Man I like how a lot of these people are here because of school. I'm just here because I like the concept of it, it's really interesting and I feel like it'd be more enjoyable for most viewers if they weren't doing this for an English assignment. I'm not hating on anyone because they are doing this just for school, but I just feel like more people will enjoy learning about this concept of they actually had an interest in the consequences of wishing.
I'm here with you. Apparently most of them are in 8th grade, which this short film is something that I would expect to have had to watch for my perspectives in literature class in uni. I mean, at least we're moving up in what we expect from them.
We read this in school around 1970. I’ll never forget the conversation that took place concerning the teacher asking, “Who was at the door?” One of the smartest students (among around 300 total in our grade) said, “The monkey.” The teacher asked, “What monkey?” The girl then said she had read the story three times and concluded it was the monkey coming back to get its paw. On on hand I felt good about knowing the real answer but, felt even better about knowing what the girl erringly thought it meant and the teacher being totally clueless about her answer.
If this wasn’t an English assignment and someone wanted to actually make this a legitimate movie, this would actually be an extremely creepy thing to make in a movie
@@robinabernathy2829 I remember a TV production of this way back in the 1970s. I'm willing to bet the story has been filmed before that, it is a classic story after all!
@@ggewk for using an emoji in your comment, I suppose that you're one of the 8th graders that had to watch this as an assignment. Not to gatekeep or anything, but I don't expect you to understand this short film, or the fact that it's a faithful recreation of the original work, and why that matters.
This is cool and all but they shouldn't have shown the corpse of the son walking outside, because that needs to be ambiguous. Part of the reason this story is so scary is that we, as the audience, don't know whether the paw really is granting wishes or maybe it is all a coincidence.
The story drops hints that it isnt a coincidence, such as the graveyard being two miles away, the knocking being stopped the second the father made his third wish, its only mr white that tries to excuse these events as coincidence but by the end he knew it was real otherwise he wouldnt have made that third wish
@@FimbongBass There is a difference between intellectually knowing something and instinctually believing it. While we may think something makes sense, sometimes our brains choose to believe something else anyway simply because it is easier - more comfortable - to do so. Mr. White, for example, probably knew the Monkey's Paw was actually effective, but did not want to believe it because it's so much easier to attribute the death of his son to coincidence. Otherwise, he'll constantly blame himself for the death of his son. He is, one can say, in a state of denial.
W W Jacobs wrote this story in 1902. I read a book of his short stories when I was a boy back around 1960. This film reminded me of it, otherwise I might never have thought of that book again.
It's amazing how well the original tale has lasted and how influential it's been in many works. I'm glad my film brought a memory of it back to you. Give it a read when you can!
Morris' three wishes: 1) To leave the war. He was wounded by having his balls shot off and sent home. 2) For his wife to be more beautiful. She died, but the funeral director was a brilliant artist and embalmer. 3) To never be tied down to one place. He was framed for a murder and has been on the run from the police ever since.
Back in the early 70s, I remember one of my teachers read this story to the class during recess. I was about 10 or 11 years old. As much as I enjoyed the story, it made my blood run cold. One of the scariest short stories ever, but also one of my favorites.
Correction: "Be careful of what you wish for, because you might just get it, but with a way to get it" I know it almost sounds the same as yours and the last part doesn't really go much with the video but I wanted to correct it a bit and I hope you understand
I am 33 now. Still I remember this story when I was in 11th grade my English sir Veerabaghu told this story. How nicely he narrate this story. It's far better to hear this story more than that watching when you have a good narrator!!
I remember my fifth grade teacher telling me this tale over twenty years ago and I never forgot it. This is the first time I've seen a film adaptation of it and I think this is very good. Only a few things were off; the Whites were an elderly couple with an adult son and I think the actors playing them were a bit young for the part. And Mr. White asked for 200 pounds, not 300 :) And although the story never did say the price for the third wish, I believe it might be Mrs. White dying of grief.
I like how there is an ending in the book/story it ends when the wife opens the door to nobody but in the movie a year passes wife passed husband heartbroken freezes himself to death
I love this because it depicts the era when there were no TVs, no phones, leave alone cell phones.... when nature prevailed and technology was not even in the sight.

Wow, what a fantastically detailed version!!! This is wonderfully true to the original. I just read this story today with my 7th grade classes, and am thrilled to have such a high quality video to show them! Well done!!
Why does everyone watch this for an assignment but I watch it because my English teacher recommended it?! Well I mean everything starts with an English teacher 😂
I remember my 6th grade teacher Mrs Boch at Etiwanda jr high in the early 1980’s reading us this story, and just being totally engulfed within it! Years later when I was trying to find it, I kept looking for it but thought it was written by Edgar Allen Poe, it has Poe written all over it! But finally learned it was not EAP, and found it. I remember thinking that it was much shorter than I remember,,,,in my memory, it was longer,,, anyways, still creeps me out all these years later!
I was watching an old Tales from the Crypt and this title came up. Like many others, I read this MANY years ago! I agree the parents in this production are too young or the son is too old and the closed captioning are abominable. But the production is BRILLIANT! I wish this was available when I was a kid, but we barely had electricity way back then! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for the tip on the captions. I'll have someone look into it. Possible they've been edited without my knowledge. Happened before.
Tay Jackson in the story it says the wind was making faint knocks on the door. All of this could have been a coincidence and that he died by mistake and they coincidentally gave him the amount of money they wanted. Then he wished his son was back and the wind was at the door and Mr. White then wished his son to leave and then the wind stopped blowing. All of it could have been a coincidence of events.

I did a play based on this story and I was a sound effects person during all the sounds like thunder, storm, and even a clock chime. I have won a national award for this production!
Okay, so I've read this story ik my elder sister's book and not only that but the summary by her, the summary of the book, anywhere and the whole story and watched this with her eagerly. I loved this story, literature is indeed so damn good, and these stories don't even feel like we're studying them, it's just presented in an amazing manner. This short video is by far the best one for this story. Yeah, the actors weren't that great and the fainting scene was funny and the dead Herbert shouldn't have been shown but that's what tje imagination of the director and idk but I genuinely wanted to see how did Herbert looked like when he arrived in the night. But anyway, thankyou for making this short video story for the actual story. It's awesome.✨
Thank you so much! If I could make it again there would be things I’d do differently with hindsight but there was still enough you were able to enjoy it.
You guys are here just for assignment, I just searched this up to know if any animation exists. Much delighted to see real movie thing. It's among the best stories I've ever read.
I have been using the story The Monkey's Paw in my ESL classes for the last 5 years. Then I found your short film of it. You did an outstanding job in your treatment of the story and managed to scare the Hell out my students without reverting to stomach churning details like in the Saw franchise. You did it through great writng, production design, a wonderful sound score and fine acting from all concerned. You keep making them and I'll keep buying and/or watching them!
Bro, this is the first time I watched this after when my class and I read the story, and for me I didn’t understand it well when we read it, but now watching the short film totally scared me and almost made me cry at the end. 😢
In my 3rd block English class, we read this story for Halloweeen, and my English teacher showed us both the "Tales from the Crypt" version, and this version. I liked this one. It's neatly done.

I don't have to do this as an assignment. I just really enjoyed it.
Presentation is outstanding. A salute is due.
Thanks! I return the salute!
I just read it in my English book
Who else found it due to it?
Perfect example for this story is every action has its own reaction
I did a play based on this story and I was a sound effects person during all the sounds like thunder, storm, and even a clock chime.
I have won a national award for this production!
Awesomeness! Congratulations! Would love to hear it.
@@rickylewisjr Thanks!
Shout out to my students who visits the comment section to search for an answer🤣
This is the freakier version of our English text that we read
Highly appreciationdirection of such great movie
Very kind, thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm watching this for the exam. Anyone else who is watching this year??
Awesome! Exactly as I hoped many would react.
Stephen King has said that The Monkey's Paw was his inspiration for Pet Sematary.

my english 8th grade teacher really made me do an assignment comparing the book and the movie anyone what’s the difference between the characters 😭

In my 3rd block English class, we read this story for Halloweeen, and my English teacher showed us both the "Tales from the Crypt" version, and this version. I liked this one. It's neatly done.
Appreciate it! Hope you revisit with a watch again.
@@rickylewisjr Oh, no problem!
