If you have a SDRuno receiver, take 15 minutes and watch this video BEFORE you even turn it on. Then keep it handy as you start using the receiver and refer back to it. It is an enormously useful video that will save you a lot of time and frustration!

    Mike,
I enjoyed this video immensely and learned more from it than most all of the others from SDRplay. It answered more of my operational questions and got me going. I am going to search for more videos from this presenter.
I just got my SDRplay Radio RSP1a and Uno Software today. I got it all working with your help.
I have just gotten re-interested in Radio for Broadcast, SWL and Amateur at age 76. I had a Novice Class and Technician Ham License when I was 13. I learned my Electronics, Communications and Signal Intel in the Army Security Agency from 1964-1968. I also held a 2nd Class Commercial License in the late 1960’s.
    Thank You Again!

I recently purchased my RSP1a and was extremely excited - only to realize that I was missing out on a lot because I didn't understand the software. Your video is very good and you explain things very well. I would love to see a video that focuses on the VHF spectrum, scanning it and how to log or record results. I live near a military base and would like to use my SDR to monitor military frequencies and record or log results.

Good video, I am going to need to watch it a few more times to soak it in. I'm hoping to use my RSP1 to better see what Ham activity is going on. Then tune the transceiver in to make the QSO. I grew up using a Kenwood TS-830 so this is a very steep learning curve for me. I'll be stringing up a 148 foot Random Wire Antenna with a L-network ATU for the SDR.

Recently purchased the RSPDuo and just getting started with it. Working great! This was a great SDRUno getting started video! Just what I needed.
I also VERY MUCH appreciated the mention of the antenna types and directions. There is so much info out there on antennas that it's hard for us noobs to find just what we're looking for. So thank you for that as well. I'm currently running a 200' speaker wire loop stretched out all over my backyard. It's working, but I'm sure there's a better way to do it. But for now, I'm just sticking the ends of the loop into the P and N pins of the High-Z input. Not using the GND pin. I do have a NooElec Balun One Nine. Should I be using it instead of the High-Z input?
Lastly, my desire was to listen to the longer wavelength bands in hopes of picking up stuff from Europe. I'm located in Ohio, USA. I've got a lot to learn about picking these kinds of stations out. (I do get loads of Ham traffic from South Carolina and Texas and broadcast stuff from Cuba I believe.) I also do some ADS-B stuff too. But during the daylight hours I would really like to be able to do some P25 trunk tracking, police monitoring. One of the reasons I purchased the Duo was in hopes of being able do it all in the one box, that it included two receivers. Is that something that can be done? Is that coming or is there a place to look to get directions?
Thank you again for the videos. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of them!
    Doug

First Thank you Mike, it was a great start to my SDRuno. I was a new Ham in 1950's at 15 years old and in Africa.. you know when all you could get was Ex Military sets with "Valves" well here I am again just taking my Ham test again after 69 years, yes you did the maths I'm 84 ish. One question I have so that I can set up my gear! I have a FT-991A and lots of antennas for different bands and I want to figure out a way to be able to use and track stuff on the SDR and then go back and forth to my Transceiver using the same antenna on that particular band. How can I isolate my SDR enough from being "Fried " when I transmit? Is disconnecting the SDR with a switch enough?... Yes an old Fart but I still climb on the roof to install my Antennas!... Oh I am in Southern California.... john R

Please keep those Tutorials going ,its helping very much to get a robust appreciation for this units capabilities

Very decent of you you to explain. I have come from a analogue radio with a BFO to RSP1A. I am using the MFJ 1886 RX magnetic loop antenna set about 10 feet above the roofline of my house. Silly question I know but where is the BFO in SDRuno, I am probably looking at it without understanding. Regarding the antenna I use, I know it is a directional antenna, but how directional is it. Seems such a skinny piece of antenna to receive the signal, nothing to do with SDRuno I know by I thought I would ask. I understand the direction of a wire is NE-SW, does that apply to a loop antenna as well. Thanks again for video, I am slowly getting there.

Can you think about a video that does a high level tour that shows what sorts of things you find at what frequencies? Also - you might want to think about not using Acronyms in these introductory videos. You have some instructions at the start that used them and I’ve no idea what you meant! But - thanks again.

Your likely is LOW IF mode vs ZERO IF mode (MAIN panel in SDRuno)

My frustration with the sdruno sofware (after over a year trying to learn it) continues. At about the seven minute mark of the introductory video it refers to 'the sample rate'. I don't have that option displayed on my stock, just-installed copy of sdruno. Please a more basic primer for the new user!

    • @SDRplayHamGuides
      @SDRplayHamGuides  5 років тому +1

Your sample rate is within the MAIN panel using ZERO IF mode. This reads like you In LOW-IF mode.
In LOW-IF mode you can't change the sample rate from the fixed sample rate of 2 Mhz. You can only decimate and further reduce that fixed sample rate.
Try changing the IF MODE to ZERO IF.

First of all a BIG THANK YOU for all the support. And now the newbie question. There are times that turning the mouse wheel, moves the red line in the spectrum, and some other times that instead of the red line, the frequency band underneath moves accordingly. I am trying to find out under what conditions happens the one or the other. I prefer the red line moving in the frequency band.

    • @SDRplayHamGuides

The VFO (red line) will move when the LO is locked (MAIN panel, LO LOCK) or if one of the Band buttons is in use via the RX control panel.

I know this is 3 years old, so my comment/questions may be obsolete, but I’m a brand new SDR owner/user. Recently purchased the RSPdx and installed SDRuno. This video was super helpful, but mine doesn’t show the LO in the MAIN SP and I don’t have SR (MHz) or DEC fields in the MAIN window like yours is showing. Maybe a software update and those don’t matter anymore? I’m watching more videos to learn these things. It’s almost like learning a new language. You guys use acronyms and letters like it’s second nature. I’m often clueless.
