Thank you so much for this excellent "How To" video. It is exactly what I needed. I have been wanting to do this for a long time. Now with your video, I will be starting the project and finishing it soon! A tremendous help!
This is such a great idea and using these extenders my wife will let me do it so that our new German Shepard can't jump over the fence. Great video thanks, should be ordering these soon!
With thin wall pipe I make the splice pipes by sticking them in a hydraulic hose crimper to swage the ends, then weld the seam. Water pipe I use a couple of c channels and clamps to hold together, tack weld then seam weld. I got a laugh when you suggested putting the bolts in the cap, every time I do it it gets kicked and bolts in the grass.
GOSH!! YOUR AWESOME !! Great video I definitely need this done too my fence out in my back yard I got dear coming in my yard I probably won't be able to keep them out completely but at least it will be harder for them to jump over my fence now that I get this taken care Thank You!
Thank you Dan for taking the time to make these videos on chain link fences...I live in the tropics can you make a video explaining installation on slopes or sould I say uneven terrain....I would really appreciate that...🙂
If you did not skip the line post to save time on video, what would you normally do? Looking to do exactly this, that seems to be the only part I do not understand. Do you leave it unsecured?
Terrific! This would solve my problem that the contractor drove the posts too far into the ground making for a poor fit. I've search my local box stores for post extension without success. Any suggestions, I live in the Mt.Juliet, TN area
We currently have a 3' chainlink fence with 6' bamboo panels affixed to it (with wire) by the previous homeowners. Could we keep the 3' chainlink there as is, but add the poles to make it 6' and then have the bamboo be more stable, or something other than bamboo--what we want to do is have a privacy fence and add sound-dampening acoustic panels of some sort. We need a stronger fence along with privacy and sound-dampening. We got a malamute several months ago, and sadly she is very fearful of all the street and neighbor noises in our backyard. I'd love to relieve her experience somewhat, and have a secure fence so she can even be off-leash in the backyard (a 3' fence with 6' bamboo panels won't hold a malamute in), we'll probably add a small fountain as well for white noise. Basically we need to turn our 3' fence into a 6' sturdy frame. We could still use the bamboo, but we need a 6' frame to hold the weight of the acoustic panels. Do you have an ideas for this? We also need to replace our 3' x 3' gate with a 6' gate. Is there a way to add a frame to the existing gate, or do we need to buy a new gate?
I;m gonna build a 8ft wooden fence using these ,so I'm thinking of using a fence post bracket to keep them together ,and I'm thinking it will all stay together as the runners and pickets will keep it stable , and do you actually read the comments ??????
Great video! I was looking for something similar. I have a post at a gate that has rusted & broken at the concrete. I have contacted several fence companies looking for a sleeve that would slip into the broken existing post that is still in the concrete & then slide a new post over it. Where could I source a pipe with the OD similar to the ID of the post? what kind of company would it be? Thanks, Chuck
I have a 5ft chain link fence and i have a swimming pool in my backyard, im considering installing 6ft privacy slats on my 5ft fence, would you think its a good idea?
Hello, based on your videos, I have just completed a 450 foot chain link fence. I have a possible problem. It rains every afternoon in central Florida. I noticed that I have about 12” of water in each post. All my posts were ‘stabbed’ into wet concrete. Can I just leave the water there? I understand that concrete is permeable, I have considered drilling a small hole in each post at ground level but an concerned that this will provide a place for rust to start, what do you guys think?
Almost all chain-link posts have water inside of them even if they are capped due to condensation. If you really feel like it you can drill and we pull in the the post just above the concrete or let it ride just like it is
Holding the post directly behind where your drilling is not suggested a drill bit to the wrist in the field would suck. There are Novices out here watching and learning. Maybe a disclaimer add in. Otherwise a great informative Video.
Good job U need a 6 feet tall fence on my backyard with 4 feet wired I have now, no privacy at all except with the help of my few flowers that bloom on Spring time but at Fall and Winter I can see right through my neighbors yard.
I have a 3" 5' high ss-40 steel pipe post for a Gate that is to go in that has already been set. It's supposed to be 6' but the "contractor" is screwing me over :( Can you adjust that?
Hi! I have a question for you, We have existing 4ft fence that’s been up for over 30 years still in great shape but we wanted to make it a 6 footer. We got a great deal at auction for posts and rolls of 6ft link. The new posts are large enough to completely sleeve over the existing posts will this same method work with a full sleeve and bolts or would extenders like this be better? We do not want to dig up the cement holding existing posts, it’s held up 30+ years I think they will outlive me!
Would you install a vertical wood shadow box on existing chain link posts that are spaced at 10'? Looking to use these extensions on the exiting posts to avoid installing new posts but i know 10' OC is stretching it
A 50ft long roll is standard, but those rolls come in different heights. Anywhere that sells chain link fabric should have different heights to choose from.
With the through bolt method is nothing sharp sticking out there for the kids to get caught on when they run by it 300 times a day the self tappers are sharp little shit if I did it that way I would take a file and just needing it up a bit for the kiddos you know❤️ Now wait ……..a ……MINUTE that Fence has TEN INCHES to P L A Y with😳 Maybe 🤔 your neighbor …….. down the street………… might……want……….that 10 inches😳 GREAT instruction video! I see so many saggy crooked fences just driving around you could make your own fence tightening business we are over here in New Hampshire❤️🇺🇸
I am wondering why you say you could weld it but dont specify you ll need a gaz mask underground Wellington mais cause of the fume from the product coating the post ... just thought for thèse that like not beathjng poison
That's not that easy... Why not just use an Extend-an-Arm height extension and then use something like barbless wire or something like that.... That would be wayyyy easier...
Lol , go ahead and cut the 4ft post down and stagger new 6ft post to avoid the existing footers. And install the 6ft fence the correct way without those Extensions.. I’m sure the new 6ft line post would be the same cost or maybe cheaper and you would have a much better fence 🎃
We always push the inside pipe all the way to the top and weld like an inch down just gotta make sure inside pipe straight… that way u have a flush joining of pipe
While l it may not be the best solution, some people are trying to accomplish their goals on a budget, this may be an option. However, this is not some thing that we ourselves install at our company.
I was slightly offended that you didn’t include the fence that identifies as a 6’ fence’s pronouns. Just when you think you know someone. Do Mark and Allen even know who you are!? Nice share guys. 👍
Ive spent about a week wondering how I’m going to tear out the old posts out of the concrete... thank god I thought to look this up! Thanks man
This solves a huge problem for me, as we don’t have the budget to fully remove our 4’ chain link and replace with a 6’ privacy fence. Thank you!
How did it turn out?
Really is a clever solution. No point in digging up perfectly good existing posts.
These guys are in a league of their own.
Best fence guys.

So glad I now have 10" to play with. Thank you SWI!
We're going to help this fence transition "without removing the post!" BA! Love it. You guys are the best!
Great vid Dan! It totally can feel like a real 6’ fence😂
Pretty sure that pipe extension is every man's dream.🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Love your helper. Cutie pie🥰
Thank you! It's creepy the algorithm knew i was thinking about this.
Love this! I'm in Casper and I need to turn a 4' fence into a 6' fence. I'll be coming to see you next week!
Nice!
I wasn’t expecting comedy from a fence clip. 😂
Thanks for the video.
My 4' steel fence wishes to be an 8' cedar fence. Is there a spray on product for that?
GOSH!! YOUR AWESOME !! Great video I definitely need this done too my fence out in my back yard I got dear coming in my yard I probably won't be able to keep them out completely but at least it will be harder for them to jump over my fence now that I get this taken care Thank You!
You can do it!
I enjoy watching your videos. I learn so much!
Well thanks!
Just what I was looking for. Thanks for that amazing video!
You're welcome!
Thank you Dan for taking the time to make these videos on chain link fences...I live in the tropics can you make a video explaining installation on slopes or sould I say uneven terrain....I would really appreciate that...🙂
This was so so helpful!
Excellent!
If you did not skip the line post to save time on video, what would you normally do? Looking to do exactly this, that seems to be the only part I do not understand. Do you leave it unsecured?
Solid video and workmanship!
Thanks!
Lol I love the opener 😂
Terrific! This would solve my problem that the contractor drove the posts too far into the ground making for a poor fit. I've search my local box stores for post extension without success. Any suggestions, I live in the Mt.Juliet, TN area
I mean, we do sell them. 😉 bit.ly/CLPostExtensions
If you weld you could make some yourself or talk to a weld shop in your area and see if they will.
2024. great video. i will need 6 ft closing gates. where will i get those?
This guy is awesome!
You're cracking me up 😅😅
What can I say? 😁
Hello, what size screws or type of screw do you use for the first part?
Add a flat round magnet at the bottom of your drill bit holder and they will never fall.
I like that idea!
Then water seeps in the post then freezes in the winter and splits the post,I use sleeves that go over the post to prevents that from happening

Since I’m going to have a bigger pole. Do I need a deeper hole?
Hello, what kind of screw and size do you use for the first method? thanks.
Great video! Thank you!
You bet!
Hello, what kind of screws did you use? or size? thank you!
How much do you as a company charge to do this per feet. So I can have an idea of what's fair
Looks great but what is the purpose of that random section of fence?
Purely for the sake of training videos. 👍🏻
@@SWiFence Now that is the sign of a dedicated teacher!👍

Good video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Is there a benefit to using a brace band with carriage bolt over wrapping tension/bottom wire around the post?
Hello, Thanks for the tutorial,
Any points to be notes for adding SWI Fence 4ft on a 6ft tall fence.
How do you measure the width you need for the post extension? Is it inside to inside or outside to outside?
That intro earned a sub! 😂
freaking hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!and oh ya, helpful
Now how to do this for only a section of a chain link. My local Canadian home depot does seem to carry these pole extensions.

Drill a hole

@@SWiFence crazy how come wintertime it’ll bust a hole in the side of a post lol from the water freezing
Holding the post directly behind where your drilling is not suggested a drill bit to the wrist in the field would suck.
There are Novices out here watching and learning. Maybe a disclaimer add in. Otherwise a great informative Video.
That's a fair point. 👍🏻
Can you convert a 4’ chain link to an 8’ corrugated metal fence?
No, probably not. The new windload you're going to create is in all likelihood way too much for your old post spacing and depth.
Good job U need a 6 feet tall fence on my backyard with 4 feet wired I have now, no privacy at all except with the help of my few flowers that bloom on Spring time but at Fall and Winter I can see right through my neighbors yard.
Any link for the Chain Link Post Extensions? Thank-you!
Yes! Sorry. We had to get it set up: bit.ly/CLPostExtensions
What diameter and size of SDS screws did you use?
I have a 3" 5' high ss-40 steel pipe post for a Gate that is to go in that has already been set. It's supposed to be 6' but the "contractor" is screwing me over :( Can you adjust that?

This should work for making my 4ft fence to a 5ft right
Yes, just select the 1' option. bit.ly/CLPostExtensions
Why can't you buy sleeves?
You can! From us. bit.ly/CLPostExtensions
Where's the extension link
In the video description. bit.ly/CLPostExtensions
Would you install a vertical wood shadow box on existing chain link posts that are spaced at 10'? Looking to use these extensions on the exiting posts to avoid installing new posts but i know 10' OC is stretching it
No, I wouldn't. 10' is definitely stretching it.
How do you get taller chain links 🤔
You'll have to remove the chain link fabric and buy new fabric that fits.
@SWiFence that's what I mean.., they sell different size fabrics? I thought you said 50ft fabric is standard . Where do you buy taller fabrics?
A 50ft long roll is standard, but those rolls come in different heights. Anywhere that sells chain link fabric should have different heights to choose from.
@SWiFence OK thank you mann appreciate your work. Anytime you in jamaica 🇯🇲 I got you bro.
Hi Dan, thanks for your tips. Where did you buy or order those extensions?...
Hey Yolanda! We sell them at our shop: 👉🏻 Chain Link Post Extensions - bit.ly/CLPostExtensions
With the through bolt method is nothing sharp sticking out there for the kids to get caught on when they run by it 300 times a day the self tappers are sharp little shit if I did it that way I would take a file and just needing it up a bit for the kiddos you know❤️

You can run the bolts parallel in the fence line so that there isn’t anything sticking out perpendicular to the fence line to snag a shirt or kid.
I have a slimmer pole. Do the that extenders for that?
We make them for the pipe sizes listed on the site: bit.ly/CLPostExtensions
Any chance you're in southeast Wisconsin? I could use some help with this!
So sorry! We're not. 😞
how tall should a post be for a 6 ft chain link fence
Around 8’ … but more variables to consider not included in the question as stated. 6 above ground 2 anchored with cement you’ll be good most cases.
Haha I loved the intro.
"Got a 4' fence that identifies as a 6' fence." 😆🤣
good info on the fence bur $200 for a set of drill bits ???
Shop around--I don't think you'll find those T-80's for any cheaper. They're designed for contractors. Probably overkill for most DIYers.
Can one buy the extension posts in Canada?
Yes we can ship to Canada but you'll have to call the shop to arrange shipment. Shipping things across the border takes more work. (307) 578-8040
What is easy tie
ua-cam.com/video/c1I0zNAxPQY/v-deo.html
i want to make it 8 feet tall
Your existing engineering probably won't accomodate that. (how deep you are in the ground, how much concrete, post spacing, etc.)
👍
I am wondering why you say you could weld it but dont specify you ll need a gaz mask underground Wellington mais cause of the fume from the product coating the post ... just thought for thèse that like not beathjng poison
T-80 SUPER SONIC DRILL BIT SET
$249.98$189.78
Yeah I won't be buying $189 drill bits
Or you could just sleeve over completely
Wow 200$ for drill bit’s is a bit too much
I’m not sure which drill bit you’re referring to because I don’t think we have any drill bits that cost $200.
That's not that easy... Why not just use an Extend-an-Arm height extension and then use something like barbless wire or something like that.... That would be wayyyy easier...
Personally I wouldn't care for that look--but you could give it a shot.

I’m sure the new 6ft line post would be the same cost or maybe cheaper and you would have a much better fence 🎃

Good one. I think I'm going to identify as a billionaire, retire early and tell my job to shove it. Wonder how they'd take it? 😂😂😂
😂
Was looking for a fast tutorial your info was good but to much time wasted with silliness. Had to keep fast forwarding
Sorry Vickie. Hard to please everybody.
Thank you for your silliness. It was a great video.
Oof. Your a good lookin fence dude. What state 😂
