Bach Invention #13 Slow Practice, Play Along

For most of us, the Bach Inventions were our introduction to polyphonic music. In polyphonic music, we can have 2 voices, each equal to the other.
1. Try playing along with this recording, first with right hand, then left hand, then together.
2. The theme is repeated throughout the piece, moving from key to key, and then being turned upside down.
3. We often detach the 1/8 notes when they are in large intervals, i.e. 3rd, 5th or octave.
In this studio, our students learn six 2 part inventions: #1, #4, #8, #10, #13 and #14. It is important to keep them "in the hands", and we require that the students read all six, one time per day, for a lengthy period of time.
