appears that I have to install each app manually.
real nice and easy to understand. I can't speak true to her claims yet. As my phone will not be here till 4 days. But I haven't got a new phone for a long time and I don't want to lose everything this time. At first there was no way I knew I could avoid a loss. Back when Android was still a baby (doughnut and eclair). But she caught me up with the transfer methods. Awesome! 5 stars. Her pretty, relaxing voice makes the issue a better time.
I think this is a very good example of how a 'how to' video should be done. I am about to try a transfer -lets see how it goes. But the clear explanations -including relevant screen shots- are very helpful. And it is slow enough, without being too slow. Thank you techboomers.
This is very helpful information for me, Everyone use last option for transfer data, but at time I realized other option are very useful and helpful for transferring data, so thanks
Thank you very much. I transferred all my files from an old Samsung Galaxy to my new Xiaomi Mi9 using a computer to transfer the files. It worked perfectly.
may I know after you transfered the data folder like for example Android Data folder to your new phone, what's next? How to make the apps in that folder appear in your new phone? Thru installing the apps in the phone and it will automatically read the data stored in your folder? So that when you open your newly installed app, you are already signed in in that app?
Thanks for such a comprehensive and clear job. Your 4th method, copying files, only works if Android apps maintain compatibility over time. In other words, my Android 10 apps need to be able to read the corresponding data from my old Android 2.3.6 phone. If there are exceptions for particular applications, I'll have to try other methods you listed.
As of May 2020 Motorola Migrate no longer exists. Will the LG or Samsung app work on a Moto X to Moto G7 Power migration? Google is making this WAY too complex for the average user. Data migration is incredibly easy by comparison for iPhones. Anyway, thanks for the video.
Does Option #4 include the transfer of text message content? Could I then access my text message content on my computer and print out a specific conversation? Thank you for an excellent video!
Hi Thanks for the video which is very helpful. However in the 4th Option once we copied data to PC do we need to transfer that data Immediately to our new device or we do it afterwards ? please clarify. Thanks Kiran
Thank You Jessica. I like 2 methods appbackup and restore and Storage in computer copy paste. Third party like cloneit are risky as ur personal data may get robbed. U explained all in just 5 minutes. Thanks a lot

Unfortunately, Motorola Migrate went out of use in 2018. I've got new phone on the way so hoping either Google or via computer works as I'm not great with technology!! Very helpful video though so thanks
Copying files over from an old to a new Android (option #4) seems really risky. Haven't changes been made, say, from a seven-year-old phone to a new one?
T the 3:41 point of your video are you just pasting into the directory the directory that shows in File Explorer as " Android / Internal Storage?". Overwriting or merging folders of the same name?
I plug my Android phone (Essential) into my computer but the PH-1 folder is empty. Nothing I tried will bring up the Android files on my computer. The instructions are perfect--but I don't know how to get by stage 1. Help!
Not to skip any steps in your video but my new phone is asking for a sim card. In what step do you add a sim card to the new phone? Can I use my old sim card?
Do both phones have to be turned on with a cell phone carrier to do this? What if my old phone is turned off and the new one is activated? Will I be able to still transfer all the data from old Android to a new one or do BOTH phones have to be activated? Please advise. Thanks.

Maybe you knew how to properly downgrade from Oreo to KitKat? Or you can't downgrade it to that?
Question please. Does it work transferring your apps to new phone or it onlyvaaplies to photo contact.?
Great video. I don't have to sit in a noisy coffee shop to listen to it, I have a place to live, so it was perfect volume.

Once they started using Android 10, Motorola removed their Motorola Migrate app so it is much more difficult to transfer from older devices.
This video is soothing as well as useful.

After completing this process you can switch your sim card from your old phone to your new one.
Superb ..
Thanks!
Do both phones have to be turned on with a cell phone carrier to do this? What if my old phone is turned off and the new one is activated? Will I be able to still transfer all the data from old Android to a new one or do BOTH phones have to be activated? Please advise. Thanks.
No - your best option in that scenario is to use your desktop PC to transfer your data. If you will use apps, both phones need to be turned on.
Method 4 seems the most logical and easiest...
Thanks
Thanks for the info...Samsung Smart Switch worked well between J1 and J6 . Happy New Year 2020.
