    My dad got our 5000 in 1967 with 4 bottom Ford plows. At 12 years old I'd been plowing with our 800 Select O Speeds and 3 before. The 5000 just sailed with the 4 even in clay. The tractor worked everyday on our dairy till the farm sold 6 years ago with only one clutch replacement. Thank you for doing this one justice

      Awesome story, these Ford tractors become part of the family! They will last forever with the right care. Must have really been something going from the 800 to the 5000 plowing. What a difference!

    I grew up with this and a 6000. All my childhood tractor sounds were emulating this motor. They look good with a two post ROPS and canopy.

      That engine makes such a memorable sound. Agreed! I would love to find a canopy for a decent price, always on the lookout!

    Enjoying your videos. We have a '68 5000, gas as well. Slowly getting it's issues addressed. Next up is the PTO that's always turning.

    Never seen a gas 5000 but the diesel 5000 is a freakin tank.

      Definitely a tad noisy in this video! I took this footage before I did the valve adjustment video, just a little late getting it out. Thanks, I hope it will be a strong worker. Have lots of field to mow.

    Exactly how I bought my 68 4000. I didn't think it was going to run. Turns out it runs like a top. Little crap here and there. Everything is available to fix it. Love the old girl. You cannot bye tractors like this anymore, You absolutely cannot go bye the same size tractor new that will outlast or be as strong as these tractors are after you have put them back into mechanically sound condition. They are that well built. You can run one all your life and will them to your kids and they will probably will them to their kids. I have a 5555 Mahindra and I don't like the electronic fuel injection becasue it has no governor. The mechanical injection is much better and mine does not smoke anytime except idle. Mine is a diesel too but the blocks I'm told are all the same. In other words a 4.2 bore block used for diesel service is the same as a 4.2 bore block used for gas. In fact there are people who do switch overs on them. One to the other. The diesel head is different from the gas head and of course the injection system, injectors and pistons are different but everything else is the same. Block, Rods, Cam, rocker arms, push rods and Crankshaft are all the same gas to diesel. My 4000 doesn't have the wishbone front piece like yours either. Have fun with it.

    Hey, like the 5000 and how she is coming along. My son and I are thinking about doing same thing to my father's 4000. We recently was able to find the S/N and date it was built. Was a bit rusty and numbers were not easy to decipher. How knowledgeable were you with tractor before jumping in. Also are you a wrench turner by trade?

    • @marktolman6037
      @marktolman6037  3 роки тому +2

      First off, that's a great tractor to preserve, and a great tractor to get started with. Parts for these tractors are super plentiful, and not too expensive. To answer your question, I have been a diesel/heavy equipment mechanic for many years, and growing up on a farm working on my own equipment has certainly sharpened my skills. Turning wrenches and fabrication is second nature to me, as my family is blessed with great craftsman. A project like this may be a little daunting at first, but there is a lot you can do, and there is alot of help online, with manuals and how to videos. Also, folks who restore these great tractors are usually not too far away. Good luck 👍
