A lot of the feedback in the SGG Discord reads to me less like constructive criticism and more “make the game fully tailored to my very specific desires and perspective”.
that's what happens when the second game feels entirely different from the first game so ofcourse many fans would want the first game but improved upon
@@yousef858 Hades 2 feels almost exactly the same to me. The biggest difference is the Dash. But enemies, boons, weapons, ect all feel like a sequel to the first game.
I wonder if some of the discourse around Hades 2 weapons is because they are not "traditional" weapon types. Players have an idea how a sword, shield, bow, etc should feel in Hades 1 based on other games. However, players don't have that for half the weapons in Hades 2. They could be making assumptions on how they think the torches/skulls should work, and not changing their play styles once using them. The daggers/axe seem to be the most popular as well.
I definitely think that's a big factor to the weapon discourse. Argent Skulls are easily the most obtuse weapons to figure compared to the rest which is why players end up not liking it. Argent Skulls attacks do feel clunky to use and can feel bad if you're not playing it optimally which can leave a player thinking "the weapon needs to change not my play style".
I mean i can agree that skull is one of the less smooth-feeling weapons to use, especially against something like the torches, but i never considered it breaking my enjoyment of the game, just that you cant simply play the same as you do across all the weapons. Theres many builds with the skull that are fun across multiple hammer options for all aspects imo.
I think the torches are the less smooth feeling weapon. Especially how the attack/hold attack works and are integrated in each other feel wonky at times
EDIT - Got the same 2 hammers I got, lol. Freaking busted how much damage it winds up doing. I can also confirm the Possessed Array damage appears to have gone under Attack damage for me as well. Meanwhile the last run I had in this game was a Mel Skull run... and it was my first ever run with the weapon. It was outright one of the strongest builds I ever had & I easily won. And this was after dodging the weapon for my entire playtime until then. Hera attack to make the explosions even more potent, grab any random other curse for your cast, and just use it as a killzone, rinse & repeat. It's also one of the few weapons wherein getting one of the ranged cast modifiers can actually be a benefit, as you just add it to the start of your combo. It's a very good weapon that I find manages to emulate Hades 1 cast-builds but in weapon form. I sorta have a feeling the person leaving that criticism also didn't like how the bloodstones required you to pick them up.
i absolutely feel the same way... a couple days ago i picked up mel skull after really enjoying playing skull before i unlocked aspects (for some reason i forced myself to just play persephone and medea and a lot of those runs were failures lol) but then i had 2 back to back 16/26 fear clears on the surface and underworld and now i think it might be back to being one of my favourites?? ive recognised its resemblance to hades 1's cast since i first used it and i absolutely love cast builds so like. it feels crazy to me how more people playing hades 2 dont actually recognise that its a homage to one of the first games core mechanics
I remember you made another video with this title of "people don't like the skulls" and a lot of the comments were confused because they had never seen anyone complain about it before everything is so silly when you miss out on a little bit of info from somewhere where you didn't see it haha
I didn't like it at first. I made the mistake of thinking it was a ranged weapon. Once i started using it point blank, you can get fast and huge damage. It's the running to pick it up that causes problems, but that isn't a design problem. It is a player use problem.
The Recall animation is a problem. Not even instant, and way too slow. In a room full of small fast mobs scattered everywhere, that's a dead sentence both by time and numbers.

Wow, how bizarre to see a video responding to my feedback! A shame my 2nd post regarding this wasn't shown but I posted it a couple days after my first feedback after you must of recorded(love your videos). I never thought the weapon was weak, I thought it was unfun to play with the attack, mostly because of how long the skulls take to drop. The codependency on the hammers I am speaking to, is it feeling codependent on hammers to feel fun to use at all. Since posting that, I made a commitment to give the weapons another chance, and I posted my feedback regarding that experience... I still think the skulls attacks need some tweaking, but I really am enjoying supergiants vision for the weapon, it IS fun in early game if you are willing to use omega special to pick up skulls far away from you or spamming them point blank for the quicker pickup. Apologies if my feedback was confusing

In total honesty, I always thought that Mel skull + aphro attack would become the speedrun meta because of how easy it is to set up and it's consistent damage. It has really good AoE damage (for just pressing one button) and great single target, and if you get the rhythm down correctly you can pretty much just never run out of skulls. It has some really good followups too that just take it even farther and keep it ahead of the curve. And despite what a lot of people said, I don't think it's nearly as hammer or rarity/pom dependent as people say. For speedruns I can see some pickiness with only going for Epic/Heroic attack but for casual runs Rare works really well. Plus the poms scale super duper well with Aphro attack. It was the combo that got me through my first clear of this game and got me all my clears up to 40 heat so idk. Maybe there is something major I'm missing.
My biggest annoyance w Argent skull is when I fight the sea serpent midboss in Oceanus and my skull flies into a corner cause the snake moved position 😔😔😔 Apart from that I love perse aspect
that happened with chronos lmfao the skulls deadass disappeared and wouldn't appear again after a while. so if you had the arcane-less fear run... you're kinda fucked
mel skull with aphro attack is my go-to build for 32 fear and higher. even better if i can get bolstered and possessed array. with just those four core build aspects i can clear the 5 minute timer on the surface EZ
I literally build around possessed array for Mel Skull, even after the nerf. 32 Fear Surface, zero problems. It's far better than Eos or Circe, if we're trying to find the worst aspect.
Skull is a VERY safe weapon, one of my first clears on Chronos without learning yet his patterns was Skull and Heph attack (A really hated combo) it really helped me to burst and kite doing a really clean clear, it's really different and relies on certain boons like most weapons
Beat 32 fear today for the first time! Aspect of Than with an absolutely disgusting omega attack build (weed killer, flutter strike, and +144% damage from Chaos infusion). Weirdly enough, I couldn't manage to get Aphro's legendary even though I had all the requirements and there weren't any other boons I could take (it literally gave me spare wealth even though the legendary was elegible. I know Aphro legendary is kinda bad but that would be an extra 36% Chaos damage).
Number one skull enjoyer here, got some of my first clears on this weapon and I have no idea why everyone hates it?? The explosions feel so good and the I-frames in the omega special are super helpful
I really enjoy all the Nocturnal Arms, unlike the Infernal Arms where I hated the Shield and the Bow...In my humble opinion...the issue is with the Aspect of Melinoë...It’s usually the least interesting option for most weapons.
@@tokilladaemon For sure!! I also felt that every weapon at H1 had that one aspect that was really good (so I didn't care about that rest!)...H2 invites you for a lot more experimentation..!
The aphro-mel skull combo was probably my easiest 32 fear run (apart from broken gain+charon) back in update 2 i think, back when torches were really bad (might have even been update 1) and the 0 magic fear was almost required simply because it was the original aspect that just doesn't require any setup. You get aphro attack, origination and you're good to go. It's kinda boring and the new mel axe now fills the same niche now, but this still is just a really solid aspect
I think removing the need for manual pickup would be a big improvement to the skull. Shooting skulls at enemies is awesome. Picking up skulls ends up being kinda tedious though. The special feels boring to me though, its too reminiscent of the shield.
That's why Aphro AA are a good pick, but with a lot of spread out mobs, the clear speed of this artifact makes it feel annoying to play. I usually take hera special to counter act that weakness.
I just got the game last month; this was the weapon I first got to Chronos with, and I beat him that run. I've since gotten to him a few more times with other weapons, but haven't gotten that second win yet. I don't know how much of that was using this weapon vs the build I had, but if people hate this I don't understand why.
I like the skulls but i would really like it if we could attack while moving. I dont like that Mel stops running everytime she throws the skull. For the same reason i never liked using the cast in Hades 1, it feels stiff. I always thought it would be better if Zag extended his hand while running and that blood bolt sort of flourished out of his hand. But thats just my 2 cents.

I just realized that the hidden aspect is probably going to be hades cast from hades 1... well, anyway, maybe it should have a dashe-strike, like he said. The dash-strike could be Mel slamming the skull into the ground to have it explode on her. Could make it work with wide grin, too. Make it to where the skulls don't have to bounce for the auto return to make it more viable. It sounds like, and looks like, the problem is more about how it feels to use rather than how much damage it does, as it does feel a little clunky. One of the problems is the aspect of medea, as it works VERY differently from the other two. I'm not sure how you can make it feel less clunky without going all in on making it close range despite being a long range weapon.
I feel that the skull took the longest for me to get used to, so I didn't like it much at first. Fortunately there was this guy on UA-cam who made some videos that were very helpful.

i think aspect of medea is better.because you can charge 3 before going in. there isn't a whole reason to run regular attack skulls. like part of benefits of skull regular is suppose to be that you can shoot skulls at range. but pick up mechanic makes unreward to use where only play for it is to run omega special but at the point, why not run 3rd skull? so 2nd skull is better if your playing close. 3rd skull is better on everything that first skull does in gameplay leaving 1st aspect with no real strength other than running omega attack but base damage scaling of omega attack is really underwhelming to the point that best play with it is ignore every attack boon and running heph blast boons. i think first aspect could get the skulls automatically come back to you without -1 skull drawback than maybe people would run 1st skull. the current aspect passive could be something like you gain 10% critical chance for every skull not in your possession. so maybe you can shoot all 2 skulls and than charge omega special in 3rd skull with that hammer or you could use all 3 skulls in 2nd hammer and gain crit chance.
@@dodang_9147But you can attack way faster/more frequently with aspect of Mel and get more Power per Shell fired and not yet retrieved. So I don't think Medea is better overall. Maybe in damage output at once, but not in damage per second.
I havent recently used the skulls but when i did use it last, i found the attacks to be more fun than the omega attack. Also what is the REDACTED game being talked about?
Possessed array is good already but it can get absolutely cracked because it gets the benefits of stuff like weed killer, bloodline, apollo ledge etc but the 10 magick cost doesn't increase

i think aspect of medea is better.because you can charge 3 before going in. there isn't a whole reason to run regular attack skulls. like part of benefits of skull regular is suppose to be that you can shoot skulls at range. but pick up mechanic makes unreward to use where only play for it is to run omega special but at the point, why not run 3rd skull? so 2nd skull is better if your playing close.
I love the skulls. Don't get the hate. Typically I'll use the special to scoop up my skulls.
this hammy person needs to get a grip, SHEESH
...because I didn't like a weapon's basic attack and posted about it? Okay then fuck me ig
I just don’t like the skull ammo mechanic, I don’t find it fun, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t really strong, it’s just not my thing
I havent recently used the skulls but when i did use it last, i found the attacks to be more fun than the omega attack.
Also what is the REDACTED game being talked about?
A hades like roguelite named [REDACTED] set in the calisto protocol universe. It's actually pretty good. Very similar to Hades but with guns AND melee
My least favorite weapon, I can't bring myself to play with that crap.
Athena's boon where you get a DD every location gets BUFFED if rare crop hits it! YOU GET 4 DD EVERY LEVEL!!!!
what? Rare crop just improves the rarity to heroic, and rarity reduces the amount of primed magic it takes, it doesn’t give you more DDS
@@tuckerensmenger8001 The interaction between Stalwart Stand and Rare Crop is currently bugged; it behaves exactly as OP describes.
@ oh fr? My bad then, I could have sworn i’d gotten that combo before. That’s interesting!
Possessed array is good already but it can get absolutely cracked because it gets the benefits of stuff like weed killer, bloodline, apollo ledge etc but the 10 magick cost doesn't increase
Most hated weapon for sure
argent skull is strong its just a really boring playstyle imo. maybe i haven't given it enough chances
W
for me i hate the omega attack its not fun at all
but the normal attack is my third favorite after axe and coat
Mid people hate it cause they dont understand it
Opinions can absolutely be wrong lol.
Some people have the opinion that the earth is flat. They are categorically wrong.
Opinions on matters of TASTE cannot be wrong.
Thinking is like the one thing we are born able to do. Let's all do it more, yeah?
