Confirmed. 6 figure security consultant. I didn't grind like this guy suggests as a noob. But I also didn't know I wanted to get into security. I also didn't land a decent job till my late 30s. A lot of times you can find certifications that are as good or better than a degree. Microsoft az500 or CISSP to name a couple.

Certs are a great.
Our favorite certs have a "hands on" component to them.
CISSP takes years to attain. CompTIA certs will get you in the door. Linux, Microsoft, Cisco, C-EH, and CertNexus are also great to have.. Acquire those and you will get a job, sometimes making as much as 80k starting out.
Cybersecurity overall is just fully skill based job. You require skill, application of knowledge. Just a degree won't save your company from losing millions overnight.

Rn I'm just trying to finish my cyber security minor major because I am double majoring with two majors but I am focused on finishing my cyber security minor once I finish it I am going to apply for a cyber security job next year without a degree
DEFINITELY don’t need a degree to attain a job making 60k or more. Most companies, including federal agencies, could care less of you have a bachelors or masters, UNLESS you want an executive level position. You can’t get those jobs with just a degree though. Gotta have the EXPERIENCE!

3:00 "We have enough mediocre people in security, we don't need more." This statement completely contradicts this talk I saw recently lol ua-cam.com/video/3YmixOGqylY/v-deo.html. That would be an interesting debate.
I suppose the word mediocre is now used as a soft way to say 'shit'. We don't need any more shit people in security however, with the shortage, we're definitely attracting them.
There are no shortcuts if you want to be good :)
An interesting talk, though its main point seems to be avoid burn out.
A debate would be very boring as it would be more of an conversations where we agree on many things.
Someone who is mediocre as I define it is someone who does not continue to learn their craft and due to the rapid changes that happen in security they will become not very good at their job.
What mediocre does not mean is someone who is new to their job and does not know much, I would say that is a noob, and we all were noobs at one time. The objective is to get past that level and strive to become experts, not in everything, as we don't have enough time in our lives to do that, but to become an expert in 1-3 things max.
As long as one is striving to do better in their job and are not just joining the industry for the paycheck, I know many would accept them with open arms, even if they are not an expert yet.
