Fun fact: that folding windshield is actually on the real jeep. Which also has a bunch of other 300 IQ features, like the headlights being able to flip around to shine into the engine area for work and repairs.
One of the things I love most about Transformers fandom is watching Thew go through the motions of explaining the origins of Transformers. It's to the point where when Mr. Sunday Movies and Maso started in on their explanation (with the caveat that, yes, we know you know this) for their review of the The Movie this week, I could hear Thew's "Diaclone!" "Bob Budiansky!" ringing in my ears. So glad he brought back a classic!
You know, Thew Adams was discovered as a baby in a pumpkin patch and so his working title was actually Thew Harvest before his parents were assigned. Not many people know that.
There could be this whole episode of Snarl deciding he was tired of the other Dinobots and decides that he was quitting and just wants to wreck shit and then Optimus orders Hound to calm him down and it could be this whole 23 minutes of wacky fun.
As a Transformers fan, it's easy to get jaded with how much people bum G1, but then you get your hands on one of the toys, and it makes you go "ohhh, THAT's why people like G1." I had that feeling when I found a Whirl at a flea market, and I get little hits of that when I mess with G1 reissues.
I think people tend to get annoyed with those who think ‘G1’ means ‘The Sunbow Cartoon’ rather than the actual original toys. If ‘Geewunners’ were talking about the actual G1 toys I certainly wouldn’t have a problem with them. As it is we get this downgraded and inferior reissue of the original to satisfy the Sunbow adherents, rather than a rerelease of the actual toy (which I don’t think has ever been reissued).
I believe the reason why the price is so high is because this isn't actually a reissue of the original G1 Hound toy- which hasn't been reissued since 2004 (and the mold probably fell into a state of disrepair afterwards). Rather, it's an all-new mold done by Hasbro from the groundup that emulates the original, and the high cost of recreating the original figure is the reason for the high price. Same thing with the BW Basic Rattrap and Terrorsaur reissues from last year.
I'm guessing the reason why they went for hound is because he's the G1 mould Hastak has re-released the least. He got like, a release in Encore and Commemorative Series, and that's it
It may very well be that. Something I realized when I got this not that long ago though is that it actually has the Jeep licensing on it and that's not something I remember seeing on a G1 reissue before (IDK if "Vintage" Bumblebee had it). It might suggest that at this point licensing is taken seriously enough that the old Diaclone carbots that dodged it for years are now just a bit harder to release (even though HasTak are STILL making close alt modes to a lot of them for the Gen lines). Hound being not done in a while, available, and something they probably got licensed easily all collectively factor I'm sure. The movie line itself pobably isn't that much about the movie (I'm convinced the same is true of SS86) anyway so it's more about what they can toss into the line rather than what makes sense.
It's great that they're finally painting the optics of G1 reissues like Hound and the Seekers. Planning on picking up Hound and Thundercracker. My only misgiving, having gotten Hot Rod, is the lack of chrome. Given that both 86 lines are giving us background characters like Hound, Snarl and Junkheap, it's a shame there wasn't any of the generic Seekers in the movie. Great video as always.
Thew you put why I love the Vintage G1s right at the end there. As someone who caught like, the Monsterbots, the Triggerbots, the Pretenders, Action Masters, I love the 84-85 cast but never got to experience them first. When I first got the Vintage G1 Prime and Minibots it gave me a sense of nostalgia, completeness and comfort that I still value every time I open a toy I missed out on. I picked up Starscream, Thundercracker and Hound and after so many re-imagining's and reworks it's nice to have them with their original forms, tinker with their original engineering, and put that puzzle on why we do what we do together just a little bit more. Your reviews are always bangers, but this one hit hard for me.
I was lucky to pick up a G1 Hound in a charity shop about 15 years ago, along with Mirage, a few Micromasters, and a beat up Broadside for like £20. Was well chuffed!. This guy looks suitably updated yet still that classic mould which is still strong even today.
I think a G1 bot you'd absolutely love would be Trailbreaker. A friend of mine grabbed one at a convention a few years back, and after messing with it, I loved the thing. Been meaning to track one down one of these days, but it's just such a fun lad!
I completely understand how you feel, I first experienced G1 Minibots until like 3 or 4 years ago when they reissued Tailgate and Swerve, which I got along with Hot Rod and when I got those I understood. Tailgate is super simple, yet brought me endless amounts of joy
Hey Thew. Great vid. I just wanted to share my experience at the opposite end of the G1 spectrum. I was 14 when Tranformers came out. I remember clearly someone brought Soundwave to school, and I thought it was cool. Unfortunately my parrents felt I was passed the age for expensive toys so Ily got a few mini bots and some Go-bots. I however did manage to convince them to buy some for our family friends son, who I baby sat for often . I was the fa vorite baby sitter because I actually played with him. A re. couple of years ago the offfered to give me all his G1 toys since he no longer cares, only to find that they had been stolen out of the attic. I managed to cobble together a G1 Jetfire. I have A rerelease of Prime, I gave away my G2 reissue prime. G1 Jazz reissue. I remember I had brawn. I mostly go for CHUG since I cant stand the Bayverse look, and gave up on the movies after 2. I'm currenty trying to figure out how to design Transformers in Tears of the Kindom, since all the tech is green, Hould would be a good option.
Hound himself never rly did much for me, as a Unicron Trilogy kid - but the redeco of his Siege mold as Cybertron Defense Hot Shot rly helped me appreciate the base toy much more!
I'm in a similar boat but I found Hot Shot an odd fit for that mold (but the head's bang on perfect.) But it is kind of interesting that the Diaclone/G1 toy of Hound did inspire two whole decoes in Energon which is cool to see looking back.
I’m a bit on the fence, they’re charging Voyager price for this in my area. If it was about deluxe price it’d seem fair for a 40 year old toy, that’s barely a repaint of the original.
So here’s what I don’t understand about reissues, they complain about molds being stolen/destroyed but what is stopping them from ya know, 3d scanning pieces or even an entire g1 figure and just ya know…. Remaking the mold?
Loved having this version of Hound. Had the original one since I was like 6 years old and it is a mess. Still transforms but bits have broken off and chrome has worn. Now we get this lovely new one with tight joints and all the weapons, no chrome to rub off and it's in a fresh new paint scheme to give it a little more specialness. One of the best figures to get this year honestly.
I find this comical. Bringing out official Hasbro G1 knock offs. Knowing full well I would buy Sunstreaker in a minute. You notice my boy is behind Hound in the movie clip. So fingers crossed. So that is me hooked. £35 is a chunk of change so hardly cheap. Ah well, time to go Poundland for my usual toys.
As much as I'm really looking forward to the SS86 Hound figure, I also dearly love this. There's just something about the complex-yet-simple Diaclone molds where they had like a billion accessories and no articulation but only like 5 steps to transform and the alt modes just looked beautiful. Plus, the die-cast, those rubber tires and (on the originals) chrome just hit so hard.
The funny thing is, the real issues are usually either rebuilt or completely redone molds. Some of the most frequent players to be reissued actually consistently get their molds refurbished, like soundwave, Optimus, starscream and the seekers, and apparently sideswipe. And hound is apparently a very recent complete rebuild of the original mold, testing the waters to see how well that does for this line. Meaning who knows who's next
I was a G2/Beast Wars boy, so my experience with the OGs was also particularly limited. I had (still have) a blue Grimlock and shiny Bumblebee and Seaspray that unlocked something in my 6 year old brain and got me started down this path. I did get some vintage figures over time, but they were always kinda naff and not really fun to play with as a result (Warpath being the exception; built to last, that boy). Then the Walmart reissues came out. I got Hot Rod, Starscream, Gears, and Swerve all at once. Taking them out of those brick boxes, being floored by too many accessories to store in either mode, all the stickers, it brought something back. They're fun to pick up and fiddle with and have a good hand feel. Nothing has really sparked that kind of childish joy for me since, except possibly Retro-Future Tusker and its deliberate throwback obtuseness. If only two of the limb bots weren't impossible to find...
Your vids are always informative and fun, Thew. This one is no exception! But man, I wasn't prepped for how much I actually laughed at the lil Billy Joel and Chicago references. 🤣 Congrats on the album, too! Rock on!
Relatable. Most if not all my G1 toys are Commemorative era reissues. Generations Hound was a near prefect update an I liked how the Alternators Hound was a perfect homage to the original aesthetic of the toy complete with hip wheels, and G1 hood syndrome. Planning to get this one to go alongside Prime, and Prowl but also hoping for an updated SS 86 release.
...Secretly Hound wants to be human? Wha...? 9:27 - I swear, there MUST be someone at Hasbro who's a fan of yours and has a very strong grip on the toys' release schedule just to screw with you. lol "Sir? Are you sure we shouldn't release the Buzzworthy Hound now?" "NO!! He hasn't made a joke about it yet. Steady..."
Found my OG copy of Autobots Lightning strike and Megatrons Fight for power along with My Transformers Universe and the Marvel UK Transformers collected comics of the first few issues a while back it really made my day to know I still had them.
I would love for them to reissue star saber, victory Leo, Deathsaurus or some of those very hard to get Japanese only transformers. Since those are either broken, very expensive, damaged, or have lost their color over the years because of the plastic they used. Maybe once the trade mark comes around again since they did use Star saber and Deathsaurus for the HasLab. But yeah reissue are cool for those that just want the toy and don't care that's its not the first run. Great video as always sir. Any chance of a new "knock off bet down" once you move house?
Starscream and Thundercracker was also released, but not Skywarp. He would be so sought after with collectors. I got Hound because he was one I wanted since I was a kid. I got G1 Sideswipe, Inferno, Tracks, Snarl and Prowl when I was 18. In 1988.
Hound is up there with cliffjumper for favorites that got moved to the wayside. I mean optimus prime and the dinobots will always be the focus of my collection along with devastator but hound and cliffjumper aren't far behind.
Growing up with the Bay films, I had never really understood the appeal of the G1 toys. But somehow Hound makes the simple G1 idea of "a car that is also a man" make sense and I think I finally understand the appeal now. He is just a kind little green man and we're all better for it!
Hound was my first transformer and I still have him. I also have the ehobby Desert camo repaint that is very good. I pick up this one and it’s nice to get a new g1 toy. I had to get it one line do to my Walmart never got any or maybe I just missed it.
I think Hound was included in part because well... its been a long while since they last touched him. Besides I do not expect a reissue of like Pretender stuff for a long time coming.
Hi Thewdue. I just got home from a grueling 2 month stint in hospital, where the wi-fi is weird. It won't let you watch anything remotely 'adult viewing' which, sadly, all your vids seem to garner, assumedly because of grown up words. Anyhoo, I am back to watching your fab content once again & happy to say, it never disappoints! Many thanks dude bro!
He was my first Transformer, too. My feelings on this are just disappointment, however, since they’ve changed it so much to try to make it look like his two-second big-screen appearance.
Yess! I feel all these ways about this Hound. Why's he in the movie line? Who gives a monkey's, it's put him in my hands for the first time and I haven't had to pay like a hundred quid for one that looks like it's been through a bark chipper.
I do not care how minor they are I want the mini it’s to be released in this line I will pay so much for brawn or gears especially if they have the original face.
Imagine the universe where Hound stayed one of the main characters of the series instead of Bumblebee.
I imagine that a lot.
Honestly, I would prefer that
I often dream of this paradise, he was deserving of it
Never Bee trun to real car
I would be the happiest guy in that universe.
Fun fact: that folding windshield is actually on the real jeep. Which also has a bunch of other 300 IQ features, like the headlights being able to flip around to shine into the engine area for work and repairs.

Ah, nice to see a fellow wackadadoo out in the wild
“RODNEEEEEY!”
You know, Thew Adams was discovered as a baby in a pumpkin patch and so his working title was actually Thew Harvest before his parents were assigned. Not many people know that.
I like to imagine Hound was hanging out with wherever Snarl was during the movie.
There could be this whole episode of Snarl deciding he was tired of the other Dinobots and decides that he was quitting and just wants to wreck shit and then Optimus orders Hound to calm him down and it could be this whole 23 minutes of wacky fun.
And they come back just in time to be horrified at the smoking aftermath of the battle in Autobot City.
I love the goofy proportions, because they were mecha
Right I look at whirl and it don't look good and then I transformer it and it's so satisfying and fun
It's like that one meme where Danny Devito goes OMG I GET IT.
There's a magic to the original toys. Even g2 is fun
I love that he’s basically a Combiner leg with arms
So _that's_ why he was in Combiner Wars!
And, I believe (sorry if I'm mistaken), the G1 Optimus Prime mold that came some years ago.
A rack of hologram missiles*
Glad a continuity *finally* fixed the whole "why is Hound the hologram guy and not Mirage" thing after 40 years with RotB
That dispense real holographic pain!
"I am, once again, not McFeely" was way funnier to me than it probably should've been
I'm guessing the reason why they went for hound is because he's the G1 mould Hastak has re-released the least. He got like, a release in Encore and Commemorative Series, and that's it

Great video as always.
Oh nice, congrats on the album, hope it came/is coming together well
Hound is such a qt, every toy of him oozes charm
Thew you put why I love the Vintage G1s right at the end there. Loved the "Cell Block Tango" line during transformation! Kinda felt like a "Rocky Horror" callback line, ha ha!
My favorite thing is that they even went the route of using the original Hasbro logo.
I was lucky to pick up a G1 Hound in a charity shop about 15 years ago, along with Mirage, a few Micromasters, and a beat up Broadside for like £20. Was well chuffed!.
This guy looks suitably updated yet still that classic mould which is still strong even today.
Magenta Hot Rod is an absolute dream. I got him a few months ago, and he filled a hole in my collection I didn't know existed.
Was not expecting a Chicago reference, of all things, in a video about Hound… But with a transformation like that, he had it coming
I think a G1 bot you'd absolutely love would be Trailbreaker. A friend of mine grabbed one at a convention a few years back, and after messing with it, I loved the thing. Been meaning to track one down one of these days, but it's just such a fun lad!
He's always been the best. Deserves a lot more respect than he gets!
I completely understand how you feel, I first experienced G1 Minibots until like 3 or 4 years ago when they reissued Tailgate and Swerve, which I got along with Hot Rod and when I got those I understood. Tailgate is super simple, yet brought me endless amounts of joy
0:35 Excellent blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, but now I *do* expect a full cover by the end of next week XD
I was not ready for a Chicago reference. Well done, sir!
Wait, they actually released that prototype unicron figure?! Now that's what im talking about!
Hound is such an underappreciated sweetheart, can never have enough Hound
What an adorable bot! It’s still supposing to see just how tiny he was
I'm amazed how turning Hot Rod magenta makes me dearly want to have him in my collection. XD But that G1 Unicron though, eyes emoji 👀
The chrome on the original G1 Hound really gives that added POP! Glad you were able to get your hands on this version of the mold.
Salute to you, Mister Thew, if your amazing abilities hold true that Buzzworthy Hound will be mine SOON!
7:34 always nice when thew pulls out a random reference I actually understand, amongst the death metal and puns there's just a nice Chicago shout out
Hey Thew. Great vid. I just wanted to share my experience at the opposite end of the G1 spectrum. I was 14 when Tranformers came out. Last two minute were very poetic and I totally relate. Great job sir
Hound himself never rly did much for me, as a Unicron Trilogy kid - but the redeco of his Siege mold as Cybertron Defense Hot Shot rly helped me appreciate the base toy much more!

Hound is a pretty underrated character.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars, I’d imagine, since that’s how much it costs to make a mould.
I relive the childhood I never had through your videos, so thank you for sharing it with us, I discover things too watching your vids. Love yah man.
Stealthy Homestar AND Chicago references? You spoil us, Thew
7:37 I fully on belly laughed at this. You never stop surprising me and I love it! Somewhere out there's a Jazz review missing a pun though... :D
Thews laugh at 9:53 is how we all giggle at silly but fun things :D
Loved having this version of Hound. Had the original one since I was like 6 years old and it is a mess. Still transforms but bits have broken off and chrome has worn. The windscreen folds forward onto the bonnet on the IRL Willy's Jeep. Veracity, baybeeeee!
Glad to have some of Thew's infectious joy this morning. Also, rocking the green nails man!

I wasn't expecting the cell block tango reference but boy that made my day!
Y'know I wouldn't mind a show accurate Gears reissue
I want Hasbro to give this treatment to Ultra Magnus.
1:05 Antiques are 100+ years. Vintage is 20+ years.
Nice vid! @8:09 I think the windshield flaps forward probably because actual Jeeps could do that too. :)
Did not see the We Didn't Start The Fire punchline coming. Well done.
Thew: watch that toy come out a day before i release this video - it’s gonna happen!
narrator: it didn’t happen
...Secretly Hound wants to be human? Wha...?
9:27 - I swear, there MUST be someone at Hasbro who's a fan of yours and has a very strong grip on the toys' release schedule just to screw with you. lol
"Sir? Are you sure we shouldn't release the Buzzworthy Hound now?"
"NO!! He hasn't made a joke about it yet. Steady..."
They pulled all the die-cast and chrome out. They literally pulled out the sexy.
I hated how they did my green jeep boy in Transformers 5. My passivist army jeep was my favorite.
that little giggle when hound rolled out of the trailer :D
The doot-di-doo was precious.
Is it me, but without the chrome plastic weapons it takes me out of nostalgia-world???
And the green just looking… ‘wrong’. I love Hound, he was my first Transformer, but this just isn’t him.
8:48 i need that in my life.
Damn you Thew.
Found my OG copy of Autobots Lightning strike and Megatrons Fight for power along with My Transformers Universe and the Marvel UK Transformers collected comics of the first few issues a while back it really made my day to know I still had them.
I love the contagious affection for the g1 toys.
He was my fave from g1. Never had the g1 until this g1 reissue. And i love this
The colour coordinated nail polish was never mentioned but noticed and got a laugh from me
Give me the seige version of hound anyday I'm less likely to have a fit over those boxy feet lol
Siege Hound is so very much the robot the original box-art made 11-year-old me think he was buying.
Nice touch with the Chicago ref, Thew. 🤘
I’m looking forward to picking up hound. When I was first getting back into transformers, G1 hound was the first G1 bot I got.
9:28 it got fuckin axed with the rest of veloci bois unfortunately. As much as I wanted an earth mode version of that mold. BUT NOOOOO
Most likely that in the Movie, Hound was killed off screen at some point.
That's weird, I thought Hound was the main character of the movie.
Hound was my first transformer, back in '85
I have most of the accessories since 😲
It’s weird that Hound and Jazz are the few G1 bots that I never see
I really like the box art they did for the 86 SS and for this
Starscream and Thundercracker was also released, but not Skywarp. He would be so sought after with collectors. I got Hound because he was one I wanted since I was a kid. I got G1 Sideswipe, Inferno, Tracks, Snarl and Prowl when I was 18. In 1988.
ugh that 10 second flash of an inferno, they sold so fast in my area, and no one restocks quickly any more, I want him so badly
Really caught me off guard with that reference to The Most Beautiful Girl in the World 😵💫
"Back-Droptimus Prime"
Sir, I've watched you since the bumblebee Brouhaha and *THIS* has deceased me 🤣🤣🤣
Love your stuff!! Keep it up Mang!
0:35 "Ronald Reagan, deregulation, cultural sensation" is a fantastic rhyme and I will use it any time I need to explain the origin of Transformers.
This review brought a welcome to smile to my face after a long day of work
Thew I thank you
Wonderful video!! All the green to make scene!!
That Hound does look good in cartoon accurate colors
Great review as always Thew!
The mini figures from Skyfire fit in the seats :) and I love this!
That Rogue Limb song sample sounded pretty good!
Never saw a reissue on shelves like, ever
Many thanks dude bro!
you can still get the modern Diaclone pilots from the rebooted series and they are roughly the same size as the originals.
Hound was my first Transformer as a kid. The feels are reals on this reissue.
He was my first Transformer, too. My feelings on this are just disappointment, however, since they’ve changed it so much to try to make it look like his two-second big-screen appearance.
@@hobartpaving8986 I hear you. I am also fighting nostalgia by thinking about how cheap the plastic looks on this.
I came here for the review, stayed for the Prince rendition towards the end 😂
Yess! I feel all these ways about this Hound. Why's he in the movie line? Who gives a monkey's, it's put him in my hands for the first time and I haven't had to pay like a hundred quid for one that looks like it's been through a bark chipper.
Just registering that the accessories seen on the as yet unreleased hound are found recolored in the new toxitron line G2 jazz
Those ridiculous stri-ped pants!
I do not care how minor they are I want the mini it’s to be released in this line I will pay so much for brawn or gears especially if they have the original face.
