I’m loving the “Live” shows! Although I can’t attend I’m watching them later on UA-cam. Two things I’ve done that have helped me tremendously with my photography (as I’m a Video and Voice Engineer by trade and have a full time job). 1. Take formal classes. Once my youngest completed college, I decided to pursue a 2 year degree in photography at my local community college. This was huge! The process helped me really learn every aspect of my camera; how to read lighting situations; how to set up a studio; shoot sports; shoot portraits; master LR and PS; print; and many more things. So many different shooting/editing projects each semester really helped build my confidence and skill set. Having my work critiqued by professionals was super beneficial too. 2. Shoot what you like and shoot for you. So many people shoot for the acceptance of others. I shoot for me. This means you have to identify what’s important to you. For so long I shot weddings because others told me I was really good at wedding photography. Sure, it paid well but I wasn’t happy shooting weddings so now I don’t. I like portraits and glamour photography and that’s what I pursue. This keeps me amped about getting better and better. So when my job sends me all over the country, I try to book a local model on each trip. Really helped me shoot such a wide range of model types and ethnicities in vastly different settings. On a recent trip to Vegas, I booked a local model and we shot in Red Rock Canyon. Got some great images! It’s very easy to get lost in photography if you’re trying to keep up with the latest gear or trying to be what you think others want you to be. Learn your equipment and then use it to shoot the type of photography you like. I’m a Sony Alpha 99 MK-II shooter. My go-to lens is my Zeiss 24-70, and I have a Zeiss 85mm, a Zeiss 135mm and a Sony G-Series 70-200. I have a couple lighting kits I use when I travel, and I rent studio space (here in Virginia) when I want to do studio work. My work may not be what others like, and I’m fine with that. I’m excited about my photography and editing skills, and that’s what’s important. Wouldn’t be where I am without PHLEARN - so thank you! Keep up the outstanding work!

I shot cars in a badly lit museum, and found that frequency separation as used for skin retouching, worked on removing all the odd reflections and spotlight beams on the paintwork
