This book, I feel, is one that not every person can handle, but if you can you need to read. It's a deep dive into the darkest reaches of real human terror, seeing the true story is based on ACTUALLY HAPPENED.
I read this book a few weeks ago not realizing it was based on a true story. I only realized after reading a description of a trike crime novel. I enjoyed Jack Kethcum’s book. My coworker and I both read it. I stood up during lunch and glared at my coworker with tears and said “she died! You could have warned me! I thought she was gonna make it out!” Riveting book! Edit to add: I wouldn’t recommend this book to alot of my friends. I have about two who will read morbid, gore, vile…
This book was awe inspiring, how he did it was amazing, all other books i'm afraid will pale in comparison. Great review, don't feel bad about re-reading it!
Thank you for your review. I read shortly after watching your video. Everything you said was spot on. It does drain you emotionally but I could see reading it again. I would have trouble recommending it to some people though. Ketchum's writing is incredible. I read Peacable kingdom shortly after and ordered 3 more of his books.
I saw the movie back in 2010 not knowing what i was getting into and it was horrific and made me sick. I did go on to read up about the actual Slyvia Likens case and it makes you nauseous to learn how this young girl was savagely tortured to death. I can say their is no punishment enough to fit this type of barbaric behavior i just hope somewhere in time the animals that perpetrated this crime will feel Slyvia's pain and beyond. This is diffidently a powerful and difficult subject matter to delve into and i would recommend not investigating it before bed. It didn't ruin me but it damn sure haunts me.
Have you read "Let's go play at the Adams'" by Mendal Johnson? A 1974 book with a kinda similar premise. It's probably slightly less explicitly violent but more... well, disturbing on a psychological level. Not a fun reading but definitely makes a strong emotional impact.
A good, thoughtful review. I read the book a couple of years ago and remember liking it. Have you read Shock Value by John Waters? He commissioned an oil painting of Gertrude Baniszewski and had an unveiling party complete with a cake that read, "I am a prostitute and proud of it," written in icing. .
I'll be frank, And no 1 likes frank, It isn't douchey to say that this book is for those who can handle it. This story is distressing, And the average person has been Conditioned to celebrate the cultivation of their own discomfort. If you are the type of person who can handle being distressed, if you can handle it, ithen jack.Ketchum is what you want. It will do its job: you will be horrified.
It sounds like Ruth sees Meg as a girl who was luckier than Ruth was at that age. Which is a lousy reason to do anything even vaguely abusive, but envy and jealousy can make a truly toxic cocktail.
why don't you make a book or movie review, and then explaining a real life facts somehow similar to the fictional one? (I thought about the Hart family, some children reported as well but nothing came out- and it's tragic because is not a story from decades ago :( I mean in solo of course. Because the only bad thing of your reviews is that are way too short.

I haven’t read this or the true crime book based on this case but sometimes it’s important to look into the dark places of the human mind

I completely agree with about the original cover of the book! It's like tacky Goosebumps vibes for a tragic true story.....I didn't get it.

I haven't, but I've heard so much about it that I really need to! :-)
@@13OClockPodcast Definitely would be interesting to hear your thoughts on that one. Cheers!
Has anyone seen the movie Martyrs? Still haunts me.

This is a great idea! I might do this in the future. :-)
