Most Russians living in the Baltics are very aware that they are far better off living in the Baltics than if they were to move to Russia. So the pro Russia sentiment among the Russian speaking population baffles me. They are allowed to continue their traditions, practice their culture and religion and speak their own language etc... They are treated equally just like any other part of the population.... Yet they choose to whine and claim that they are being oppressed. They are delusional that sense. But i must stress, not all of the Russian speaking population is like that. I don't understand the pro-Russians saying Estonia expanding its military power is provocative. Around a year before this video was posted Russia annexed Crimea and ever since then have been funding Russian separatist groups to fight a proxy war against the Ukraine army and supporting militias in eastern Ukraine (despite them denying it). Estonia, another European country that was also formerly part of the Soviet Union, has every reason to believe that Russia would do the same to them. If Russia one day decides they want more coastline and shipping ports, they could just waltz right over to Northeastern Estonia and claim that they are taking back land that was theirs in the first place. Same concept as them taking Crimea.
They joined NATO in 2004 and immediately began building military bases and receiving weapons, including air defense systems and other missile systems. When Gorbachev demolished the wall in Berlin, the heads of NATO promised him that NATO would not move east towards Russia, later they simply ignored their promises and began to arm most countries around the borders of Russia. When Russia (which had no conflicts with any of these countries at the time) asked why they were building these military bases, NATO leaders replied that all these bases were being built solely to protect these countries from North Korea and Iran (I'm not kidding). Fortunately, NATO is now openly declaring that its main enemy is Russia (Russia did not declare this, by the way). As for Ukraine, from the point of view of Russia, Europe and the United States supported the openly anti-Russian uprising in the country. Most of the inhabitants of Crimea are still Russians, because Crimea was a part of the Russian Empire and Russia for a long time, and only during the Soviet era was it annexed to the Ukrainian socialist republic, so Russians living in Crimea, including parliamentary officials, the police, and the army, were not very happy with the people who seized power in the capital of Ukraine. Almost all of them supported the annexation in Crimea, I'm pretty sure Vice themself showed videos about Crimea, where most of the residents were in favor of Russia. The situation in Estonia is completely different, the Crimean scenario is simply unimaginable there.

When I was serving in AFG we had an Estonian contingent assigned to our task force. I remember vividly sitting in a meeting where the incoming Estonian commander asked for his troops to be sent to the worst place in our AO and I quote "Because we did not come here to make friends, we came here to kill people." Everyone of their soldiers, including the females, were itching for the fight. Very glad to have them as allies.

Most Russians living in the Baltics are very aware that they are far better off living in the Baltics than if they were to move to Russia. So the pro Russia sentiment among the Russian speaking population baffles me. They are allowed to continue their traditions, practice their culture and religion and speak their own language etc... They are treated equally just like any other part of the population.... Yet they choose to whine and claim that they are being oppressed. They are delusional that sense. But i must stress, not all of the Russian speaking population is like that. Now the Estonian militia needs to do training operations with their professional military so they can easily integrate with them when necessary. The keys to this are integrated command structures, unit cohesiveness and training, training, training.
Perhaps the next NATO exercise in Estonia will include the Estonian militia.
Estonian Defense League (the militia) has been doing training exercises with our Defense Forces (mandatory service) and professional soldiers (those who participate in NATO missions) and NATO forces for years. This is not a year old thing.

I don't understand the pro-Russians saying Estonia expanding its military power is provocative. Around a year before this video was posted Russia annexed Crimea and ever since then have been funding Russian separatist groups to fight a proxy war against the Ukraine army and supporting militias in eastern Ukraine (despite them denying it). Estonia, another European country that was also formerly part of the Soviet Union, has every reason to believe that Russia would do the same to them. If Russia one day decides they want more coastline and shipping ports, they could just waltz right over to Northeastern Estonia and claim that they are taking back land that was theirs in the first place. Same concept as them taking Crimea.
They joined NATO in 2004 and immediately began building military bases and receiving weapons, including air defense systems and other missile systems. When Gorbachev demolished the wall in Berlin, the heads of NATO promised him that NATO would not move east towards Russia, later they simply ignored their promises and began to arm most countries around the borders of Russia. When Russia (which had no conflicts with any of these countries at the time) asked why they were building these military bases, NATO leaders replied that all these bases were being built solely to protect these countries from North Korea and Iran (I'm not kidding). Fortunately, NATO is now openly declaring that its main enemy is Russia (Russia did not declare this, by the way).
As for Ukraine, from the point of view of Russia, Europe and the United States supported the openly anti-Russian uprising in the country. The new leaders of the country openly declared their hostility not only to Russia, but also to the Russian and Russian-speaking residents of Ukraine, they literally planned to issue a law prohibiting the Russian language and this was one of the first reasons for the uprisings in Ukraine. Most of the inhabitants of Crimea are still Russians, because Crimea was a part of the Russian Empire and Russia for a long time, and only during the Soviet era was it annexed to the Ukrainian socialist republic, so Russians living in Crimea, including parliamentary officials, the police, and the army, were not very happy with the people who seized power in the capital of Ukraine. Almost all of them supported the annexation in Crimea, I'm pretty sure Vice themself showed videos about Crimea, where most of the residents were in favor of Russia.
The situation in Estonia is completely different, the Crimean scenario is simply unimaginable there.

When I was serving in AFG we had an Estonian contingent assigned to our task force. I remember vividly sitting in a meeting where the incoming Estonian commander asked for his troops to be sent to the worst place in our AO and I quote "Because we did not come here to make friends, we came here to kill people." Everyone of their soldiers, including the females, were itching for the fight. Very glad to have them as allies.

Remember NATO is a defensive pact, not aggressive. Our presence in west Germany and the prosperity it brought is an example. Don’t forget the Berlin air lift. Served in the Canadian Forces for over 20 years, the Cold War is back. Estonians are our brothers now.

It sickens me to read some of the comments here where people find it normal that if a portion of the citizens speak another language it gives them the right to become another country or invade them..... if everyone would think like this...... damn you can call the US, Ireland... But why would Russia invade Estonia? This country is in NATO, so crossing its borders would mean a total war with USA, which would defenitely eradicate RF (Russian Federation; dont know why federation, president chooses heads of states by himself).
If we take the Ukraine, it was under the Russian influence before Майдан. So, "civilized" countries didnt care a lot and they DID NOT declare a full war on Rus because of this. Instead, they used economic weapons (in Russia the word "sanctions" is associated with US and Obama)

@@ivan4ik2003 Definitely not "total war", that's a long shot. Still, the NATO membership is probably the most important reason why Estonia wouldn't be the first target for Russian invasion. Even then, NATO member countries are REQUIRED to keep up their own military forces, and for a small nation like Estonia, this is a way to extend it's relatively small active force.
