I have wanted to try a via ferrata for awhile now and Ouray is the one I've been looking at. Probably start with the downstream route and make upstream a future goal.
Hope to get back to the downstream one this year and can compare the two.
This looks incredible, definitely adding this to my list for my next visit to CO!
Going to have to check this out next time I'm in Ouray!! Probably would get Maggie's after just like I did when I climbed Sneffels!
Maggie’s is SO good
It is best to do the Downstream Route first to get experience on how to use the rungs, cable and rock. The optional Sky Climb route on the Downstream is a good indicator if you have the abilities to do the Upstream. If you are unable or you find the optional route over your head, you should not attempt the Upstream.
Rubber garden gloves that fit snuggly are the best choice of gloves as they stick well to rock, cables and rungs and give you the dexterity to clip and unclip easier than leather or padded gloves. Whenever climbing up, place the lanyard over your elbow so it pulls up with you.
The Upstream is not only more difficult and technical, it is also 1,000 ft. longer than the Downstream route.
Thanks. The wife and I went to try it last weekend and it got closed due to rain. I can see why now. Also hadn't realized some of the difficulty levels. Need to try the downstream before we tackle this. As an aside, also be aware of the altitude. The day before we went I was getting dizzy. Took me a full day and my energy output was still low. Think next time I may even take 2. Thanks and be safe out there
Woooow. Thanks for bringing us along because this is not for me haha. Looks like a really cool day though if you have the nerves
Soooooo awesome. Ouray is my favorite place in CO. Great video!
Hey dude, always enjoy the content and info! Which video talks about which weather resources/channels you use pre 14ers? Thanks!

Hell to the no.
Outstanding adventure! Congrats
Great advice on awareness dealing with forearm fatigue in this route! Did this route last year and was one of the exposed sections with no rungs and the cable above our heads. Clipping over at anchor points proved to be very exhausting on my forearms and I actually lost grip for a second but was caught by my tethers obviously. Really scary for a split second but just rested and gathered myself and finished the route then did the downstream the next day. Both are super fun for sure. The route in Telluride is also fun with a ton more exposure then both of these and much higher up
Yeah the pump on this one is real! Glad it worked out for you
Happy belated birthday Jackie! Loved this video. The Mr and I have talked about doing this. Real, awkward question….. where do you pee???
I mean you know the standard men: anywhere they want and women there are a few spots with coverage. Not gonna lie though with crowds it could be tough. But this really should only take a few hours (3-4) tops.
@@TheVirtualsherpa thanks!!
That Vf looks great. I've only done a couple and this one looks very challenging. Wish I had one closer to here. And it was free! You won't find that here in the east. Thanks for sharing.
Happy belated birthday to the missus. That really looked amazing... and the weather seemed to be brilliant as well.
Amazing! Going into the bucket list for sure. Thanks for capturing this 🤟
This looks like a fun chill "climbing" day. Probably gonna go do this just to see the canyon from that angle at some point.
Interesting, I might give that a try. Thanks for sharing!
This was great! Thanks for sharing.🙌
Holy crap, this looks awesome!
Ha! Did this one August 2022. Lots of fun but more challenging than you think. Be sure to go into town afterwards and get a burger and beer at the Ouray Brewery!
If you didn’t last time - HAVE to hit up Maggie’s. By far the best burger in town.
I've been wanting to try a via ferrata but I don't think this one will be the first! 😅 Really awesome video!
Downstream route is a tad easier - hoping to show that one next time. You can also hire a guide in town to give you the best / safest experience 🤘🏽
About how long did each route take you to complete?
I would plan for a half day for each. You may be able to move quicker without crowds but bottlenecking can slow things down a lot.
