  • First time fishing for Luderick and to say it was enjoyable was an understatement. The whole preparation from collecting the bait (weed and cabbage) to catching them was a lot of fun. A day to Nelson Bay Breakwall found Jake and myself enjoying a day out catching plenty of these awesome fish. They fight well and are even better on the dinner plate. I hope you enjoy the video :)

First time well done mate. Soon you'll be chasing them with some swell on & get amongst some pigs as well. Then you will know an even better fight & flavor. A couple of hints is to use a small green hook & you will use a lot less bait ( easier for hookups) & grind that weed up into the sand by hand as it stays in suspension & travels further. A little more lead so your float has less resistance to be taken down. You had a great session but it isn't always that easy. Well done.

    Congratulations on your 1st Ludrick.
Tips use way less Cabbage on your hook 🪝.
Luds love it when you use single Cabbage leaf 🍃 .

Most people have given the same comments but much much less weed (I fish the NB breakwall and on a busy day you have to have really finesse your presentation done to a single leaf), have your float just above the water line (the least pressure for them to pull it down as possible) and finally, use Daiichi hooks, size 8 / 10. They pin blackfish so much better than the green mustad ones 🤙😂

Looks like a very artful way of targeting fish. Really interesting 👌 Shame they don't really come up my way. Would really like to try to catch some one day. Might have to travel down south in the future. Well done mate gotta be happy with that effort.

Thanks great vid. I liked the two float stoppers a simple good idea. Can I ask what your landing net handle was made from to make it so long?

Great video and thanks for sharing. Lived here for 35 years and now retired giving me time to fish in my new Hobie Outback. Really enjoy your videos and learning plenty. Lots of great tips and advice to help an old rookie. Many thanks and please keep ‘‘em coming. Cheers

Well done mate! I often see heaps of guy targeting black fish at stockon wall and have always found it an interesting way to fish. I'm glad you show that its very possible with cheap rod and a spin reel no less! Even for a beginner.
Do they taste as good as I have heard?

Nice video and great 1st Luderick. Have you caught a Black drummer? It's like a Luderick only with a few more cylinders, a Supercharger and NOS.
