I think this is the best adaptation. The actors are perfect for their roles and so sad the despair of the mother wanting her son to return.
Thank you for posting. This was somehow calming to watch. We need more quality classics on YT :)
The solid acting makes this horror story succeed. This is one of the best live action versions I've seen so far of Monkey's Paw.
So, he came back as an invisible ghost? Not sure I picked up on the ending's narrative..?
@@oriongameplays8509 In the original short story, the son returns in human form, but deceased, like the walking dead.
@@BlackArroToons That's what I was expecting to see but in turn i really dont know what they were portraying here..
@@oriongameplays8509 Good point. I wonder if they ran out of time or money to bring in the son with ghastly make up, who I believe was mangled by the machinery at his place of work sadly due to the bad luck wish.
@@BlackArroToons Yeah, or couldnt keep the actor on location for long enough maybe?
I remember watching this in school and it freaked me out. Especially when the ghost of the son comes back and is beating on the door to be let in. This version doesn't end like I remember. He comes back beats on the door and is screaming. When they look out of the window the porch swing is going crazy. His parents fight over the door. The father wishes his son back to the grave.
The best part is the author never specify what was behind that door. An unknown entity invited by the White's grief for their son, even Mr.White described the visitor as "It" not "My Son"
100% me too
Very good adaptation. The story contains several chilling lines:
'The last wish was for death' 'He is not feeling any pain'.
Many thanks for the upload of this brilliant adaptation of a brilliant story by W.W. Jacobs which is probably one of the most anthologised short stories in the English language. I remember watching this film on Channel Four about thirty years ago with my baby daughter cradled in my arms. Best wishes Villiago
Thanks for you kind words Villiago
Brilliantly filmed, the most chilling version of this story I've ever seen on film, I remember watching it on channel 4, I taped it and played it to friends until it wore out and eventually found a bootleg dvd (sorry) online, superb acting and the whole colour palette adds to the overall mood and claustrophobic feel, brilliant job...
Nicely done. I have known this story since I was very young, it still gives me goosebumps.
Yes, the best adaptation of a classic among classics.
Gotta do some a school assignment on this so im reviewing right now
By far the best interpretation of this. It’s very spooky. I just wish the audio was better
I wish (no pun intended) I knew what Morris and the first man wished... I know it's much better not to know, to maintain the suspense, but still...
If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding. How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?
Been looking for this for years...ahhhhhh, brings back the fondest memories from advanced English in 9th grade.
Did you English teacher play it to you....most yeachets are idiots but yours sounds cool
@@curiositypiqued6573 yes, he played it to us after we read it. 🙂
Damn I'm getting it in 8th grade
That poor family.
watching this at x2 speed for school
it's pretty funny haha
Watching this for an assignment my horrible ELA teacher is making me do.
Lol same advanced ela 8th grader
Same 🙃
Same I hate my advance 8 grade ela teacher
Funny. Our teacher made us watch, of mice and men. This movie, is morbid, to me. Maybe if I understood the message behind it.
Creepy but Awesome 👌💀✊️
For those of you who are puzzled about the ending, the son was mangled. When he came back because the mother was desperate to see him, the father realized their son would be returning in a mangled state. The father didn't want his wife to see their son terribly mangled. This the third wish.
Bro didn't want to be scarred for life
I wonder why he didn't use the 3rd wish for his son to be his son looking like before
Thank you for upload.
Very well done, thanks for upload!
Very well done 👏🏽
Very well done👍
buyer beware. do not make open ended wishes. that will always end badly for all those involved.
There is a Nepalese folklore originating from Mustang. It's about a mummified monkey paw that posses special powers to fulfill the wishes of the one who owns it. A movie by the name of 'kagbeni' (कागबेनी) was also made.
die geschichte war auf deutsch in einem reclam heftchen in den späten 70ern und sie war sehr gut durchdacht. it was perfectly thought about to make sense. if anyone of my school had written a non realistic story, the end was alwas "there was a noise, i woke up. it was the alarm clock and all had been a dream!"
The last one with the hairdresser was one of my favorite repos, although I don't think it was necessary to pepper-spray her. She opposed no physical threat to them, and they can't just pepper-spray someone just because she refuses to give them the keys to her car.
I complet your 1k subscriber.
I remember seeing this when it was on television in the 1980s. I thought it was very well done and chilling. Where did you find it? I’ve searched for it before but without luck until now.
Thank for your kind comments. It was my film school graduation film made at the London College of Printing in 1984, which I subsequently sold to Channel 4 in 1988
Andy
@@andygb2000 I had no idea. You managed to get some well-known actors involved. I had been looking for it as a Tales Of The Unexpected episode, as a Hammer House Of Horror instalment and as part of other series like Dead Of Night, not knowing it was a stand-a-lone piece. The image of the swinging gate in the early autumn morning stayed with me.
@@tomflint8673 Thank you so much. It's good to know that you've remembered it for over 30 years. As a Hammer Horror fan I'm also very happy to hear that you may have mistaken it for a Hammer House of Horror episode.
Thankyou
Honestly I would love to just hold the Monkey Paw, be it's Keeper and Preserver, just to see and write down the unfortunate events that befall those who attempt to use it for fortune.
anyone from reading class?? lol
The whole character of Morris could be discussed.
He comes across as strange, we have no idea what his wishes were but I would surmise his 3rd wish was to pass the horror onto another.
The paw leads him to the most naive people he knows... he doesn't try and stop them from taking the paw, but also warns them.
He knew full well what he was doing. His motivations lie both with his inner desire and the paw's power
The first man wished for death which is how Morris got the paw, I wonder if he killed the man to fulfil his wish
That *IS* the actor who played the Teacher in _Pink Floyd: The Wall,_ isn't it?
It is!
good....but 2 suggestions pls add subtitles. also there is a lot of static in the background...
When you get what you want you hate it
yay!
Nice story 🐵🐵
So, he came back as an invisible ghost? Not sure I picked up on the ending's narrative..?
basically we aren't fully shown what he comes back as in the film, however the husband didnt want to see him as he was too scared of what he might look like
nice sotoriy'S
What is the music called i like it
Darude - Sandstorm
Similarities to Eno's Aragon from Music For Films, but only the director will know
Much better
I think it was just bad luck with the 200 pounds out of all other senerios like the lottery, his son dies
I don't know the ending what was happen, only know the paw has been burn and son hasn't come alive again wtf was it
Lots of mumbling.
The end don't make sense
