wow spent most of my childhood in here, lived on arundel street.tennis football putting cricket getting drunk on the fountain.great days there was a steam roller to play on when i was a kid near the roundabout.story goes it broke down so they left it and painted it bright colours.the year this was filmed i was being born down the road in billinge hospital feb 67...thanks very much for the upload.
When was the last time you saw a grandparent (or even a parent come to think of it) giving their grandchild a piggy back?, I can't remember the last time I saw that. Today the granddad would be in his mid 40s-early 50s, probably bald headed, overweight with a beer belly with designer clothing on and with his smartphone glued to his head whilst the grandkids play on. And no old people in mobility scooters anywhere and we're supposed to be living longer and healthier lives today? yeah right lol.
I agree. And when was the last time you saw a granddad (I presume he's a grandad in the film) swinging his grandson around like that?. Too scared of doing anything in case he falls lol.
Completely agree with you there. I'm sick of seeing that stuff in children's parks, all rubber matts and fences around the thing. I used to go to a caravan park near Rhyl in the 80s and 90s where kids swings and climbing frame was sat in just concrete right next to the car park, no fence surrounding it or anything, obviously ain't like that now otherwise they would've shut the place down. Health and safety has gone mental, it's all about control IMO. I think it's about normalising children and young kids to be conditioned and accept being constantly under supervision everywhere they go where they can't use their own imagination.
Forever spoilt by 'wondershare'. Thanks!

I feel sad for anyone who doesn’t remember these kind of people.
Good local history film cozzer
The park keeper who appears around 1 minute 30 is Dick Atherton; he lived in Billinge Road
thanks for sharing ;)
Lovely. Pity nowadays most parents are on there mobile phones while the children play
