This is the journey I’ve been waiting on. Just about anybody can lay on a beach and drink coconut water. But not many can sail into the belly of the beast and come out the other side stronger. You two are amazing. Stay safe and stay well.
Amazing. They’ve come so far from their rv days. I remember when they bought the boat and learned to sail. Now look at them. Seasoned world sailors. Boat looks a lot better than an rv.
Jason has learned to deal with mechanical issues; he's come a long way from trying to deal with a flat tire on the RV & a new air compressor when he didn't even realize the air intake cover was still screwed on which prevented the compressor from compressing any air.
On a positive note, you weren't in the life raft and you are still sailing. It's hard to keep your chin up when you feel beaten down. Virtual support and hugs sent your way.🤗
Thank you for allowing me to sail with you without the work. At my age (68) I love how you two are able to work together. It was the element of constant repair that pushed me back to shore after a decade at sea. Solo on a sailboat is the most challenging personal experience I've done. Whenever I feel a tinge of regret, I just catch one of your vids and say to myself 'Ahh, that's right. Now I remember why I stopped.' Wishing you smooth sailing from Michigan.
I just thought to myself the other day, watching the SV Delos channel that you either take special joy in the continuous handwork or you will give it up. Brian obviously has no problem with that because he is a born engineer and mechanic, he actually likes this stuff. It would drive me nuts, not after a decade but after a season. That was quite the cliff hanger at the end. I can only imagine the relief you guys felt when you finally reached NZ. Warm wishes for better days ahead and getting the boat tasks completed that have been wearing you down.
Just have to say, from the beginning of this sailing journey my biggest issue was I did not see either of your letting go and embracing the sailing life. I saw you trying to control the uncontrollable. In this passage I see a shift in your personalities, perspective and approach to this journey. As a lifelong sailor I see in both of you the sailing spirit taking hold after these many years, keep up the hard work and embrace this journey! May you have fair winds and following seas on the adventure ahead.
I think it's international maritime law(?) When not at anchor, at least one person must be at the helm, at least actively monitoring if not controlling the boat. No such thing as both of them being able to sleep at the same time. They could use these sequences as proof in case of some "incident" where they're stuck in some court dealing with a damages lawsuit. "We done our duty, see!". Of course, the eyes-closed continuous air-guitar parts with Jason may work against them. :-D
Watching Nikki rock it in the kitchen and turn out a $50 gourmet plate brings tears of joy and empathy, I've been there, done that. And watching the Watchman on the bridge rockin' out to tunes brought back unexpected memories of my son. Love to you two and keep on rocking in the free world.
It is such an incredible gift that you were able to stop at Minerva Reef and have a way-stop like that in the middle of the ocean amidst storms & winds! It was the sea version of a road side rest area. We feel so lucky & grateful to be here in the PNW in our wooden tiny house and be experiencing bits of the south Pacific ocean sea life with you through your video episodes of your VERY REAL LIFE experiences. The ocean is soooooo beautiful, wondrous & raw. You two and Curiosity out in the big blue ocean is quite an incredible & inspiring sight to watch & care about! The "wild cooking with Nikki" segment was so real & awesome... and creative! Wheewww... what a sail to be continued!!!!!!!
Gear being carried away is one of the realities of life at sea. Just like continuing to function is. Loved the whole video the goofy Jason bits and the cooking montage was classic.
Sure glad to know you are safe in NZ. At the boatyard, change your topping lift for a heavier line that can be used as a main halyard. It is the best way to have a replacement readily available.
Julia Child could not have done what you just pulled off. That was master class. Also, I find it exceedingly rare to encounter sailing couples actually sailing the open ocean, and I relish every shared minute you’ve given us. Woot! On to NZ!
Sorry about the losses you have experienced along your journey.. Rafts can be replaced, you cannot.. Wishing you many happy days of less than expensive repairs and hoping NZ has absolutely everything you may need.. Enough to where you can also enjoy your visit.. This video is wonderful in spite of the wacky waves.. And hoping you are feeling well and get to a doctor soon.. sending prayers and much love..
I didn't realize your bridge deck was sooo low until you were cleaning. Yikes on losing the raft locker. Must have taken a big wave. At least it didn't take out the windows. Glad you guys made it safe to NZ. Looking forward to the next episode as always!
At least part of it is the fact that the swell is substantial. Good bridgedeck clearance is typically around 6-7% of the length, so for a 43 foot boat (the Leopard 43 is actually 42' 6") that means around 30-36 inches is plenty high enough.
These videos really put your quick update a few weeks ago into perspective. You said it was hard trip... But wasn’t ready for 30 secs! Glad you are safe in NZ and hope you are enjoying the beauty that it has to offer. Looking forward to your travels 😊

This is SO excellent, I wonder why anyone wants to watch broadcast TV when the net has so much good stuff, happy stuff, explore stuff, two guys at sea, in love sailing into sunsets (and fixing stuff along the way!!) what an amazing world why be a land lubber when the sea beckons your souls.......love the Cat too !
I am watching Nikki cook this gourmet meal at sea in really rough conditions, while I am sitting on land and can barely cook a ground beef patty. Then laughing at Jason rocking out at the helm waiting to eat. So yes, Nikki slaved a way in the Galley, but what they didn't show you was Jason doing all the dishes from that gourmet meal.
I know… tonight I cheated and heated a bought pizza and set timer for 18 mins, totally stupid as the edge got burnt! Thankfully my husband is tolerant of my ‘gourmet cooking’!! 🇳🇿🇳🇿🐑🐑👏🏼👏🏼🤣🤣
Love your videos! Every week I look forward to the next one... You guys keep me going. You make sailing look really glamorous and then you bring us back to reality at the end... I learn so much from you!
There’s a weird time delay with this one. They landed in NZ close to a month ago now and have been slowly dribbling out videos of the passage while resting and repairing. It’s good stuff but I expect at some point we will get a fast forward and summary of what’s been going on on dry land for the past few weeks.
I found you guys about 4 or 5 months ago and have watched all the videos you've made since then. What this North Carolinian finds so amazing is that the 2 best youtubers I’ve come across come from Tennessee. I haven't gone back and watched all your videos yet simply because I schedule my binges, but as soon as I'm done with The Sopranos, (I just finished Season 4, Episode 4 (The Weight)) you'll be next.
That boat has been through a lot of stress. i would have someone look at its structure quite closely while it's on the hard. You don't want something major cracking apart while you're 500 miles out to sea.
All I can say is I'm glad you made it safely to NZ (more or less). What a journey!!!! Hope things are getting better for you now that you're there. Am on tenterhooks to hear/see what's next xo
Good Morning! I hope the breeze is at your back and the seas are smooth. Did I hear you say you lost your Life Raft at the very end of this Vlog? Prayers coming your way from Ohio for your Safe passage from this point forward. 🙏🏻👍🤗😎❣️
You guys are so lucky. You both look great and are best friends on top of that. What a way to live while you can. Keep living your dream and letting us watch.
It is so much easier and less worrisome to watch this knowing you arrived safely. It reminds of how I like when my daughter tells me about her risky adventures after rather than before they happen.
I have seen other videos where the very old and never used life raft was replaced by a new one just to be safe and maybe for regulations. You guys are doing a great job. You have shown great character through this whole COVID ordeal.
Life always throws many challenges which strengthen characters so always look at the brighter side of life the positives and rewards are there for those who chase them. We love your content please keep positive you live the dream.
We don’t comment nearly enough but we follow your journey every week and we’re one of your many likes. We’re thankful to know you made it because this video was intense. We’ve loved watching your journey for years and can’t wait to see New Zealand with you. XOXO ❤️ - Michelle & Brian
Man we’ve been in some stuff like that 🤢. A thought if your halyard issue happens again…we have an L46 and I’m assuming your running rigging for the main is very similar to ours. If you’re worried about your halyard failing or getting stuck or not holding in a clutch (even after whipping it) the topping lift can likely be used as a halyard replacement. This of course makes for a different challenge when raising/lowering the main, but in a pinch can work as a replacement halyard. Glad you made it safely…let the boat repair marathon begin! Hopefully Kent and Laurent are giving you lots of help!
😂😂😂 Jason at the helm and Nikki in the galley was hilarious 😂. That meal looked awesome. The way you endured this inspirational. God Bless and watch over you both.
I always worry about a rogue wave knocking them both in the water. I actually had that nightmare a few weeks ago. Glad to know they are already safe in NZ.
I was determined. True, beautiful food. Beautiful cook also. Lost life raft!! Good grief. The refit will be interesting and adventures ashore in NZ. Best wishes continued safe passage from Georgia USA. 👏👍🇺🇸
Ya know it's funny watching this as I remember, not sure 4-5 years ago when ya'll were in your motorhome in Alaska and had a flat tire and had NO idea what to do... I recall Shawn James making a comment... Now????? A MAINTAINENCE PRO......Congrats...
Hi Jason and Niki, what a journey, and I don’t mean just this passage! You two deserve many more subscribers. Your content follows the truth of life’s ups and downs, especially currently as the world faces adversity I’ve never witnessed in my lifetime. The people you surround yourself with, the photography is stunning, you both are truly special, incredible people.. Niki your the epitome of classy feminism, strength with a continuous smile behind that helm and camera, to prepare a meal fit for your King Jason, who I also adore, was just remarkable, soup from a microwave would have been my best effort.. I’m sure there were tears on this trip, how could there not be.. be well, enjoy Nz..🌸🪃⛵️
I love the longer passage videos and was really enjoying this one and thinking how good it was. But then… “We lost our lifeboat” I don’t want to wait another week for the next video! We need a midweek update.🙏

Nicely stated!!!
Amazing. They’ve come so far from their rv days. I remember when they bought the boat and learned to sail. Now look at them. Seasoned world sailors. Boat looks a lot better than an rv.
Especially in this weather. I went fishing last week, it was so rough I barely could paddle back to the shore. New Zealand winter is extreme.
So I’ve been here from the beginning and I am constantly impressed with Jason’s ability to take care of business on the boat! Well done!
Well, I remembere him trying to fix the tyre back when they still had a van and that was hilarious xD

There’s a weird time delay with this one. They landed in NZ close to a month ago now and have been slowly dribbling out videos of the passage while resting and repairing. It’s good stuff but I expect at some point we will get a fast forward and summary of what’s been going on on dry land for the past few weeks.
@@MichaelNNY I am aware how UA-cam and vlogging works. I was commenting on this video though. Thanks.
Stay positive!!!! Great job! I admire you two!!!
All I can say is I'm glad you made it safely to NZ (more or less). What a journey!!!! Hope things are getting better for you now that you're there. Am on tenterhooks to hear/see what's next xo
Guys, I love your videos and your adventures. You two are an inspiration for others to get out and have their own adventures.
Good Morning! I hope the breeze is at your back and the seas are smooth.
Did I hear you say you lost your Life Raft at the very end of this Vlog? Prayers coming your way from Ohio for your Safe passage from this point forward. 🙏🏻👍🤗😎❣️
I'm hooked ..can't wait for next installment. Loving every minute of your adventures. Be safe.
wow that lunch looked delish , thanks for sharing these experiences , you guys are awesome , you will be fine :)
Hi guys! I just stumbled upon your channel a week ago and I’ve been binge watching! Can’t wait to see what happens next! Safe travels in NZ 😃
You both are so positive and fun to watch! Wishing you guys the best of luck! Looking forward to your safe passage!
Great to see your smiling faces, hopefully you'll get that rudder back in operation quick. Take care and Happy Sailing
Love you guys, you bring happiness to my soul! Thank you!🙏
Hello from Florida 😎🌅🌴 enjoy New Zealand so beautiful there have fun warm winds and safe travels.👍🌊☮️
I have seen other videos where the very old and never used life raft was replaced by a new one just to be safe and maybe for regulations. You guys are doing a great job. You have shown great character through this whole COVID ordeal.
the lunch scene reminded me of the classic scene from the movie The Long Long Trailer, with Lucy and Desi Arnez...
😝💙💛💙
Life always throws many challenges which strengthen characters so always look at the brighter side of life the positives and rewards are there for those who chase them. We love your content please keep positive you live the dream.
I been waiting a whole week for this one. Lol ty
Great editing on this one.
Fantastic video. Great insight to some of the trials and tribulations suffered at sea. Awesome! 😀👍
And love and respect from the Netherlands
You can do it ❣️
WOW!! I cannot wait to see THAT video
I always worry about a rogue wave knocking them both in the water. I actually had that nightmare a few weeks ago. Glad to know they are already safe in NZ.
They don't seem to clip-in much.
Great to see the numbers love to see the water temperature, love your attitude, Big hugs 🤗
Keep hangin , luv ur vlogs!!
My office on a Destroyer Escort had filing cabinets welded to the bulkheads. We hit a bad storm and those filing cabinets vibrated off the bulkhead. Love your mother
The best show on the net, you two should be known as splish and splash
Great compilation. Comedy, informative and suspense. Can't wait to see what went down in next episode.
