More 80s gold. She had some catchy tunes back in the day!

She wrote this song when she was 13. She got a developmental contact with $5000 for her first record. This was few days after her 16 birthday. They released this single on 12/1986. Depends on how the song went is if they rleased an album. Her and her 2 dancers started doing a mini tour ,mostly 3 shows a day 4 nights a week. Her mom became her manager and her sisters were on lights/sounds/wardrobe. The song debuted on billboard charts on 05/09/1987 and peaked at #4 charts sept 5,1987. She would go on to release shake your love that peaked at #4 ,out of the blue #3 all while in high school and #1 foolish beat right after her high school graduation but it was on the charts heading to top of charts while still in high school. After that she had 1 more hit called staying together that peaked at #22 in 1988. She released her 2nd album 01/24/1989 and had 3 major hits: lost in your eyes #1,electric youth #11 ,no more rhyme #17 and we could be together #71.
She released her 3rd album that only went gold that only had one major hit , anything is possible #26.
You have know that Debbie was writing and producing all her own music at the age of 12. She knew how she wanted her music to sound and she has always said if she knew what that button did ,thats why learned the production side of things. Ahe sought out for a professional producer when doing her first album and if you listen to some of the demoes of her major hits the producer or herself didnt change it a whole lot just made it sound more professional sounding. She has a video from here on youtube where she is celebrating the 35th anniversary of only in my dreams on 12/16/2021 and she played the demo of it and i was like wow. Ive always heard the demo of lost in your eyes, who loves ya baby, electric youth ,shake your love, silence speaks from her albums and they sound unpolished but the completed versions of those songs arent changed much. Debbie released 2 demo albums back in 2005 for fans only and just to hear what Debbie was able to do in the writing and production of her music was great within itself.
By the time she signed with AR in 1986 and then got her albums she had already written and demoed close to 200 songs.
Male executives didnt know what to do with a female that could do more then just sing. She was writing, singing, producing which included playing multiple instruments.
If I had to compare her to anyone that was doing that as well with writing ,producing and playing their own instruments i would kinda compare to Prince.

She had 2 #1 hits: "Foolish Beat," and "Lost in your Eyes." I remember this song and video very well growing up, though the title track of the album that featured this song: "Out of the Blue," is a favorite of mine.

If you would have told 13 year old me then in 86' that Deb would know who I am, follow me on social media, talk with her, be on stage with her & other Diamond Debheads & more, I would not believe it. She is the OG pop princess, but a real artist, singer, songwriter, actess, broadway star and more. She continues to put albums out, tour, host ET, be on a variety of tv shows like dancing & skating with the stars. She's made Hallmark movies, will be a guest judge on the new MAX Skate Jams with Jordan Sparks, She own's Liberace's piano....Before Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish etc..There was Deb. Crazy how they didn't let her grow up & be sexy into the 90's but ending the 90's the record companies & public wanted them grown up & be super sexy begining with the teens Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera at the time. You should do a journey on Deb concerning/comparing how the industry works with child stars & the evolution of it all.

Here, Instead of saying it I copied it from google.
Her debut album, Out of the Blue, produced multiple hit singles, including “Shake Your Love” and “Foolish Beat” (which landed her in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest artist to ever write, produce and perform a number one hit song, and she remains the youngest female to hold that record

I forgot where I read it, but Debbie says she won tickets for her and her friend in a radio contest to go see Madonna at live aid in 85. She would’ve been 14 years at the time. So sounds right

Words cannot expressed how much I loved her. Underrated talent. Starred on Broadway for many years. Saw her in Beauty and the Beast and in Cabaret. She was terrific. Met her after the Beauty Beast show. She was a sweetie.

Written by Debbie Gibson. Released in 1987. She grew up with Ricki Lake. They were neighbors.
Gibson met Mariah Carey, then a backing singer for Brenda K Starr. A few years ago, Carey sang this, and Gibson was happy 😊.
Gibson, Carey, Regine Velazquez and Jaya Ramsey were born in 1970.
In the 1980s, Gibson and Martika were the only teen pop singers who wrote their songs. The others depended upon outside songwriters.
Gibson has a heart ❤. She visited a poor family who lived at a cemetery in The Philippines 🇵🇭.
Suggested video 📹: Debbie Gibson sings Lost in about Eyes 👀.

I kinda love it. It’s the perfect little 80s pop song. The beat, the base.. And I’ll give a shoutout to the background singers cause u didn’t this time! As peppy as she may sound, there’s a longingness in those lyrics she wrote. Side note: she went on to play Sandy in Grease in London’s west end in the 90s and broke box office records, and had a UK # 13 hit with ‘You’re the One That I Want’ from the cast album recording.

She was sixteen years when she wrote and recording her debut album. She was laballed the princess of pop in the end of 80 for the teen-pop genre before Britney or Christina Aguilera. This was her debut single of her debut album and was her first top 10 hit (reaching n.4 in 1987).

Debbie was a proto-Britney with a pop career and a successful fragrance line, except when Debbie tried to get sexy in the 90’s the public would just not accept her in that way. As others mentioned she found a home on Broadway but kept the Pop career going and now tours pretty successfully.

Since you’re doing Debbie Gibson, please do Tiffany-Here in my Heart or All This Time. These two girls were the original Britney & Christina.Tiffany has a raspier, more mature voice I think, and was only 15yrs old when her first single was released like Gibson, and I’ve always been a diehard team Tiffany fan. Lol😅

One reason why this sounds like early Madonna is that this was produced by Fred Zarr who played on Madonna’s first album. Debbie was initially marketed as a teen innocent version of Madonna. And if you are looking for Debbie Gibson at her cheesiest check out Electric Youth.

Aw Debbie! I was in 2nd grade when her first album (this song) came out, and it was so cool to love her. Then she wasn't cool, but then years later I realized that she wrote all her songs herself as a teenager and produced many herself. I also don't love a saxophone...... But now that I'm older, she has so many bangers on her first album (this song, Shake Your Love, Out Of The Blue, Red Hot, Fallen Angel), and even some on the second. Foolish Beat is probably my favorite, but everyone else will say Lost In Your Eyes (also a great song, but I like Foolish Beat better)!

Empress this is your 3rd Debbie Gibson reaction! 😂🤣 …but I can understand why you may not remember because it’s been at least 2 years since you reacted to “Shake Your Love” and maybe 3 years since you reacted to “Lost In Your Eyes” 😂. This was by far my favorite Debbie Gibson song and if I am recalling correctly, I believe there was a bit of a rivalry with her and Tiffany when this came out since her hit single “I Think We’re Alone Now” came out around the same time. You have reacted to that one as well! I was also waiting for your reaction to that sax solo! I know how much you love the 80s sax 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the fun reaction!!!!

She was about 16 when this came out and the big hype around her was that she wrote all her own songs. And all the singles were hits.
She and Tiffany, the "mall singer" came out at the same time so they were kinda lumped together as the teen queens of the moment.
I'm about the same age as Debbie and I was massively into Madonna so, yeah, I was obviously far too sophisticated for this 🙄🤣🤣🤣

Unremarkable in many ways except that this kid wrote produced played and performed her own record. Put out a few more records. Did Broadway. Very talented but perhaps a more progressive producer in later albums would have helped.
