  • Hello friends, in this video I’ll be showing you how I made this 5ft fancy nylon stockwhip, and how you can make one too! As always, it’s important to state that I am not by any means claiming that this is the only way to make a fancy plaited stockwhip. Instead, this is a method that has worked well for me, and that I’d like to share with you. Modifications and alternative methods that you find work better for you are always encouraged, so if you feel like there is a better material/method anywhere throughout the build, please let me know in the comments. The handle and the thong of this whip will be plaited with Whipmaker’s Cord. The handle is 18 plait, and the thong is 16 plait.
The process of filming this tutorial has been by far the most challenging production that I have ever created for this channel, and I have done my very best to film in detail, every step to the best of my ability. Although this project is quite involved compared to others on the channel, don’t let it scare you! I’ll be building the entire whip right along with you in real time. All tools and materials needed to build this whip are listed below. In addition, I am excited to announce that I am giving away the final prototype that I made while designing this whip, and all you have to do to be entered to win is… 1. LIKE THE VIDEO and 2. LEAVE A COMMENT. Complete those two steps, and you will be entered into the drawing. All countries are eligible in this international give-away, and I will be drawing names in exactly one month. If you feel that these videos are helpful to you, your support is greatly appreciated and allows me to continue making them. You can support my channel here ► www.paypal.com.... I’m glad you’re here! Sit back, relax, grab your supplies, and join me on this whipmaking adventure!

I've followed a lot of your tutorials and made most of your whips. My all time favorite is the electrical tape and BB one. That thing EXPLODES when it cracks. Very underrated method IMO. Seriously, use Scotch 33+. It would work much better than that brown paper glued to that handle.

Not only is it incredibly relaxing to watch you work, and your voice is so soothing, but it's really the fact that you are always so positive and encouraging to beginners that reminds me of him so much. Hi Nick. Is it possible to make this whip from gutted parachord? If so, what things would I need to modify? I would like to make it for a family member. I’m fairly new to your channel. Just a note about the strand drops: if you start the herring bone in U4O5 instead of U5O4, it lets you make a clean drop to 16 plait U4O4 without a double strand overlap, and U4O4 also lends itself cleanly to drop to 14 plait U4O3.

Love watching these videos, I work with cattle in close proximity and I think a whip would help in a few situations but I have not bought one because I really don't know what length would work best. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it. Since I am on foot and within 10-15ft of them... I think a shorter whip would work best.

I have built several whips and have taken the knowledge I have gained into several other similar projects. While you were tapering the handle, you asked if we had any suggestions for alternative materials to the packing paper. Have you ever worked with 1 & 2 millimeter thick craft foam?

Hey nick I was wondering what formula you use to determine what length you need for each strand of a braided layer when you have...
    1. The number of braided layers
    2. Number of strands per braided layers
    3. How long the whip is going to be
And also I need help determining how many braided layers I need per whip design when I know the length.
And also how many strands I need for a given belly determined by the amount of strands from the overlay. Thank you and i love your videos im learning so much.

@nickswhipshop why not just use hockey tape to increase the diameter of the handle rod? Would also give it a nice sticky surface. If you want to you could also use kraftpaper tape. That's actually a thing. Basicly it is just what you used but it's pre glued and comes in rolls. I use already tapered fibre glass rods to plait riding crops. That would probably be the easiest way to design the handles core.

Hockey tape is 1" wide, lightweight and comes pre glued for wrapping nicely around the shaft. it also provides a tacky surface to plait over. I'm not sure how you ended up making your own tape before just using tape to create the taper. 😂

  • @Christ_died_for_your_sins_777.

I know an alternative to that paper-wrap.
You can take artificial sinew or waxed lacing tape and spiral it closely together (closed-loop binding) so it adds more stifness to the rod and will have a more pronounced taper after adding the paracord layers

Thank you very much! When I started building bullwhips in 2020, I came across your videos and they have helped me tremendously. And I'm pretty sure this video will help me build my first stockwhip. Keep up the good work
