Hi Rachel, I have just watched your video & ordered the 120 set using your link & the discount code still worked so I got the 2 boxes of 24 themed pencils. The sets were already half price & I saved another £18.99. Thank you so much 😊😊
I Rachel. I wanted to say something about the differences that I found between the soft touch and the gold 120 sets. The gold set is supposed to have all the same colors as the original soft set, but there are some significant differences. Although most of the pencils have the same name the actual colors are not the same. Soft touch has an amazing variety of pinks. The gold set has only 2 real pinks, a third color is called pink but is more of a coral. The bottom tray of pencils has about 10 gray shades. Weird colors like: red gray, red gray, green Grey. And so on. Colors that are really unusual. I think that's were the pinks went. They became grays.
I have had this set for about a year. I very much enjoy this set. I have said the same things as you have. This set would greatly benefit from losing some of those 13 yellows and swap them out for a real red that is sorely lacking, browns, and definitely some more grays. Other than that I really enjoy these pencils. Great video! Also the order that is on the inside tin is a pretty good order.
I don't have the soft touch but I do have the 120 Golds, and I was curious if the colors or numbers matched, so I went thru every pencil as you were swatching to see what the differences were. Whew! While the numbers all matched up the same, there are 30 colors in the soft touch that aren't in the Gold, and vice versa. I can see from my tester sheet some of the ones that are similar and are probably just different names, and there are way more grays in the Gold set, including shades like oyster, graphite, argent and blue gray, among others. I was contemplating getting the soft touch set, but I think I'm going to try and work on seeing what soft touch colors match the missing golds first. Very interesting and a fun way to spend the morning over coffee! lol TY for the great review!
How interesting, I like the idea of having more greys! My 72 set of golds has charcoal grey, dove grey, cool grey deep, blue grey, slate grey (which is more like brown) and graphite light. Now I am wondering how many of the 'missing 30' I have in my 72 gold set!!
I have lots of tutorials with the sets I already have - ua-cam.com/play/PLewgurQ60fdhWlHo1z0XqwOy-Bpzxd9hj.html but there will be some soon with this larger set
Thank you for sharing and all the effort you put into creating this video Rachel. I love my Castle Arts Gold Pencils . Do you know if the Golds are the same pencils as this set of 120 Soft Touch you have swatched?
Thank you, someone else has commented here who has the 120 Gold set and says there are about 30 colours that are different and that Golds have more grey colours.
I have this set, not keen on them, most of them break when sharpened and I find that the pigment varies between pencils, and every book/paper I’ve used them on, they either come out grainy or hardly lay down any colour 😞 I should add that I’m not the best with pencils, so it could just be me!
I am sorry you are having trouble. If they are breaking a lot I would contact customer services as it could be that you have a faulty set. They are a harder pencil than some, so not as vibrant and they will need layering up to get colours as strong as you woudl get with a softer pencil such as a prismacolor.
Did you hear me yelling at you that the extra greens were at the bottom of the tray right there by your paper swatch? Yes, I was trying to help you Rachel!!! 😂
This was a fun video to watch. Thank you for taking the time to create and share it 🥰 I love my castle arts pencils. Their customer service is truly remarkable. Other than neutrals, browns, and earthy tones, I can find all shades and tones of colors I want. It would be amazing if they come up with a 150 set, or an additional 24 set that includes more greys, browns, and earthy terra cotta/sanguine type tones 😍. As an aside, I wonder why they changed the name Indian red but not Bengal rose 🤔
I cant be sure, as I only have the 72 set. However, by looking at a photo of the colour listings on the inside of the 120 tin on their website, it looks like there are far less yellows, so I suspect they are not the same colours.

Thank you, I rearranged hem yesterday in the tin - was good fun!!
I got these for my mum's birthday 😄 (in a pencil case) It's still a while ahead, I hope she likes them 🥰
I hope she does too, the purples are amazing!

Thank you Rachel, it was very informative. I only have the botanical and seascape sets. I do like them though and may buy a bigger set in the future x
Thank you!
Looking forward to a tutorial- I just bought this set ☺️👏🏼

Thank you. Yes, there are 12 shades of grey pencils, lots of greens, several reds and yellows. I believe the Alazarin Red is my favorite.

Oh yes, those additional colours would be great! Not sure about the name change!
@@RachelHendersonColouring you are very sweet Rachel 🥰 I wasn’t expecting an answer just ‘thinking out loud’ ❤

Do you happen to know if the color range on the watercolor is the same as the soft touch?
