  • Several issues with idle led us to remove and clean the throttle body on a 2012 Subaru Legacy. While cleaning the throttle body won't solve every idling problem, in this case it did.

PERFECT solution. My 2007 outback wouldn't idle at all. It would drive just fine as long as it was on the highway, or the revs were high, but any kind of stop, sudden or otherwise and it would die. I tried the following with *no* success: Cleaning the MAP, changing the spark plugs and wires, completing the relearn procedure. Nothing. I cleaned the throttle body, and now it works perfectly.

HOŁY fuck ?!! I have legacy iv 3.0 spec b manual. 282k km. Same problems IDLE, new air mass sensor, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new NGK spark plugs and nothing. Car just is way faster but cannot hold idle properly sometimes it turn off sometimes stays on 500-700rpm. Last thing is throttle, let’s clean it !

My Impreza 2014 almost came to a stall with AT OIL TEMP light flashing, but as long as the revs are up, it would drive fine. Issue resolved after cleaning the throttle body.

I’m surprised that you were so liberal spraying the cleaner into the throttle chamber. As a Nissan/Infiniti dealer technician I spray the cleaner on the brush and a shop towel to clean the bore and plate of the throttle chamber. Liberally spraying the cleaner into the chamber could result in sensor contamination.

Hi to all! I have legacy 2007 wiitch ej204 engine 165 hp with manual gearbox. Please, can someone explain why when I`m looking to OBD the throttle position (TP) 10.6% and MAF indications is about 3.8 - 3.9 g/s. Is it correct? Also I had a P0134 P0030 P2109 mistakes but I change lambda probe and brush the throttle after that check is go off, but the car is a bit dull and jerks at low revs. Appreciate and would be thanful for all known information.

Very clear instructions. In my mind I think the throttle body need to be removed to clean probably. Surprise to see a few videos just spray the cleaner without removing it, wonder if it will just a waste of time as not actually making any difference ?!

I agree. The buildup is on the inside and hard to remove without taking off.

Excellent Video. My 2010 Outback has occasional idle stalls after 10 or so seconds at a stoplight. Not frequent at all, but enough to be disconcerting. I asked the Subaru dealer about the throttle body cleaning, and they said they clean it while still bolted onto the engine. This was very disappointing, especially given how easy it is to remove and do the job well. I appreciate your video as I will do it myself.

Yeah, it's fine. The pulse just generates the motor to open or close it according, you're not over working the motor on it so it should be fine. Obviously don't over do it but for this he was totally fine.

Will this resolve the shuddering problem when slowing to a stop? I always assumed that problem may have been due to a torque converter, but I'm cleaning the throttle body tomorrow.
    Thanks for posting!

Not likely to fix a problem like that but worth a shot and no harm in cleaning it up.

I also have the shuddering issue when coming to a stop, and I have a 6MT transmission (yes, I have the clutch disengaged). I have not figured out what it is yet. I have cleaned the TB and tightened up hose clamps, inspected vacuum lines, etc. Still no dice. Seems to almost die when coming to a stop.

@MLOO123 It has not been solved. I am beginning to suspect a vacuum leak in the brake booster. I have changed the check valve there but still shudders when stopping.

Would this help with my 2017 Subaru Legacy with v6 with engine stalling when shifting into gear while in idle rpm’s? Rpm’s just drop to zero and rpm’s are weak while in reverse.

    • @TheOriginalMechanic

Possible I suppose among other causes. It never hurts to try the simple solution first.

Great video. Would one consider leaving the throttle body in a solvent bucket to clean all the nooks and crannies? Or would that damage it?
Also, is the throttle motor fairly reliable or should it be replaced at this point as preventative maintenance?

@@isaaclove6819 what do you mean? I'm watching this video so I can clean my 2012 wagon. Please explain by ECU to recalibrate. Thanks

    • @isaaclove6819
      @isaaclove6819 2 роки тому

@@bengarrido638 so basically your ECU (the brain for your engine) has adjusted to the reduced airflow so it also releases less fuel into the engine so there isn’t a super rich (lower air to fuel ratio) ratio which could damage your engine, but when you clean it the brain or ecu isn’t aware that it’s back to its peak airflow so it automatically adjusts itself to the new amount of airflow, but i recommend just letting it sit in idle for about 10 minutes after you clean it and get the engine started in order for it to correct the ratio. also if you haven’t already cleaned it, make sure the gasket is on correctly and make sure that you don’t damage the throttle control sensor, and if you have a torque wrench, make sure that you tighten it to the specified torque setting, which you can find in both your manual and a quick google search, good luck my friend :)
