    Great detailed video. You have given me the confidence to give it a crack. The reason im going to try clean the carb is because the idling fluctuates from perfect to almost dying, and also if I tilt the bike too much to the left or right the idling dramatically drops. So hopefully after a clean it runs as good as yours.

    Hi mate. Great video and good detailed explanation. Easy to follow. I have issue with my youngest boy ttr50 which wont start. I checked all 4 things-and did the proper carb cleaning, but it still wont start. Tried also with pushing the bike with mu son on it on 2nd gear for a while and still no luck. Thing to mention is that the bike start having issues after i gave it a wash. Also had to use some cheap oil to top it up once as the kid droped it and some oil came up from air filter, so as a quick fix i just add some 10w40 oil. Shortly after i changed the oil with proper one, but wondrring if this might be the issue. My spark plug is kind of black and woild replace it tomorrow once shops are open. Do those pistons have rings? My next sugestion is to go for new piston rings if the issue is with the compresion. Any other suggestions? Bike was running for 2 years without any issues.

      If you checked the plug by grounding it on the engine and looking at the spark then that's likely not the issue. If there's no spark at all or it's very dim, that's a possibility. Being as the issues started after the washing, it's possible some of the electrical connections are corroded or maybe something caused a short. Check the engine shut off switch and the ignition switch mainly.
      When you say "top it off" after losing some oil, did you fill the engine or did you use the dipstick to check proper level? Too much oil can create too much pressure and cause issues.
      The piston does have rings- before ordering a replacement set you can either buy or rent a compression tester from an auto parts store.
      I hope this helps. It's hard to diagnose a bike through comments but I try :) Good luck!!

      @alexdombi-weridetwo @alexdombi-weridetwo hi. Thanks for the quick reply. I don't believe the wash is the issue-as the electric start is engaging as usual.
      I am thinking to get a new spark tomorrow and let's see if anything would change. As mentioned earlier, the spark looks a bit black and kind of oily.
      When I topped it of course I was checking with the dip stick not to add more than it should. What would.you consider too much oil? I know they use around 800ml, but would you think if I added 900 which would be at the top part of the dip stick could cause any damage and what?
      I also don't believe it is the compression as when I try to manually start the bike by putting it on 2nd gear and spin the rear wheel by hand it is giving me a good resistance.
      Also maybe worth to mention is that as the exhaust is off at the moment due to cleaning the carb, when I try to start the bike using the electric start I see some traces of vapor like a smoke coming out from the exhaust hole of the engine and I also can smell the petrol.
      I understand that is not easy to diagnose without being present and I appreciate all your help and suggestions. You are my best helper so far and I will keep you updated how it goes when I get a new spark tomorrow. Thank you again for replying so quick.

      You said the plug was black and oily, but did you check it for spark where you can visibly inspect the arcing of current?
      Hopefully replacing the plug will get it back running.
      As you mentioned the exhaust is currently off, is the airbox also off? Sometimes having the air box off or filter removed will cause there to be too much airflow and won't allow the fuel to ignite.

      @alexdombi-weridetwo I was checking for spark with spark plug out and grounded to the cylinder head. I couldn't see a spark as it was daytime, but I felt electrocuted so I assumed there is some spark.
      And the airfilter box and airfilter oiled were back in place when tried to start it.

      Got new spark plug today. The bike started first time. The moral is: electrocuted doesn't mean there is a actual spark :) thanks again. Going soon for brand new ttr 110 for my oldest son. Hopefully similar easy maintenance as ttr 50. All the best!

    Nice video! There's so much fuel line from cap and connects to something... what do you think of the fuel vent line with cap it's about 2 inches of tube Wyeth a cap that connects to gas cap?

    • @alexdombi-weridetwo
      @alexdombi-weridetwo  Місяць тому +1

      Thanks for the kind words. I run the short vent lines with the check valve on many of my other bikes. On kids bikes that often end up on the side, having the long vent lines keeps the fuel away from the rider (usually). But generally speaking the short lines are fine to use.

    • @masterkilla77
      @masterkilla77 Місяць тому

      @alexdombi-weridetwo good point. Would I simply just disconnect the first portion, cap to whatever it connects to on ttr50? It seems like it has alot of tubing!

    • @alexdombi-weridetwo
      @alexdombi-weridetwo  Місяць тому +1

      If I remember correctly the vent line goes to a port attached on the frame just under the tank. If you plan is to replace it with a short vent line you can just pull the fuel tank off which is just a couple bolts and disconnect it from that port. There's not really a need to plug it since it's just an open tube frame for drainage and venting air.

      @@alexdombi-weridetwo Funny you said that... I got a free homlite (older usa made one) weedeater 5 years ago that had a bogging issue. I tried everything... Long story... but not sure why, I decided to check the spark arrester. It was clogged with carbon. I threw it in the garbage and it ran perfect after. You could also throw it in some gas and clean it if you want to re use it... Hope that helps.

    • @alexdombi-weridetwo

      The choke plunger just slides back in and then is threaded in. Check at @4:52 to see how I removed it. This one had a stuck plunger that I got out with a little carb cleaner. Going back in it should just slide in the opposite as removal.

    When routing the throttle cables back from the carb to the throttle, do the cables cross over to the right hand side of the bike and pass through steel condute holder attached to the bike then up through the neck and over the handle bars?? Or back up through the lefthand side through the neck etc.. the first senario i suggested seems logical but the cables seem a little tight. Ive brought a second hand carb and throttle assembly which is a completely different carb to what was on the bike, duel cable. So unfamiliar with setup but its the same carb and cable as the one you have installed.

    • @alexdombi-weridetwo
      @alexdombi-weridetwo  Рік тому

      I wish I could send pictures to help with this! If you look at 5:57 in the video, you can see the cables are routed through the cable ring on the right side of the backbone and then up in front of the bars to the throttle. You do need to make sure there isn't extra tension between the cable ring and the tube- as much slack as possible there to prevent binding.
      Hopefully that helps a little

      @@alexdombi-weridetwo yeah ok thanks for that, i think where on the same page, pretty sure ive got it right. Just to me it looked like if i ran them down the left side instead of the right the cables would be more relaxed and on the right approach to the carb, but theres no cable ring on that side to support it. Algood thank you for the quick response🙂

      If it leaks when you turn the fuel on then the float valve needs to be replaced. It's what stops the fuel at the right level. If it doesn't, it'll flood the engine with fuel and it won't start. Look for an All Balls Carb rebuilt kit.

    3:05 how did you slide the carburetor off after taking clamp off ? Just by pulling it out ?

      Yes, once the intake clamp is loose, the carb should slide out.

      It runs up over the carb, along the topside of the air box and back towards the rear wheel. It's a vent line.

    • @alexdombi-weridetwo
      @alexdombi-weridetwo  Рік тому

      It was actually just stuck in the carb body- the plunger pulls right out. The cable is held in the plunger with a slot/insert. If yours is stuck and you're doing a full rebuild hit it with WD40 and it should slide right out. ;)
