I like that you're normalizing men crying. I felt like a loser for tearing up so much throughout my life until I learned how to accept that I feel and express emotions more intensly than other men. I think she spoke the truth though, I feel a lot of men me included feel like Cody and we rarely cry on occasion or try to hold it In and when you see some emotional stuff it can move you unexpectedly
I relate to Cody so much. Sometimes things are so damn hard. You do what you can to keep going, try to be cold so that you can keep moving forward. But these moments where you feel empathy because of all the things that you’re sad about as well just come to a head and it’s like “well fuck”

Women don't usually have the luxury of springing a leak during their wedding. Nearly all brides wear makeup; you don't want to look jacked in your wedding photos, the whole event and the photography is fucking expensive and there are no do-overs. Even my aunt had makeup on and that was literally the only day of her life she wore makeup!
Still, if I saw my husband break down like that and wasn't psychologically prepared for it then I guess I would just have to accept the video of me at my friggin wedding with black streaks running down my face 😭😐 I am sure I'd think it was so sweet until I saw the goddamn wedding album.

I unironically can’t stomach people’s videos of them losing their pets. I lost a cat in the most horrific way in my childhood and any pet loss videos I go out of my way to avoid. It’s not healthy but it helps me
People don't seem to understand this deep affection for animals. I'm with you, anything to do with animal pain, loss, suffering etc I can't stand. It literally breaks my soul. Humans, babies, weddings though - nup! It takes a hell of a lot to make me feel anything! It does happen, but it's rare.

They're treated better than the farmers wife!

I’m the same as Kelsey, especially when I’m with other people who are going through tough situations. I cry a lot for brief intervals at minor things, but that allows me to be not as pent-up, and more emotionally present, for those who need composed compassion.
I was dry eyed until the tiktok about the grandpa who wrote a book cracked me. My grandpa is a Holocaust survivor and we’ve been trying to talk to him about writing a book since forever. He’s my favorite human and the thought of him not being here some day always fucks me up.
I watched a video a few years ago about this guy getting people to interview people closest to them (like their moms or twins) and it was amazing. I can't seem to find that original video, but it makes me think that you should get him to talk about his experiences and record them. Or interview him. It would be a nice way to preserve a piece of him that's just between you and him!

I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t realize crying was “weird” for men because my dad would show emotion my whole life and no one said that he shouldn’t do that. Like every event he cried, and that was normal in my family. So once I started observing men not showing emotion, it really confused me because I couldn’t see anything wrong with it. We need to normalize men crying and showing emotion because holding things in is really damaging

Yup. My brother grew up mostly around me and my sister and he’s more emotional than us (not in a bad way bcs me and my sister barely cry). for all the jokes about cody's lack of emotional vulnerability, i will say that this is actually a generally healthy way to engage with your feelings. obviously you should always be working towards honing ways to confront distressing things head on but there is nothing wrong with distracting/distancing when it feels too difficult. it's not healthy to overwhelm yourself and finding accessible ways to release emotion is a self-regulation skill!
Yes and at the end of the day we will never know the extent to which someone processes their emotions. The things I laugh about are things I also can't handle thinking about some days. A healthy detachment is just that so long as we... etc.. neurotypical etc. etc. But right there! Neurotypical. We don't like to see a detached person because we worry about antisocials.. about whether we're safe around them. Whether they're safe.. This has been a tangent that I'd like to end with: the way in which one emotes does not deem them healthy or unhealthy... safe or unsafe. No one can make such concrete assumptions. Are certain actions signs that one is "unhinged" even dangerous? Technically. They're also signs of about a million other ways of being and feeling that are just as loveable and valid.
