  • In this video we are on the Kenai River in Alaska flossing for sockeye salmon as they run up the rivers to spawn. Action was fast & furious, and we walked out heavy with a bunch of fresh salmon fillets to enjoy over the fire that evening at our campsite. Grateful to do what I love with the people I love.

Please note that this footage was from the summer of 2023 when limits were raised to 6 per person. Make sure you know the limits and regs every time you go out. I've since upgraded my gopro, so please forgive the poor audio issues at some points throughout the video.

My #1 salmon is Columbia River spring Chinook. So fatty and delicious!

I don’t know what “bids” are…we typically use a 10wt fly rod. 25-40 lb line, about 6 feet of leader with the weight/sinker above the same distance up the leader from a hook..just a single bare hook.

if you keep the rod down towards the water you can control the fish better. Great videos.

Thanks for the tip and good point you don’t really want them to jump

@@JacksonBaumgartOutdoors Not a problem took us awhile to figure that out as well we usually just burry the rod tip sideways in the water it helps a bunch. Good luck to you guys.

Also by keeping the rod horizontal with the water you can also limit the we😮guts and hook from coming back and hitting you in the eye. Sun glasses a must. A guide at our outfitter lost eye last year week before we got there. Someone had rod high and he just lowered his glasses. I’ll be there in 26 days.
