After having 3 offroad tacomas, I got a 23 pro4x frontier. Price, comfort, rear locker, no turbo, less to go wrong. Offroad, overland, or work truck I have had zero issues. And it's been done without a stupid price tag.
$25k for an old used mid-size is a very poor financial decision. On the other hand, I have an old used mid-size I can let go for $25k if you are in the market.
People need to realise Nissan never intended the Frontier to be THE best midsize or even compete at the very top, they wanted a capable and reliable truck which they have succeeded in doing.
Its just that if you want to compete with the big brands, you have to stand out. Paying the same money for a simple (see "outdated") vehicle, its impossible to convince ppl to part with their money for "less" truck, especially for horsepower and torque. The bronco proved this against jeep.
@@tman1129 ive been saying this. Its hilarious, people complain about the price of trucks but theyre the same people who took out a 40k loan to finance a vehicle that was competitive in 2010. That just doesnt make financial sense. You could easily save 15-20k and pay cash for last generation Tacoma, Tundra, Frontier, Titan and they'll do all the truck duty you need
Talk about a bunch of engineer Nissan losers who never planned on making the best truck. What does that even mean? Who makes a new truck and don’t intend on it being the best ? Sounds like moral victories. Let me guess you got a 12th place award in high school ?
@@broodp4 The Frontier was all new just two years ago. This is a mid-cycle refresh. If that indicates they are broke, Toyota must be broke too since they were using the same 4-cylinder engine in the Tacoma since the late '90s. That thing had all of 159hp last year.
My God Daughter went out to buy a new Tacoma, and came home with Nissan Pro 4X. She said the Nissan was nicer, and cost less. She has been very happy with the truck.
I have a 23 pro 4x and it’s been awesome. People talk about poor fuel mileage but I often get 24-27 mpg on mostly back country roads. Been a great truck so far.
I've put 65k miles on my '22 SV 4x4 and it's been rock solid. Like you said it's great to live with; it does whatever I need it to really well. Quiet and comfy on the freeway and also a beast in the snow. And I love the hydraulic power steering, it feels so stable and planted.
As a mechanic this is the truck to buy. Ask yourself this, when a turbo fails it’s going to need to be replaced. I guarantee you that you will have to replace extra exhaust stuff since bolts and studs will be snapping off. Going to replace the intercooler too. My favorite 3 trucks that I would buy: 2nd gen tundra(facelift model) 2nd gen titan(facelift model) 2nd&3rd gen frontier.
When anything fails, it’ll need to be replaced. And often it’s a good idea to replace associated hardware like nuts or bolts when doing so. Not sure what is behind the thoughts on intercooler though.
Turbo failure is very rare. It’s not the 1980s. There are actually more failure points on the V6 (50% more valves, 50% more plugs, twice the cams, twice the head gaskets, twice the exhaust manifolds, twice the valve cover gaskets, twice the heads). It is a direct injection only engine which will carbon up the valves. Toyota uses port and direct injection. The rear seats on all midsize pickups are useless for passengers. This is why I own a Taco with the long bed and access cab with utility package. I have the legendary 2.7 2TR-FE, but I’m not afraid of the new turbo engine which is superior to the V6.
People buying these fancy trucks now a days have money to burn - they are mega expensive. And those buying bottoms of the line are for work and in many cases don’t care about repairs as they’re a write off. So why buy this mediocre truck with (my opinion and sales numbers) which is hideous… this is not the best it’s not even the mid it’s basically a Nissan ridgeline
This is probably my favorite channel on UA-cam. I own a Frontier but - I just love trucks and all of the cool stories and reviews you, your dad and the entire team do - even a shout out to Mr Truck.
I'm a Frontier fanboy too. 10 months ago I picked up this same truck as a 2023 left over in early 2024 - discount price of $41,000 44K out the door. I think that was a deal. And spot on your value price Tommy.
I work at a jeep chrysler dealer. I looked at a gladiator willy. All I wanted on it was the hard top tow package and the cold weather group. With my discount the frontier pro 4x was still over a 11000 dollars cheaper. And I get vehicles for 25 dollars over costs. So I bought the frontier.
Yep. That's nuts. I have a 2018. JL Rubicon 2 door hardtop. I bought it in February 2022. Just came in off a lease. Had 18k miles. Bought for it $45k. Let some other sucker take the new car hit. Before this, I had a 2015 SRT Grand Cherokee. I bought it in 2019. Gave $45k for it. Brand new it listed at $73k. That was a blast to drive! 😅
@austinatomTV I live in Canada the jeep gladiator was 62000 dollars after my discount of 5000. Thr frontier was 50340 dollars .that was in 2023 and I love the truck.
Gladiators are in a different class. Yeah, they're midsize, but it's allot more truck. I bought my Rubicon gladiator last year after I sold my lifted ranger. I've had many Tacomas, rangers, full sized trucks, the Rubicon gladiator is my favorite.
Then you're an idiot. A gladiator is a whole different vehicle class. No other midsize truck comes with D44 solid axles, dual lockers, 4:1 crawl or disconnect-able sway bars. Plus the smooth 8-speed and reliable 3.6 with the alternator set high up for mud and water crossing. You get much more off road capability which you would have to pay for on the competition. Plus, only the Ranger competes as a global platform that can be fixed in any country. Africa has never heard of Frontier or Tacoma.
I've been a Toyota guy most of my life, but when I recently went to buy a new truck I wasn't happy with what I saw with the new models. So I went with a 24 Pro4X. It has everything I need and nothing I don't, it still has an old school analog feel, yet has just enough tech to offer convenience. I love all the buttons and dials, interior looks nice, and I even got it in a cool color. Overall I'm extremely happy with it, and I paid about $10k less than a comparably equipped Tacoma 😄👍
I have a 2020 first year with this powertrain. It’s been absolutely perfect. It’s towed its maximum several times, goes off-road, camping, and goes down the highway at 85 mph @ 2k rpm. I’ve done all the maintenance myself and it’s been overall a wonderful, comfortable, and reliable vehicle.
I like that the Frontier is "old school". It has traditional hydraulic steering and a plain V6. None of this small 4 cyl turbo crap. I hear the transmissions on these are solid, too. If I had to replace my trusty 20 year old Ford Ranger, this would be on my short list.
I just bought a loaded 2023 Pro4X with 9k miles for well under $40k. I love the mix of just enough "new" tech with real knobs and buttons. I think it looks really sharp and rides nice for a pickup. I had a 2010 SV and I like the "new" one way more. I wanted something under $40k and without a turbo (because I tend to keep my cars for a long time). I also thought the 6-speed transmissions on the slightly used Tacomas felt kind of sluggish. My only complaints are no telescoping steering wheel and the rear parking alarms and sensors make me crazy. Other than that, I love it so far.
The Frontier would be more popular if they came out with a competitive off road package with 33" tires, dual lockers, skid plates at a base ZR2 price. It has my favorite engine option in the mid size class and the inclusion of a long bed option for the Pro 4X should get some overlanders to bite.
The ZR2 and Trail Boss are a significant portion of sales for GM as is the TRD Pro for Toyota in the past. The new Toyota pricing for the TRD Pro and Trail hunter will reduce those sales as will the Bison ZR2. If Nissan would offer what I suggest they would compete for those sales if the price was competitive with the base ZR2.
The frontier doesn't get enough love at all. Still rocking the 19 pro4x i bought in 2020. Impressive offroad stock. And still a great highway cruiser. I agree the pricing is bad.
The reason tommy likes this is he is an enthusiast. He likes old cars, and a new vehicle that is "simple" appeals to us, but not the vast majority of the driving public. They want new tech and power if paying new car prices. We appreciate the old, want the comfort and warranty of new, but we enthusiasts are only msybe 10% of the population.
I disagree. Id say majority of the guys that actually use their trucks as trucks want simpler vehicles and less electronics. Now yes the soccer moms that want a lifted 4x4 I'm sure appreciates the creature comforts but they don't drive a truck like it was made for.
I have a 2021 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X, the last year of the old style and I absolutely love it. But, from what I hear, people aren't sleeping in this truck anymore., it's sales are gaining traction by leaps and that it's proof that people want simplicity - not all the fancy gizmos and such that make it too difficult or expensive.
I got me a 2025 Frontier and what I like about it is I can sit in the driver seat and not have to flip through a dozen menus to figure out how to turn the truck on. I like how there is no truck functions on the radio. I wish Nissan would do something about the shitty steering though.
@jeanclaude7018 Obviously you've never driven a Frontier as they are famous for having a large turning radius. What does a pre-frontier have anything to do with this?
Tommy I totally agree with you, people overlook it all the time. I feel it is their loss; with proper maintenance I have never had any issues with my 2016****
That V-6 used throughout the Nissan range is an AMAZING engine. I have one in my Pathfinder and it seems to have boundless power pulling the PF's fat butt around. The sound is so nice, even with stock pipes.
Finally! Someone notices! Nissan trucks are great! The only people that hate them never owned them. As far as I'm concerned, I wish that all truck makers offered a truck with no tech at all! Give me the buttons and levers. Oh ya, and seat memory! All of these trucks would cost 30% less!
I believe so. I bought a Pro 4X. I’ve owned 26 or 27 vehicles, mostly trucks, and the Nissan Frontier Pro 4X hits the mark. I’ve towed with it, hauled with it, and used it as a truck for 2 months now and have zero complaints It’s the right mix of tried and true and a few modern consciences like wireless charging, great cameras, and Apple Car Play
Your review is spot on!! Simple is is better, The more Tech, the more can go wrong! I own a 2022 Frontier SV, I like the oversized switches & knobs especially if your wearing work gloves. Aftermarket has realized the demand, lots of upgrades can be made on the cheap.
22 years a Taco die-hard here. No more. Currently looking at a 2024 SV trim. The funny thing is it reminds me of the older Tacomas when test driving. No learning curve, it's like a duck to water. Everything important is right there within reach. The Fender upgrade sounds better than any system in my Toyotas. Yes, steering is a bit stiff - but not nearly a dealbreaker. Hat's off to the "poor man's" Tacoma!
The Frontier is the best looking midsize truck out there IMO. Reliability, Repairability, Style, Simplicity... those are the great makings of the next gen legacy for Frontier. Plan your purchase for the end of the year, end of the month, etc. and you can probably score a deal. Try to find last years model when the dealer has next years model on the lot and i'm sure they will be bargaining.
Considering the direction Toyota is going and what Stellantis has done to Ram, at this point I'm almost shocked that Nissan hasn't brought back the Titan. They were not great selling trucks, but it was American built and at least still have a V8. If they did a Titan series that included the original and XD models with some proper HD models they'd have an opportunity to dog walk Ram at this point and eat away at the Tundra's numbers, granted they price them low. Both companies are suffering from not having the V8 under the hood of their 1/2 ton trucks. I'd go back to Cummins and get the 6.7L I6 for those larger trucks and fix the issues with the V8 (single turbo like the I6, better injector wiring, etc) and put it back into the XD with a tune for a bit more power. Cummins has the 2.8L I4 diesel, and that would be a nice option for the Frontier. Make it into an I6 for the regular Titan, and take the 5.6L gas V8 and up the displacement and power for larger trucks. They'd be set to go if they can get the emissions nailed down.
Titans are great trucks. Too bad they didn't sell well. Guys who bought the King of Recalls and serious recalls, Tundra, probably never even looked at the Titan. No rusted out frames. No blowns engines. Tundra is a POS.
I have a 22 pro 4x and love it. The inside is new but the underpinnings are proven. On the frame of the old frontier/Titan so a ton of aftermarket support. It’s been bulletproof so far. The last of the old, you don’t need to go into a menu to do anything. The radio is a radio and not a way to adjust your heated seat or climate control. I got mine loaded msrp was 46k with destination wish they didn’t go crazy with the pricing. Never thought of ever buying a Nissan before this but glad I did.
3rd Gen Tacoma w/manual gearbox owner here. If one wanted a mid size truck and had to choose between the 4th Gen w/Auto and the Frontier, I'm thinking the Frontier is the better purchase. Just wish the Frontier had a manual gearbox option. Looks like I am going to be keeping my 3rd Gen for a long time.
nissan sales percentage of manuals made no sense to develop an all new one. if they had a ton of extra cash then it's possible they would have but it made more sense to just get rid of it.
Driven Toyota trucks for a few decades but bought my last one in 23 while it was still simple without turbo’s or electrification. My next one will be a Nissan. Last man standing.
Thanks for the video and thoughts on the truck! liked the pro 4x when we looked, and I like the 6 ft bed on pro 4x But the back seat is very upright. We went with a ranger XLT FX4 with 2.7 6 cylinder My cousin has a frontier 4x4 long bed with crew cab, it’s a nice truck
I prefer a 2WD extended cab. The Pro-X can also tow and haul more than the Pro-4X. The more people that think they "need" a 4x4, the cheaper the 2WD trucks become.
Had a 2012 Frontier SL Crew Cab, 4x2, long bed. That truck was utilitarian compared to the new Frontiers. But, it was bulletproof for 160K miles before trading it in on a 2024 SV Crew Cab, 4x4, long bed with convenience and technology packages, spray-in bed liner and utili-trak system. Fully loaded SV. Unless you're taking your Frontier out for more serious off-roading, save your money and get the SV trim. If you're reading this and considering a Frontier, here's my experience with my 2024. Engine and transmission are silky smooth, effortless with more than enough power and giddy up and go. The ride is smooth with a quiet interior. If your wife will be diving the truck, it won't let you back into anything. 😂 Automatically brakes. Great option. Knobs and buttons. Thankfully, analog speedo and tach. There are a lot of menu options, but those are set once and forget. 15K on my SV so far and expectedly, zero issues. Great truck. If you're in the market for a mid-size truck, don't overlook the Frontier. The V6 alone is reason enough to buy. Who wants a 4-banger in a truck?
the turbo 4 in the tacoma is an all around upgrade over the 3.5 in the previous gen. not to mention the new 8 speed auto actually knows what gear it wants to be in unlike the 3rd gen tacoma 6 speed auto. Nissan will be the last to downsize engines. It will help with their sales numbers the longer they keep the 3.8
I Owned a 2022 Frontier (Same), can tell you, It's solid but a level or two behind the Ranger and Tacoma, It's a very simple truck, and also 400lb heavier than the 2 in the same trims. Solid steel Steering knuckles, those suckers are huge! Good motor and Trans, will proably go forever if you take care of it.
It won’t be dethroned over night. Many people still believe the Tacoma is still the king of reliability. It’ll eventually be time when everyone sees this is not the Toyota Tacoma of yesterday.
While you were fathoming, did you ever consider maybe the reason it’s selling good is that the new Tacoma might actually still be a good truck? and it’s just become the cool new thing to call it junk solely because people who likely have never owned a boosted engine are scared about the turbo? What I can’t fathom is how people are even considering buying this truck for 50k. I watched this video thinking it was going to be about 38k, which would have made it a real contender. 50k for this is just nuts.
@@ww3662 well selling good is relative… it’s still number one in the midsize market but it’s down 8% while basically everyone else is up, including the Frontier that’s up 20%. Still… in my opinion, the Tacoma should be much, much lower in sales. As far as boosted engines, I don’t have an issue with them, it’s probably the least of my issues with the new Tacoma. But the differential seems to be made of glass, the clutch seems to have its issues, same with the Auto transmissions and lastly, the front shocks can blow straight through their mount. I’m not making this up, it’s all documented and easy to find on UA-cam. But keep drinking the KoolAid, keep telling yourself that the new Tacoma isn’t an underdeveloped and overpriced truck. And not to mention that if you’re complaining about $50k, the Tacoma tops out at $63k!!!! That’s insanity. The balls Toyota has to charge that much for a midsize truck with useless rear seats. But I guess as long as the have fanboys like you, they can continue to charge whatever they want for useless crap that’s mediocre at best and just relying on their old reputation. Lastly, if you compare this Frontier trim with a similar Tacoma trim, the Frontier undercuts it by a few thousand dollars on MSRP, and even more after you take into account discounts. In my opinion, the Frontier is the better truck at a lower price. Even if you disagree with that, if you compare all other midsizers along this trim level, they’re all around the $50k mark. Not a single new truck is anywhere close to $38k, so keep on dreaming and keep on drinking the KoolAid.
I will be buying a truck in the next couple months. Picturing 2024 pricing on the Frontier and Tacoma, I should be able to get a "base" Frontier Pro4X or Tacoma TRD Off-Road for around 45k or 46k. In theory. Or I can get an F-150 in STX trim with naturally aspirated 5.0 V8, 4x4, towing package, and a relatively plain interior, for 56k. For a truck that I plan to keep around 15 years I'm very tempted to spend the extra 10k and get the F-150 with a much bigger cab, more payload capability, and more towing capability, yet with about the same miles per gallon. Given this comparison I would not spend 50k on a mid-size.
As someone who actually own’s one and doesn’t just have a test truck for a couple hours or days for YT video and knows the specs from a spread sheet. Also driving it in all conditions. This truck is great, the engine is great, most importantly it’s reliable. I have had the 19 Pro4X for almost 4 years, which the power plant in that was in production for over 15 years, the 3.8 is also proving to be a great engine. The sound of the truck is good to as said in this video. This truck has what you need if you want a good reliable truck. Glad to see the Frontier getting the attention it’s deserved as of late. Have a feeling these will be on the road a lot longer than some of the competitors. Nissan did a solid job on the refresh, esp keeping the v6 power plant. $50k is a pretty big jump in price from the prior year with just an infotainment upgrade and bumper change. I agree it should be 40-45k. Good video man.
Great looking truck and love the throw back Hard Body grill. The hardbody edition looks amazing also. Funny to hear TFL one of the biggest Toyota fan club channels knocking on them. Nissan has always built an honest reliable affordable truck. Some great deals to be had on these as Nissan just announced some dealer incentives to get them sold.
The msrp on the frontier is high? It's literally the lowest in the market. FYI the msrp of the trail hunter in Canada is $83k sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....
Love the videos, especially Tommy’s enthusiasm! Would prefer if everyone would skip the wide-angle lenses; I know it gets everything in the shot, but it seems to come out a bit distorted. I certainly appreciate the simplicity of the truck; seems to check all the right boxes, especially offering a long bed option. I’ve always thought the back seat on the Frontier was an after-thought, more like a glorified extra cab so it’s good to hear they made it a bit roomier. Keep up the good work, guys!
I just bought a 25 pro4-x. Everything he said I agree with. But it wasn’t as well equipped and was more than 10k less than the one featured in this video. All the things I “missed out on” at that price don’t matter to me. It feels tough and well built. It looks great. It does sound great for a v6. Would take this over the competition all day
I’ve owned a 2015 Frontier SV 4x4 with the 4.0 V6 and in the almost 10 years of owning it, I have had to replace the thermostat, battery, tires and brakes. Aside from that, just the general maintenance. It has been amazing truck and if it ever dies, I would buy another.
Hey I was looking at one and it is a very durable with what’s needed to get the job done. I like one one guy says his daughter went out looking at Toyota and got Nissan . It has plenty of what you need , got power and choice of colors . Excellent tutorial
If I didn’t own my 2021 Colorado ZR2 V6, then I would have owned this truck. Good job Nissan, building a V6 all around great truck that is reliable and simple.
Laughing My Balls Off (LMBO) when you got to the video minute 5:14......I thought you were about to say you Adored the word "FRONTIER"......I cracked up pretty good there......And Tommy, you really nailed it Brother with how simple is just functional and awesome......Many Thanks.
The Frontier will be my next truck over all of the others in the midsize truck segment. It has the best engine,it’s the best looking and has the best seating feel out of all of them !
My philosophy on trucks like this is when the whole point of the truck is to undercut price don’t get the top spec. Get base or close to it, if you’re spending top trim price just go get a mid grade competitor as it’s likely a better screwed together truck and definitely better specs. This is a cool truck but like Tommy said too much money. You’re missing the point of choosing frontier at this price point
Good review. Good truck. Would buy over others if i was looking for a midsize. Love that you can buy a base pro-4x for around $42. Get all the important stuff with money left over to mod
The Frontier is a solid choice, and if I did not have my Gladiator, I would have purchased the Frontier well over Ford, Chevy or Taco.......JEEP BABY!! Since 1941......Great Video, Many Thanks.
Basic, simple truck with the buttons and knobs reminds me of a 1990's truck. I agree with you, Tommy, the only problem is the price should be matching this old-school basic truck. If it were $10K cheaper, it might actually sell well, but at that $50K price there are too many modern trucks to choose from.
You guys are my favorites. Yes, you're half my age, but we totally agree. I still can't get over why every truck in America (save for Jeep and a couple of Toyotas for the moment) has deleted a transfer case lever. The last time up trails near Estes Park, I was really thankful for feeling the transfer case engage 4-lo and off we went. It's just not something I'm ready to give to servos just yet. Also, my present 2010 Toyota has knobs and switches for everything (even the radio, I'm a total luddite for the old JBL), but they all WORK. I believe future resales are going to drop so fast as the screens that control all the functions quit being made, or cost thousands upon thousands to replace. You may be selling me a truck here, the new Tacoma is just kind of weird.
Just picked up a 2024 Pro4x and it's amazing honestly, the 2025 upgrades don't make a lot of sense to me, the bigger screen is nice but not really bigger in that the side panels are bigger but the smaller screen is just as useful in my opinion. So if you want to pick up this truck at the lower-end price point 2024 is the way to go imo.
Tommy, great review! Like you, I hate the tablet glued on the dash look. Ten years feom now those trucks will lool like 1990 Gold Wings with the old infotainment stuff and this Nissan will look crisp and clean inside. STOP THE INSANITY!
Wow i just bought 2 months ago a 2024 Titan for 55K, including Gap insurance and oil changes for life. Im glad i bought the Titan before it was discontinued. Total was actually 60k but that was because I was 5k upside-down on my trade in.
I'm in the beginning of building an SV extended cab 4X4 with a 2" suspension lift kit, ARB air lockers plus a super charger and a sports bar. I wish Nissan still offered a manual transmission and a no tech option, but new cars suck now, and Nissan has to keep up with the vacuum. I'm pretty excited.
Tommy, the Titan was the same, just s simple truck, sorry to see it go away. They could juice the Frontier up with turbocharging, add some goodies, front locket etc., it could be a powerhouse.
My mother in law just bought a 24 hardbody and I have fallen in love with it. I work on vehicles and dread modern vehicles coming to me even for simple maintenance. These trucks are comfortable and simple. I would absolutely buy one it I was in the market for a midsize truck.
The obsession over hp and tq is getting insane. The power in that truck is plenty! Very similar numbers to the v6 in my canyon. The things you point out on this truck are the reasons I like the 2nd gen Colorado canyon. Sure they have a lot of plastic inside but it’s nice enough. Doesn’t have a stupid giant screen. Smaller screen and buttons is way better imo .
You are spot on Tommy, I had one for almost 2 years on a lease, great All around truck. Only complaint for me about the pro4x is it has a bad turning radius. Other wise it’s a man’s truck love the heavy steering, and engine sounds great . I had 3 titan pro4x trucks my favorite full size pickup and I have been blessed to own pretty much all of them, best engine ever wish they would drop the titan engine in this baby , people do engine swaps all the time. That engine and the warrior package and this truck would shoot to the top!!!
Too many people focus on tech, which adds to the price!! Why do we need stereo's with a screen? Why do we need lane departure sensors, and camera's? We don't!! It's time for a basic vehicle, with manual windows, no sensors and a basic am/fm stereo, with Bluetooth, and no screen. It's all you need! That specific truck, should be in the high 20's to low 30's at best!
I cant really say im dedicated to any brand anymore since the decline in vehicles over the last decade or so. But you touched on the buttons and thats a huge pro to me. Tbh i wouldnt buy a ford anyway but the ranger and other vehicles starting to have everything through the media screen is a huge deal breaker to me.
I love my 22 Nissan Frontier, and I loved my 19 Nissan Frontier. I just wish they kept the utilitrack rails on the floor of the bed on the 22 Frontier…that’s my only gripe. Fantastic, durable, dependable, affordable…the list goes on for how I would describe it.
The only issue I have with the frontier is lack of a lift. 4x4 needs to came with a 1-1.5” lift. The pro4x needs to come with a 2-3” lift from the factory.
The biggest problem with the Frontier is the same problem with all of the midsized trucks, they cost far too much. The Pro 4x in Canada starts at $52K CAD, the SV starts at $50K.
After having 3 offroad tacomas, I got a 23 pro4x frontier. Price, comfort, rear locker, no turbo, less to go wrong. Offroad, overland, or work truck I have had zero issues. And it's been done without a stupid price tag.
Same experience with my 2023 Pro 4x.
Normally aspirated engine, simple switches, Apple CarPlay, low price is what the buyer wants
40k for last generation tech. Still not financially smart. Just get last generation Japanese truck and save yourself 15-25k
$25k for an old used mid-size is a very poor financial decision. On the other hand, I have an old used mid-size I can let go for $25k if you are in the market.
im okay without apple car play
I want tech generation before last, would even pay extra.

I drove my pro4Xterra for 8 years! Best vehicle I ever owned! I’d love a new one.
Funny enough, the current frontier is still on the same F-Alpha platform has the last generation Xterra.
It's still the same platform...
@jeanclaude7018that’s not why Toyota frames rust out. All the Toyota SUV frames are fully boxed and have rust issues
They make a Terra SUV in other markets

Wow how noble of Nissan! Truth of the matter is Nissan has no money so just did the bare minimum to update the frontier.
@@tman1129 ive been saying this. Its hilarious, people complain about the price of trucks but theyre the same people who took out a 40k loan to finance a vehicle that was competitive in 2010. I have a 23 pro 4x and it’s been awesome. People talk about poor fuel mileage but I often get 24-27 mpg on mostly back country roads. Been a great truck so far.
2022 Pro 4x here. Getting 21 mpg mostly. Can't complain honestly.
My favorite 3 trucks that I would buy:
2nd gen tundra(facelift model)
2nd gen titan(facelift model)
2nd&3rd gen frontier.

And spot on your value price Tommy.
you mean Tommy :)
@@_Jin_Kim_ thanks.. corrected that
I work at a jeep chrysler dealer.
My Willy’s was $43k out the door brand new.
So I picked it over the frontier.
Love my 2023 Pro 4x. Test drove a 2023 Tacoma, drove the Gladiator and the Chevy and GMC. I found the Frontier met my needs the best.
🥱 yawn.
@drags666 soft taco owner alert!! I'm betting you got r a toyota. Just snobby and narcissistic feel from your comment.

Yes! I've been saying this for years. Essentially a frontier version of the trail hunter would be fair to say.
Most people don’t buy that trim level on the trucks that have that.
Just build it yourself it might be a lot more cheaper. I guess
This is the stuff TFL should long term.
The frontier doesn't get enough love at all. Still rocking the 19 pro4x i bought in 2020. Impressive offroad stock. And still a great highway cruiser. I agree the pricing is bad.
I love the Frontier. I have a 24 Titan. Also a great truck.
Me too. Went to buy a Frontier, but they had a Titan I couldn't pass up.
How is the steering shitty?
you dont like trying to find your light switch in the menu? lol

@jeanclaude7018 Frontiers turn worse than a full size truck.
Exactly!
I believe so. I bought a Pro 4X. I’ve owned 26 or 27 vehicles, mostly trucks, and the Nissan Frontier Pro 4X hits the mark.
I’ve towed with it, hauled with it, and used it as a truck for 2 months now and have zero complaints
It’s the right mix of tried and true and a few modern consciences like wireless charging, great cameras, and Apple Car Play
Fyi..got a 2022 SV, I've had no problems & wouldn't hesitate to purchase all over again.
The poor man’s Tacoma that’s more expensive than the Tacoma? Haha
You'll end up loving the steering once you're used to it, at least I do!
Best daily driver I've ever owned. Sv trim with the convenience package was the best bang i could find for my buck
Better to buy it now because nissan is so broke rn
You got that right!
But it’s not really $50k Tommy. Nissan has much larger discounts than other brands.
Thanks for the video and thoughts on the truck!
liked the pro 4x when we looked, and I like the 6 ft bed on pro 4x
But the back seat is very upright. We went with a ranger XLT FX4 with 2.7 6 cylinder
My cousin has a frontier 4x4 long bed with crew cab, it’s a nice truck
Yes it’s a good truck. It works. Pro-X 4x2 for me, I dont off road. Good looking too.
Once titan is gone, frontier is the only truck i would buy.
What I cannot fathom is how the new Tacoma is still the number 1 selling midsize despite there being so many better options at a lower cost.
Resale
It won’t be dethroned over night. Many people still believe the Tacoma is still the king of reliability. It’ll eventually be time when everyone sees this is not the Toyota Tacoma of yesterday.
My thoughts exactly.
These right now are on sale for about 46k everywhere around me, and you can get a 24 model fully loaded for 38k a steal ...
I concur same feedback here pro4 X 2023, just push the button and it goes from a 3 miles errands or a 800 miles trip
Great looking truck and love the throw back Hard Body grill. The hardbody edition looks amazing also. Funny to hear TFL one of the biggest Toyota fan club channels knocking on them. Nissan has always built an honest reliable affordable truck. Some great deals to be had on these as Nissan just announced some dealer incentives to get them sold.
it's too bad nissan didn't make the 3 holes on the top of the grille functional.
The price of the MSRP is pretty high. But unlike most other brands I don't see insane dealer mark ups and actually see them marked down in some cases.
The msrp on the frontier is high? It's literally the lowest in the market. FYI the msrp of the trail hunter in Canada is $83k sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....
I bought anew 2024 yesterday, 49k factory sticker, I got it for 44k and 4.9 financing. It's loaded and a really good deals on the 24s.
Would take this over the competition all day
Great review Tommy! I couldn't agree more.
Love my 23' pro4x. $42k otd. Bought in may 23'
There are plenty of PRO-4xes around my area in ATL GA between 36 and 40k
I’ve owned a 2015 Frontier SV 4x4 with the 4.0 V6 and in the almost 10 years of owning it, I have had to replace the thermostat, battery, tires and brakes. Aside from that, just the general maintenance. It has been amazing truck and if it ever dies, I would buy another.
I am the owner of a '13 Taco w/275k. Runs like new, but if I was looking, definitely a contender
One year with my ‘23 PRO-4X has been fantastic. Highly recommended if you’re in the market for a Japanese made midsize truck.
That's the thing... It is 100% Made in America. I do not understand why Americans do not buy it (or the Titan).

Thanks for the review! ❤
Building a long bed along side a
silimalr Tacoma, the Frontier is about $5K less. That's a lift kit, tires and wheels.
That engine was hooked up to manual transmission in the last gen. If they’d offer a manual now I’d buy it 100%
The 3.8 was not offered with a manual.
I got a 2024 Pro-4X and I love it 👌🏽
Had a new 09 was a good basic needs , this one pops my interest
Nice “Bop It” reference!
I love my 22 pro 4x. Traded in my 2017 sr5 access cab tacoma with 117,000 miles.
It’s my favorite truck right now, I like how it’s basic and simple which equals reliability.
Z1 off-road offers a supercharger for it
Love my Pro-4x. It may not be best of class in any area, but it's strong in all of them.
I'm still driving a 2013 Frontier and love it.
My mother in law just bought a 24 hardbody and I have fallen in love with it. I work on vehicles and dread modern vehicles coming to me even for simple maintenance. These trucks are comfortable and simple. I would absolutely buy one it I was in the market for a midsize truck.
So your mother in law has a hard body?? Don't tell the wife. 😍
My 22' P4X has been great!
My understanding is the “Zero Gravity” seats are available. That would be nice since my commute went to 26 miles from 4.5.
Agreed. Plan on getting this and a Z next year.
Turbo charge engines in trucks is garbage , ill take a naturally aspirated V6 or preferably a V8 any day
The obsession over hp and tq is getting insane.
Alot of work trucks do alot of engine idling at construction sites, security details, delivery, etc. So a hybrid would make sense.
I been saying it for years, I’ll buy one Frontier if it came with a manual transmission.
Exactly solid reliable powertrain truck even the base model make a good work truck.
I couldn’t agree more Tommy !!!!!
I'm seeing one of these Pro 4x in a beautiful green color at a dealer by me listed for $40,000!! Take advantage of the market while it's down
Good video Tommy I totally concur..👍
Too many people focus on tech, which adds to the price!! Why do we need stereo's with a screen? Why do we need lane departure sensors, and camera's? We don't!! It's time for a basic vehicle, with manual windows, no sensors and a basic am/fm stereo, with Bluetooth, and no screen. It's all you need! That specific truck, should be in the high 20's to low 30's at best!
a lot of the tech is becoming mandated by the government. can't really just do away with those.
There’s going to be an additional 5-6k charge for that from factory
So many aftermarket options, including a 2” from Nissan directly.
The biggest problem with the Frontier is the same problem with all of the midsized trucks, they cost far too much. The Pro 4x in Canada starts at $52K CAD, the SV starts at $50K.
