Announced in 2017, the Audi RS4 Avant has finally made its way to South Africa. The big news is that the naturally aspirated V8 is out, and the new VW Group 2.9-litre V6 is in.
In some ways the change was inevitable and in many ways the V8 will be missed. But there are some advantages to the new twin turbo powerplant: it's lighter, so the front-end is a bit more sprightly. And its torquier - a lot torquier. 600 of Newton's metres are now force-fed into the quattro drivetrain and the results are...interesting.
In this video, Ciro De Siena takes the newcomer to a secret testing facility outside of Cape Town for a thorough shakedown.

Great review of a great car. Can you believe we don't get the RS4 and RS6 in the Avant body in the States? I have a 2018 S3 in Ara Blue, APR Stage II with downpipe and Carbon intake, so a little flyer! I also have a 2018 SQ5 and cannot wait for APR to break the code and be able to flash the computer. The S cars, 4 series, 6 series and Q series with this V6 only come with a twin scroll turbo instead of twin turbos like in the RS series.
What you forgot to mention is that the twin turbos sit between the V of the V6, just the opposite of convention. I'm a subscriber, keep up the great review.

They never made a V10 Manual RS6 but I do wish they still made manual RS4’s

This and the Rs6 are both the best for me you, don't have to have kids to drive this it's a beauty

If I had the money, I'd take this over the M3, C63 or Quadrifoglio. Just because a) I'm a very average driver so that 4wd is necessary, and b) that avant bodystyle is gorgeous!
I'll console myself over the lack of C63 V8 noise and M3 track pace by not crashing first time I floor it out of a corner hahaha
@Nick yep, so the new Lamborghinis, m5, E63 amg, bentley, most luxury SUVs and bakkies and other 4wd drive cars are for people who cant modulate throttle and traction or girls?

I love torque so this one is a win for the turbos.
I would use a vbox or something better than looking at camera footage to measure the 0-100 time.

How is this even possible? All the stock Audi RS4’s in Europa are all pushing between 3,7 and 3,9 seconds in dry conditions.
Ps; Are there maybe some down-grades on the car for the South African temperatures?
This is 100KM you comparing 60 miles which is less than 100KM
I know, but it’s not that much of a difference. Carwow did 0-60 mph in 3,5 seconds with the RS4.
60mph = 96,56 kmh.
So believe me, it will push between 3,7 and 3,9 seconds to 100kmh in dry conditions!
Maybe they downgraded it because of cost cutting
Maybe the time is also not very precise, he measured it with his laptop and slowed the frames, better use a “performance box” based on GPS, much preciser!
Was this test at sea level or in Johannesburg? I see GP number plates.

Sadly these cars have become bout the stat sheets only and not the actual intangibles. Gone are the blissful sounding V8 and present is still the awful terminal understeer. Its just all about the 0 to 100km which is sad
Blake Swan The rs4 has to be pushed to its limits to actually present understeer. Same with the RS3, newer Audi’s do not present understeer in the slightest

AMG takes first place for me but between this and an M3... the RS4 definitely (Because it doesn’t look like a fancy Lexus which we all know is just a fancy Toyota)
