Hi Max. I just got an Ibanez Jem 555 and came across your video. Very nice explanation and better playing. I was wondering...Would you have the tabs and/or backing track for what you played from 6:24? I would love to learn it.
Hey man, thanks for your comment and glad to hear you liked my playing! Unfortunately I haven't got any tabs for it... But if you like the track, make sure to subscribe to my channel because I'm actually bringing that track back, in an improved version, for my next video. I'll try to get some tabs together for it as well. Thanks again!
I'm not sure to be honest, I've not played a recent JEM Jr. I would say it's likely any current production model would be better than this particular JEM 555 if only because of its condition, but if I were buying one I'd probably find a JEM Jr in a store so I could try it out, which isn't likely to be possible with a JEM 555. Thanks for watching!
2008 555 will have the Dimarzio Evolution pickups and the Jem profile neck. 2018 Jr is fitted with Quantum (White) or Infinity (Pink or Yellow) pickups and the Wizard 2 neck. The 555 is closer to the Japanese 7VWH in these respects and so is potentially the better guitar. Some will argue Korean build quality is better than Indonesian but I think both can vary. Both guitars have low/mid spec Tremolo units. 2008 555 has the Edge 3, which is renowned for poor tuning stability. The 2018 Jr is equipped with the Standard DL Trem, which is not great either - just newer and possibly less worn. Each of these Trems will wear over time to produce tuning instability issues. A realtively easy thing to swap though. The 2018 Jr has the full Tree of Life (ToL) inlay and was available in 3 colours: White, Pink & Yellow. The 2022 Jr is now available in Black. The 2008 555 has the less pleasing 1/2 ToL and was only available in Black or White. Either guitar can be fantastic with a decent set-up. If you can't do it yourself it's worth paying for a local guitar tech to do it for you. You'd be buying either of those models used , so buy the one in the best condition/at the best price and enjoy!
It looks and sounds pretty good ! All in all these are pretty decent guitars...
Time to restore the ole' 555 BK I have lying around here !
I bought mine in 2010 and still rocking
blu knobs and picks looks perfect
I have a white Jem 555 and I love it, it's been with me for the past 14 years, and the story of how I got it is pretty much the same as yours 😂
Sounds lovely.
