I have had both for 4-year runs, hemi and 3.5, laramie and lariat both around 40k miles. One I lived in the service dept, the other was just routine service. The Ram had superior styling, inside and out, however, that lived in the service dept for the 4 years and turned into a lemon on 3 separate issues. The lifters, infotainment and suspension were the culprits. i have overloaded both, the Ram listed like a boat with the coils and the F150 took it like a champ. I went back to a F150 and have been happy ever since. I am glad you mentioned reliability at the end, it does make a difference. Great review as always.
Ford has port + direct injection which helps prevent carbon buildup on the intake valves. Ram only has direct injection and will have problems with carbon buildup on the intake valves.
If Ford is smart they won’t get into a spec battle with Ram on power. Instead take a page out of Toyota’s book and focus on reliability. After 15 years in production it’s still a very competitive engine. Its fairly reliable now since there are millions of these engines on the road and the known major problem area is cam phasers which seems to have died down. The Borg Warner turbos seem to easily go 200K if properly maintained.
I would not touch a Ram. I have the Ecoboost 3.5 in my Tremor. It’s powerful, smooth , gets decent mileage, tows like a champ and hasn’t given me any problems. The myth of the Twin turbo is just that. A myth. Dating back to the first and second generation engines. If you maintain it properly it will run a long time. I know a few people who have 250k on their Ford Ecoboosts.
I got rid of mine after it sat at the dealer service dept. waiting on parts for a month! I'm not saying the new twin turbo Ram will be any better, but my 2022 5.7 Hemi is much simpler and the truck does everything better than the Ford especially ride, comfort and driving dynamics!
I doubt it mate, also if they're so good then how come Ford used the 6.8L and 7.3L Godzilla V8s as base gas engines in the Super Duty and not the 3.5L Ecoboost V6?
If people properly maintained their vehicles, then most manufacturers would be reliable. The unreliability we attribute to certain brands has to do with not maintaining them. Ram traditionally had a younger demographic since they were the less expensive option before 2021. Young drivers tend to not maintain their vehicles, then go onto social media to complain about why their vehicles have mechanical issues. There are a few exceptions to this like Land Rover or design issues of certain combinations. But over the last 50 years, manufacturers have gotten good about making vehicles last at least 100k miles.
As far as styling both trucks look sharp. I think the hurricane engine is pretty cool. They are dropping it in alot of vehicles right off the bat instead of phasing it in. If it doesn't prove to have decent reliable Chrysler is in big trouble.
LOL ram didn't even work The kinks out of their 5.7 it's been out for 22 years. What makes you think they'll have all the kinks worked out on an engine they just released within the last year?
Just because an I6 generally is a better layout than a V6 or V8 doesn't mean that every I6 is going to be a great engine. It's a Stellantis product... I have major trust issues with that.
Man was talking how great is the EcoBoost on the Ford was until he got in the Dodge and then realized the Dodge was even better with its first year of having a twin turbo V6 on the Rams so much they can refine on the engines
Hey i like this comparison ben. While the new ram engine is interesting, I wouldn’t put faith in it yet. Too new. These are both very nice trucks, but i have always leaned more towards the ford. We currently have a 2021 expedition with 3.5 and it has been solid, even with over 100k on it.
One more thing as an ecoboost owner. I’d buy the dodge. I don’t think anyone here would believe the amount of time and money dumped into my truck. So I’d take take my chances with the dodge in a heartbeat
I'd say a decent win for ram here. The inline 6 sets it apart. It's like when they set themselves apart (on paper at least) in 2003 when they introduced 340?hp hemi and 5 forward gears. Both these engines should really move the trucks and watch out when aftermarket tuning adds a safe 25% hp and torque.
Put a tune on the ecoboost and it hits hard! The 2020 I had was tuned and would squawk the tires at 45mph when you punched the throttle. Waiting to tune my 2024 😁
Both are nice trucks. Out of my price range, though. If I buy 1/2 ton over a midsize, it will be a lightly optioned base trim 1/2 ton. I prefer the exterior of the Ram, but the Ford is fine. If I am buying a 1/2 ton, it is about function. I am more impressed with the Ford’s payload (200 lbs more) than the Ram. Also, if I buy a 1/2 ton, I will want the larger gas tank size, etc. I care more about function than electronics and aesthetics (they are nice, but not primary in my buying decision). Ford is not known for its reliability, but I am concerned about the 1st year reliability of the Ram engine as well.
I owned a Ford 2015 F150 5.0, I will never buy a Dodge product, but Ford is giving us nothing and just increasing prices. Maybe if Ram is reasonable enough, I will reconsider . 😂
Fords interior is the same as my 22 XLT. Exterior mild refresh i guess. Funny that RAM used to make fun of ford for the ecoboost and now theyre following them.
They had to at some point. After millions in carbon credits putting 700hp+ in everything they made, they had no choice but to. Can blame retarded lawmakers.
Both good trucks, but ford needs to have a look at the interiors and try to get away from all the hard shiny plastic. Awful interior compared to the dodge imo
I just ordered a half ton with a turbo six cylinder. But I never even wasted my time looking at Ford or Ram. I went with a GMC Sierra SLT with the 3.0L Duramax diesel.
@@MrMcIntyre1220 Already had my nasty experiences with Ford and Ram. 26 years of owning GM trucks and only a couple of minor hiccups with the two oldest ones. The newer ones have been totally trouble free. And don't even get me started on Toyota troubles that are just beginning.
When things come down to horsepower and torque…then you need to configure in gear ratios and vehicle weight ….im not sure if the 2025 ram is like ford with the aluminum body…but if so then comes down to the axle ratios. A 3.21 to a 3.92…big difference off the line up to about 60

Yeah the F-150 rides stiffer or more "truck-like" on purpose.
This is not a Hemi and completely different power train.
I'm not sure about either, but the Ram trucks with the HO Hurricane are rockets! 540 horsepower and 520 Torque was a real shocker!
Ben has all the 25 Ram content…. Crushing it Ben!

Hurricane looks fun, but I'll give it some time to prove itself. Ecoboost is a known quantity at this point.
Yea, known for being a poorly engineered pile of shit
Exactly
Been out for 3 years now. And FCA tested the shit out of it. They even tested it on a Nurburgring dyno tester like the Porsche 911 GT3 engine.
