Nine Inch Nails - We're In This Together | Cover by Bloodmeridian
Since 1989 I've been a huge fan of Trent Reznor, from his powerful and expansive body of work with Nine Inch Nails to his recent award-winning film scores. The album The Fragile remains, to me, one of his crowning achievements, and among its strongest tracks is We're In This Together, a track that embodies Reznor's genius at taking eerie, edgy, off-kilter and sinister elements and crafting them into a catchy and accessible song that feels lean even though it clocks in at over seven minutes.
I haven't strayed too far from the original arrangement because I feel that when you're covering a song, unless you're completely reinventing it, if you stray too far from the blueprint you risk losing some of what makes it work. Either way, when you're dealing with Nine Inch Nails, it's very difficult to imagine what could make it any better than it is.
I hope you enjoy this video.

I took steel wool to my poly finish. It took the shine off and it looks much better to me, however no one else will probably notice the difference. Relics look good but I would feel silly buying one.

The Plexi sounds lightyears better. Most of the garbage we hear about amps is pure marketing noise. Almost every metal amp used today is a Plexi-clone. I'd buy a Plexi and use a REVV Mauler or G3 pedal over a Victory any day.

Great review, you covered so many aspects of this amp, well done! The first time I got one of these amps it did not sound that rich or full and seemed a bit thin. I did some searching on Google and came across tube Bias recommendations for these amps. Apparently the amps are sold with tubes Biased on the cold side, thus causing sound degradation. For my amp changing the Bias to run the tubes hotter helped a lot, a simple fix but still an added expense if you cannot do it yourself. These amps seem to do quite well with JJ Eurotubes 6L6's Biased to their recommendation. Something to consider if one owns this amp, it may make the difference in keeping it or not.

I don't care about what the plastic feels like. These are such unimportant details. I care about the sound and play-ability. If you can save me a few grand by making the tone knobs... out of another type of plasic... I really don't care. To the eyes it still looks the same to the audience and the sound is all they care about. The wood has little effect on the tone of an electric guitar, that only affects acoustics which, this is not an acoustic guitar and never was. So once again we boil back down to bullshit and amount people are willing to pay for bullshit just so they can tell people "it's 1958 genuine" to which literally no one but a few guitar collectors or Mark Agnesi of Gibson will care about. Epiphone makes great guitars on the same specs and designs at a fraction of the cost by eliminating this elitist bullshit about the materials. You're better off just finding a REAL '58 Les Paul if you want that. Why pay more than a used car costs for an "almost perfect replica" of a '58 LP? I mean, am I blind or does the world need bifocals?

problem with the amp is the speaker and the lack of a way to cut the mids , most folks looking for the fender black face tone get it in part with a strat not a les paul , if you have this amp a eq petal is a great way to make it shine , or even a drive pedal with mid control make the pedal transparent then scoop the mids ...

Can't stand these absolute 💩 ! Tried 5 of these for gigging with 3 piece band in small clubs . The best one lasted 6 weekends ! 😮 The worst one died 3 songs into first set 😅 Yes it says Fender on it , has tubes in it , but that don't mean it's any good. Walked away from Fender 20 years ago , life's good . If anything is that great , I don't need advertisements to tell me something is good , other musicians will tell me . Never heard a good thing about these from real musicians . Overdrive channel sounds like pissed off wasps in a bag ! 😂 Don't waste your time nor dough ! 💸💸😢

I really don’t understand why everyone thinks a strat has to be the way it was originally intended. The guitar is not the pickups. It’s the shape and the feel that makes it great. A strat is the ultimate guitar to modify and make your own.

I remember when 'vintage' guitars started to become collectable in the mid to late 80s, here in Australia. Before that, they were just 'old guitars' to most. But then came the boom, and prices blew out as investors started to buy them up. the most sought after back then were L series strats, and Les Pauls from around 59 etc with the tiger sunburst finish. Naturally it escalated, and as some guitars became unaffordable to most of us, other more affordable but less sought after guitars went up in value. Fake relic'd guitars were simply NOT a thing back in the 80's at all, or for most of the 90s from what I remember. Man, you'd have been ridiculed to relic a guitar back then.

Nice review even if Hagstrom are paying for it. However I think the tailpiece is too big and ugly on all of their guitars but that’s just an opinion on the cosmetics. Neck dive is the other issue. Thanks for mentioning it.

Good relic guitars feel better, play better and sound better than their shiny counterparts. The main purpose of varnish is to protect the instrument, but it also muffles resonance and makes them feel sticky. Great relics are great players, you can take them to rehearsals or gigs without much worry. Nowadays a pre-CBS Strat is worth tens of thousands. They are simply too valuable to leave the house with, for mere mortals that is.

I been building them now for years and still live them just like the first day I ever learned of them. People need to not worry about what other people want to do with their money cause your opinions don't matter at the end of the day. I always hear oh that's a poser guitar lol no it's not cause I never heard of anyone saying I played this for 50 years have you lol.

I have a nice CHIBSON Les Paul standard and have done things to it that I would NEVER do to ANY Gibson, like shaved the neck to my likeing and carved out a belly contour. I also changed the bridge pickup and did a fret level. I would put it up against any Les Paul for tone and playability, and wouldn't feel devastated if it gets bumps, scrapes and dents. I have NO desire to own original or VASTLY overpriced reissue's, etc. Obviously having a 24 3/4 scale length, glued in mahogany neck and body, rosewood fretboard, etc are essential to the 'design', it's the ring orientation of the body, and neck, as well as the weight & density of the wood's used that makes one Les Paul sound better or worse than another, regardless of whether its an original '50's, a high priced reissue or a Chibson/Epiphone.

Responding to a 3 year old video, but I have one of these amps and it's great for my circumstances. I play mostly rock, and run a Line 6 M13 among other things into it. I bought it because of the ridiculous clean headroom. I never use the dirty channel at all, though, there are many videos of people getting pretty great tones out of it. Out of all the guitars I own, my strat is def the best sounding for this amp. Would I rather have a vintage Twin Reverb or Deluxe, sure, but this amp was worth what I paid new and has been rock solid since I bought it well over a decade ago.

Great overview - balanced and on point! I have a handful of guitars I bought in the '70s that have aged nicely - a couple needed a bit of help, someone stepped on my Yairi Classic and put a hole in it! Also 2 of them were pre-owned, a 1957 Hofner Club & a 1968 Les Paul Custom, and they came with a few marks - mainly buckle rash on the LP. So be it. I have also bought a couple of 2nd hand guitars since with minor blemishes - fine by me if they play alright. BUT as far as new instruments go, I try to respect them for what they are and avoid dings etc or any damage because they are musical instruments - simple as that. I wouldn't buy 'distressed jeans' with holes at the knee any more than I'd buy a Murphy Lab or Reliced Fender or whatever - I just don't see the point in paying what can sometimes = $1,000 or more to someone to damage a perfectly good Custom Shop quality instrument BUT there are some YT guitar reviewers I respect who love their reliced guitars for the 'played in' reason - fine - and one who seems to think a reliced guitar has 'more mojo - a but dumb IMO but hey, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Each to his own and if you have money to spend on a relic and it makes you happy go for it!

I scoffed at relic'd guitars for years thought it was the dumbest thing until I saw one that didn't look so dumb. Idk maybe is was because all the guitars I have are pristine and the contrast of a relic just seemed nice. But and this is big BUTT I will never pay the price for a CS relic'd guitar that's ridiculous. I now have a relic'd Fano that wasn't anymore expensive as my most favorite pristine guitars. Now I wan't to get a nice sub 1k guitar and do mine own relic'ing and I will do it 😇 I've seen cool looking relic'd guitars made by grassroots builders for around 500-1k. So my mind has changed I now do appreciate relic'd guitars. I love playing my relic because I don't need to hyper aware of catching it on a corner or anything scratching it with my belts or buttons and it is a joy to play.

I think a lot of the issues he had with the amp could be resolved by tweaking the pickups/tones on his guitar. I believe he kept the guitar settings the exact same for all trials. I own the IV and love it. It’s a top selling product for a reason…cause it sounds good and does what it should.

Think Gibson guitars are now overpriced? Guess again. I bought a new Les Paul Standard in 1975 (yes most were Deluxes but there were a few standards)for $425 from Sightsinger Music in Orange Calif. I just went on google and found and inflation claculator and 1 1975 dollar is now 5.59. So in today's money it cost $2375. Now I go to Sweetwater's website and a new Gibson Les Paul plain top..$2599. The guitar costs THE EXACT SAME PRICE IT DID 50 YEARS AGO!!! So those who say "Gibson has made their guitars too expensive they are rip offs need to shut up because they do not know what they are talking about. Same price when adjusted for inflation after 50 years is pretty damn good.

I have an awesome R0 that I love playing, but I tend to favor my Standard 60's. To be fair though, Gibson is typically one of the less expensive made in America guitars. They still have models in the sub-$1500 price range, unlike most other brands.

67 years ago a Gibson guitar cost Approximately 175 . USD was mass produced by an underpaid workforce and the quality control was abysmal. Its design was hideous especially the amount of lumber 🪵 supporting the head stock in ratio to the size of the trust rod cavity. What's more the choice of Lumber 🪵 or timber for this design was cheap mahogany that was not designed for stress it was probably sourced from a lumber merchant that supplied mahogany for furniture construction. Hence the fragility of the headstock when the timber eventually gave up it's residual moisture content.

    • @MaxRossellMusic
      @MaxRossellMusic Місяць тому

So much wrong with your comment, starting with: - In 1958 a Gibson Les Paul Standard cost around $250, not $175. - Adjusted for inflation, that $250 is the equivalent of around $2800. - Okay, you say, but on Sweetwater a new 1958 VOS is five grand. Yeah, that's because it's now 2024 and the guitar manufacturing market is completely different from what it was 66 years ago. - In 1958, Gibson shipped 434 Les Paul Standards, which hardly qualifies as mass-production. - The mahogany used may have been more affordable back in the fifties but it was certainly not low-grade. - It's TRUSS rod, and all guitars have weak points, the Gibson head/neck junction is fine if you don't drop your guitar. There are eighty year old Gibsons with that exact design with intact necks because they were owned by people who look after their stuff. All this is easily available information, and shows only that this is a discussion on which you're really not qualified to comment.

I used to not like relic guitars, but then life happened and I learned the value of things that have been "lived in". I also appreciate being able to relax and not worry about getting a scratch on a $10,000 instrument. I like to use my things and not feel like I have to protect them. Example: I personally get the most enjoyment out of my cars after they have about 50K miles on them and I am not worried about where I park them, or whether or not they are covered in a storm. Do I own the car/guitar, or does it own me? There is value in the wear/tear on some items. An old broken in leather jacket being one of them. In fact, relics remind of a really nice old pair of leather shoes that have been broken in nicely but have recently had brand new soles put on them. A great combination. These points you have made are great. Anderton's also did a wonderful explanation similar to your points. I want to point out a couple things as well. Eddie Van Halen's guitars were NEVER flawless, not even new. Put together from spare parts and factory seconds with a home paint job. Slash's iconic Les Paul model is in fact a knockoff. Brian May built his own guitar out of an old piece of wood that was previously a mantel off of a fireplace. You don't need beautiful or mint condition gear to make good music. In my opinion (having been around the guitar community in various forms over the last 20 years) if it is reliable/looks cool/plays well/sounds as you like, then why even care what anyone else thinks? Enjoy your instrument and don't worry about what people think of it. The people who get really caught up in these battles are often not the ones doing anything at a high level other than arguing on Internet forums.

Gatekeeper is kind of a silly term for people stating their opinion. What “gate” (power) do they have? By your example how are you not gatekeeping people who have opinions?

I don't think you understand the term "gatekeeping". There are guys who think worn-looking guitars should be the sole reserve of guitarists with the time and/or money to achieve instruments with "genuine" wear. The collective power they have is peer-pressure, which they exert through constantly belittling and insulting relics and people who buy them. But those guys are entitled to their opinions, and it's not "gatekeeping" to explain to them that it's not okay to be dicks to people who just want to have guitars they think look cool.

Did have to change pot's as they were waaaay too stiff. Also PU covers n more accurate pole pieces. Also real single line klusens. The double line that say Gibson Deluxe didn't come out untill the mid 60's.

You should explain about materials and labor and hands on workmanship to these boobs that try to compare those unethical counterfeit chibsons to the real deal. I have a 2007 R8 plain top and I've played many other regular USA LP's and there's a difference. For some reason lots of people say 2007 used the best woods of the custom shop reissues, true? Who know's. There all nice.

Can I ask what that music you were playing please? What was my special guitar I would have to say my old Washburn, i played it for more than 20 years on stage aswell as at home every day . I play John Denver music and after 5 years my Washburn sounded beautiful. I do wish Washburn still made its guitars in America as I’ve seen and heard of bad reports on Chinese made?

Raw material prices roundabout: - One piece quatersawn genuine mahogany neck - 150$ - one piece genuine mahogany body AA quality- 150$ - nice bookmatched plaintop 80$ or highly figured eastern hard maple 200$ - nicely figured and dark rosewood fretboard AAA quality - 40$ Electronics, machines plastics - repro pickups and electric harness 300$ Tuning machines 30$ - frets, plastic parts 50$ There are no man-hours included, just the pure materials you need to build the guitar without machine running costs and work materials. The better the materials, I.e. light wood or higher quality the more expensive it is. Hide glue is a tricky stuff to work with, I personally use fish glue, it’s as good and offers the same properties, it’s protein based as well. The finishing process is also tricky, nitrocellulose lacquer is highly sensitive stuff and needs experience to be applied properly. All in all the higher tier Gibson and PRS, that basically use the same manufacturing process are expensive because adding all costs up, including manpower, they have high costs and this is responsible for the price, if it needs to be that high, I don’t know, I’m not a Gibson accountant but I know that I won’t sell my handmade stuff under 2.5 grand if I have material costs only about a grand, more likely for 3k at least.😂

The price is all hype. In 1958 they didnt use the best of the best select stuff, just what was available. Some 58-60's are not even good. Was luck of the draw. I have a $3k one that is nothing special, and I have some cheap chibsons I re-did and are better than my $3k gibson now. Ive taken them all apart and even built one. No reason a gibson standard shouldnt be $800. and the re-issues shouldnt cost any more because there is nothing different really. The aged and special treatments ones can cost more, but its not rocket science to do it, couple hundred bucks at most. But $5k ? Its just insanity. And with their sub par QC , my inlays started lifting up on mine. I think they inflate the price to trick people into thinking its so much better than it actually is. And the difference is just something in peoples heads most the time.

I just bought the smaller version of this pedal. It sucks that there’s no recourse for anything like this purchased 2nd hand. I think it is the price we pay for access to incredible tones that are normally hard to acquire, be it because of scarcity or price. Unfortunately, planned obsolescence is part of most products, from televisions to phones to guitar pedals. I’ve gone through a similar experience with a Boss M50. It’s such a great multi effects pedal, with an incredible library of effects. But when mine died long after warranty, it was impossible to get fixed. I could either buy another, used, at close to the same price I paid for it used, and risk the same experience, or buy the newer, more expensive (and not as user friendly) version of the pedal. I went a different way, and downsized, building a board of my own methodically with single effects units. It’s a shame. I have a tube amp from the late 50s I inherited, and I’m thankful these old amplifiers still have people that can repair them.
