i made it and it's BEAUTIFUL, I adore it. I still am having a lot of trouble hooping around my waist but can hoop around the knees oddly enough. I'm going to keep trying. Thank you for all you do! xoxo
:) I love all your hoop videos! Please post more beginner tutorials since I am a beginning hooper! I love all of the trick videos and I would also love a great video on flow!
You are a good teacher. I am wondering what size hoop would be easiest for off the body tricks and reversals, isolations, etc... I started hooping with a 36 diameter hoop from the gym with some duct tape that is worn off. I'm not you, but I'm getting pretty good and I'm not sure what size to go from here.
Well thanks for putting up with the mic. I find it so much easier now to record video outside. Before, if it was too loud outside, I sometimes had to wait to record video.
That's a great question. I would recommend a 1/2" sized tubing for your hoop. 36" is an ok diameter, but you could go smaller or bigger if you'd like. What's the is your tubing size of your hoop, width and psi rating?
To answer your question, I don't know. If I had more info about the hoop, such as a picture of what it looks like, I could potentially advise you in fixing your hoop. If your hoop was made with pvc pipe or some kind of tubing and if the piece that keeps coming out is a coupling that connects the hoop together, my recommendation would be to drill a hole into your tubing where the coupling keeps falling out and put a rivet (5/32" diameter) into your hoop to make the coupling stay in place.
I used to make and sell collapsible hoops online, but now only do I consider making and selling collapsible hoops locally. However, if you are wanting a hoop outside of the Seattle area, I do not have any recommendations at this time.
You could also use polypro tubing. In the beginning, I don't think it makes too much of a difference to use polypro or pvc. Sounds like you are on the right track making your own hoops.
hello again , I made two large hoops from pvc - what else could I make hoops from? or is pvc best for me ? ((im trying to learn tricks and be a hoop dancer, please help its all too new to me :) )) thanks hoopsmiles !
hi i am a beginner at hooping, i was wondering which is better, a normal hoop or a thick hoop with massagers withing the hoop? my friends use the second one but i got bruises at my sides when i used them so i wanted to make sure which is more recommendable for a workout as well,
Hi, I've got a 43" hoop with grip tape. I'm not sure the exact weight but it's quite heavy. I'm trying to learn roll overs and body popping but the hoop just seems massive against me (I'm 5"2 and petite), Should I try to progress using this hoop or buy a polypro or something lighter/smaller? Love you videos :) Thanks.
I could use a good recommendation or an intermediate hoop! I'm 5'6" on the slim side and with a small waist (22-23 inches). I've been researching HDPE or polypropylene but I can't decided on a size. I have a 42" one now but it's so heavy I'm all bruised up.
Hi, You're videos are fantastic! Thank you so much for uploading, I have been learning so much from your videos! I need your help though. This is going to sound strange but I don't think I'm doing right. I have been hurting my hands as I hoop, getting really wild bruises on the side of my hand and between my thumb and index finger where the hoop hits me as I spin in lasso. Is this normal or is there a technique I am missing? Also, I have been using a water based hoop from CVS or something like that and its wasn't bad to start with but I am never going to improve with this hoop. I am having trouble picking out like a legit hoop to use. Is there any hoop you can suggest to me? Thanks so much!
As far as the bruising goes, I'm not a doctor so I don't have advice on that topic. However, sometimes wearing protective material over the area you plan to hoop on can sometimes be helpful in reducing bruises. As far as selecting a hoop, generally hoops you buy in a store are not the best hoops. I recommend buying a handmade hoop that doesn't have anything inside it.
ok so im a beginner and got a hoop that is the recommended size for beginning but then detaches to become a smaller hoop later,. BUT as ive been practicing one of the detachable parts keeps getting looser and now it comes to the point where it comes off when im hooping!!! I spent $45.00 on this hoop, is there a way to keep it attached or am i missing something because it did come with a small piece but never said what to do with it. Please help!!?
I have put extra weight into hoops before, using 4 metal couplings spaced out to add some weight into the hoop. Personally, I don't like hoops with water in them because the water moves around throwing off the balance of the hoop. I prefer hoops with weights to be stationary weights.
If you already have a hoop, then one way you can add weight to it, is to buy small weights from the store and attach them to the outside of the hoop using tape. I would recommend using 4 weights spaced evenly in different spots around the hoop. That's one way you can transform your hoop into a weighted hoop.
hey :) I just have a quick question. I have really long legs so my hoop doesn't measure reach my belly button. should I be getting a bigger one anyways or just stick with this one?
I'm looking to buy a hula hoop off of etsy for beginners you said to get the 3/4 but they have 3/4 30 all the way up to 3/4 40. Which one would you recommend
I'd say the same rules in this video would still apply. A 3/4" sized hoop, between your belly button to chest in diameter or larger, could potentially work. Then again, people's preferences could be different. Do you have access to different sized hoops you could test out?
Yes, I think duct tape is somewhat different than gaffer tape on the hoop. Personally if you are using a non reflective metallic tape, then I would go with gaffer tape for extra grip.
Hello! I'm sorry to have to ask but I'm thinking I need to ask someone with experience... I am sort of at an intermediate level of hooping. I can do back-handed grabs and at one point was able to do the vortex. I think I could do it better with a better hoop! This may become a novel, I apologize! :( I have two kid-sized "wave" hoops currently (a bit too small to do tricks well on) and two larger much-too-light store-bought hoops from childhood. It's too late to check the dimensions on them currently to measure. Is there any recommendation on sizing and PSI for intermediate style hoops? I'm also on the shorter side (about 5'3" barefoot) and skinnier as well. I'm thinking "the dance weight" (100 PSI) may be better so it's easier to grab and was thinking 3/4" but there are so many options! I've borrowed other hoops before but can't remember their measurements, and that was about 3 years ago and I'm no longer in touch with those people. I know it's common for a hooper to have multiple hoops... Do you have any suggestions on PSI/dimensions for a nice "set" maybe? Furthermore, it seems like a 100 foot coil would be the best for making multiple hoops (but that would be all in the same PSI). If I were to make hoops for other people (not necessarily experienced, I'm thinking like craft fair/locally), would you recommend the 160 PSI? or 1" 100 PSI? This seems to a common suggestion for beginners... So much to take in and my brain is fried. Any help, suggestions, tips, whatever appreciated. Thank you!
I'd say 3/4 inch, 160 or 100 psi tubing would be a good tubing to use when making beginner hoops to sell. As far as an intermediate level hoop, it's tough to say what that might be or if one even exists because it is so much based on perception. I do know that if you want to improve your hooping, downsizing your hoops is generally the way to go. Instead of viewing it as the need for an intermediate size hoop, perhaps just using a smaller hoop than the one you are already using will suffice. Once you have mastered a smaller hoop, you can continue to downsize to even smaller hoops. Hopefully this was helpful :-)
hi! My boyfriend has buy me a hula hoop of 100 cm. My waist is 66 cm and my hip is 86. i'm 166 cm. I don't hunderstand very well inglish, what dimension you recommendations for me? this hula hoop go from flor to above my navel. it's ok for start?
Before I answer your question, I need to know more information to give you a recommendation. What do you plan to use the hoop for? Are you looking to learn multiple hoop tricks? Do you plan on hooping for purposes beyond working out, such as becoming a hoop dancer, etc.? What parts of your body do you plan on hooping on, your waist, chest, elbows, legs, feet, hands, etc?
i made it and it's BEAUTIFUL, I adore it. I still am having a lot of trouble hooping around my waist but can hoop around the knees oddly enough. I'm going to keep trying. Thank you for all you do! xoxo
awww this is the best tutorial ive seen yet! i love you! thank you for posting! im making my first hoop today and cant wait to get to work

As always thank you for your clear explanations. It's only kinda weird with the mic, because I'm used to your voice coming from farther away lol.
Hey did you get a chance to make that hoop? How did it work out?
You're welcome. That's awesome that your hoop turned out beautiful :)
Thanks for the awesome video. Loved it!
You could also use polypro tubing. In the beginning, I don't think it makes too much of a difference to use polypro or pvc. Sounds like you are on the right track making your own hoops.
Is there any site where i can buy hula hoop? I'm a Brazilian hooper, but they don't have so many hula hoop options as i wish they have...
hello again , I made two large hoops from pvc - what else could I make hoops from? or is pvc best for me ? ((im trying to learn tricks and be a hoop dancer, please help its all too new to me :) )) thanks hoopsmiles !
Hi! So I made my own hoop With 1 inch tubing. I was just wondering if using duck tape would be much different then using gaffer tape.

Also, would you possibly be able to point me in a direction where you can buy a collapsable hoop.

Hey thanks. I'll probably be posting some more beginner tutorials soon. How is the hooping going?
HI Hoopsmiles! (: can you tell me where i can buy a good hoop?

It's 2021 now, are these still available?

I am a very petite girl so I was wondering what size of hoop would you recommend for a beginner that is 4'10" tall?
I like a little weight in hoop. What would you suggest and how to add the weight. I hear you say add the tape. Is there another way or is this best

Ilike your videos, ty. greetings from germany :)
hoopsmiles What size hoop is that super large hoop??? im thinking of making one!! lol
As far as the collapsible hoop that comes apart, I cut a hoop into 4 sections of similar size.
Thanks :)

In India, generally hoops for Adults are not available. But thanks to Nakshatra hula hoops, now you can buy hoops of any size from hulahoopsindia.com
That's great to hear!
