If you have a SDRuno receiver, take 15 minutes and watch this video BEFORE you even turn it on. Then keep it handy as you start using the receiver and refer back to it. It is an enormously useful video that will save you a lot of time and frustration!

    Mike,
I enjoyed this video immensely and learned more from it than most all of the others from SDRplay. It answered more of my operational questions and got me going. I am going to search for more videos from this presenter.
I just got my SDRplay Radio RSP1a and Uno Software today. I got it all working with your help.
I have just gotten re-interested in Radio for Broadcast, SWL and Amateur at age 76. I had a Novice Class and Technician Ham License when I was 13. I learned my Electronics, Communications and Signal Intel in the Army Security Agency from 1964-1968. I also held a 2nd Class Commercial License in the late 1960’s.
    Thank You Again!

So glad this has come to my attention. I can't believe this has been available for over a year and I am just now seeing it. This will be very helpful as I learn to use the SDRUno correctly. I had no idea what to do to receive a reasonable signal and this will allow me to learn by doing. Most helpful. Thanks and looking forward to more instruction.

Your video is very good and you explain things very well. I would love to see a video that focuses on the VHF spectrum, scanning it and how to log or record results. Very decent of you you to explain. I have come from a analogue radio with a BFO to RSP1A. I am using the MFJ 1886 RX magnetic loop antenna set about 10 feet above the roofline of my house. Silly question I know but where is the BFO in SDRuno, I am probably looking at it without understanding. Regarding the antenna I use, I know it is a directional antenna, but how directional is it. Seems such a skinny piece of antenna to receive the signal, nothing to do with SDRuno I know by I thought I would ask. I understand the direction of a wire is NE-SW, does that apply to a loop antenna as well. Thanks again for video, I am slowly getting there.

    • @SDRplayHamGuides
      @SDRplayHamGuides  2 роки тому

There is not BFO in SDRuno, Fine tuning (pitch)is done with the main tuning control.
The pattern of loop antennas is figure 8. UA-cam won't let me paste links but you can googl;e "loop antenna receive pattern"

Recently purchased the RSPDuo and just getting started with it. Working great! This was a great SDRUno getting started video! Just what I needed.
I also VERY MUCH appreciated the mention of the antenna types and directions. There is so much info out there on antennas that it's hard for us noobs to find just what we're looking for. So thank you for that as well. I'm currently running a 200' speaker wire loop stretched out all over my backyard. It's working, but I'm sure there's a better way to do it. But for now, I'm just sticking the ends of the loop into the P and N pins of the High-Z input. Not using the GND pin. I do have a NooElec Balun One Nine. Should I be using it instead of the High-Z input?
Lastly, my desire was to listen to the longer wavelength bands in hopes of picking up stuff from Europe. I'm located in Ohio, USA. I've got a lot to learn about picking these kinds of stations out. (I do get loads of Ham traffic from South Carolina and Texas and broadcast stuff from Cuba I believe.) I also do some ADS-B stuff too. But during the daylight hours I would really like to be able to do some P25 trunk tracking, police monitoring. One of the reasons I purchased the Duo was in hopes of being able do it all in the one box, that it included two receivers. Is that something that can be done? Is that coming or is there a place to look to get directions?
Thank you again for the videos. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of them!

Can you think about a video that does a high level tour that shows what sorts of things you find at what frequencies? Your sample rate is within the MAIN panel using ZERO IF mode. This reads like you In LOW-IF mode.
In LOW-IF mode you can't change the sample rate from the fixed sample rate of 2 Mhz. You can only decimate and further reduce that fixed sample rate.

Antenna's can get technical. You have so many variables which affect the receiving performance. Each location is different and what works well for me at my location might not work well for you at all. I would start with an end fed or a dipole made from speaker wire using a nooelec unun
      www.amazon.com/NooElec-Balun-One-Nine-Applications/dp/B00R09WHT6
I have tried many receive only antennas in very noisy environments (New York City and Florida). I settled on a loop antenna. Loops can be pricey but work very well in a noisy environment.
