    A couple of things I didn’t mention in the video !
    I believe I played on a mix of of “Just the Story” and “Story and Sword” simply because I wanted to not stress too much. Of course this absolutely affected my combat thoughts and in hindsight I wish I had played a higher difficulty, particularly for boss fights.(I’ve played too many souls games this year though and was just tired of banging my head against walls lol). For the DLC I will do this for sure.
    In terms of comparing a ten year old game to modern mechanics, I definitely think that’s fair, just remember the whole Gotham Knights vs Arkham Knight discussions, and I don’t think I did that tooo much here really.
    And yess I mispronounced Dandelion, blame the audio book of the Last Wish I listened to lol
    thanks for the feedback so far!

      you play on toddler mode dont touch alchemy at all and dont touch sign builds and then you complain about the combat being simple? you can also decide to postpone the side quests for later if you feel "disconnected" from the plot, also complaining about having to track or find things with the witcher senses is pretty much crying about having to play the game. Also congratulations on getting the bad ending and then complain about it, you should stick to live service games theyre more for people like you.

    Can't really say you played the game "wrong" because that is of course subjective. But I do feel you rushed and altered your experience of the game too much to experience everything the game has to offer. It's fair to have personal preferences, but critiquing The Witcher 3's combat and gameplay after playing on the easiest difficulty is like judging a gourmet meal after only eating the bread basket. On the lower settings, the game naturally simplifies mechanics like stamina management, potion use, and dodging to make it accessible for casual players or those focused on the story. But it’s on higher difficulties, like 'Blood and Broken Bones' or 'Death March,' that the game truly shines.
    Combat requires precise timing, strategic use of signs, managing potions and decoctions, and exploiting enemy weaknesses based on lore from the Bestiary. These elements make Geralt feel like the seasoned monster hunter he’s meant to be. The gameplay experience is designed to reward preparation and tactical thinking, which are less pronounced on easier modes.
    Dismissing the gameplay without engaging with its depth is missing the point of what makes The Witcher 3 such a standout RPG. - you haven’t truly seen the game's best side.
    I also really understand why the urgency of the main story might make you feel like you need to rush through it-Ciri is in danger, and the stakes are high. But The Witcher 3 is designed to balance that sense of urgency with the depth and richness of its world. The side quests aren’t just filler; they’re integral to understanding the characters, culture, and moral complexities of the world. Some of the best writing in the game happens in those quests.
    Skipping the side quests because of the main story's urgency is like sprinting through a museum to get to the gift shop. You miss the details, the nuance, and the moments that make the journey unforgettable. The game encourages you to take your time and immerse yourself in the world-not because Geralt’s slacking off, but because being a Witcher means balancing duty with humanity. So, next playthrough I encourage you to give yourself permission to slow down and savor the richness around you. You’ll find it enhances the main story rather than detracting from it. Much like cyberpunk, which has a similar predicament of "Holy cow I am going to die soon I need to resolve this quickly"
    Anyways that is my rant because (If you couldn't tell) this is one my all time favorite games, I hope you return to at least try some side quests or at least the DLC's, thank you for taking the time to play and make the video, cheers.

      @@ashortgingerI get that but it’s a mindset you can’t have with this game. This game is a full course meal you have to sit down be patient and chew each bite slowly to relish ever little flavor. The hardest difficulty and doing all the side quests is where this game just blows one away.

      @@Zebrahhh Ngl, I played and finished The Witcher 3 at the hardest difficulty (as my first playthrough) and in retrospect I really feel like I just found some cheese strats that worked and ended up cheesing my way through the game. I really didn't enjoy the gameplay aspect of TW3. I also heavily prefer First Person games, I think there is a pretty good First Person mod for TW3 out since a while now so I should probably give it another chance with that.

    To me this will always be the best game ever. I have finished it 13 times now, and none of my playthroughs were the same, there are always possibilities for a twist here and there, especially when it comes to secondary quests that tie with the main quest. It's also such an appeasing game, you just travel the beautiful lands of either the continent or Skellige, with the masterful music score the game offers, encountering all sorts of characters and locations. The big point for me is definitely the World and characters. I don't know how to explain it precisely, but out of all the games I have played, I never got as attached to video game characters as I did for this game. Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 came close, but there is something so credible about the world, and I think most of it is because the studio that made it are really fans of the books, respecting it and adding their twists from time to time, and it works, you can feel that they cared about portraying the characters in a way that both reflects the books and adds a bit more to them. I remember when I got the game in 2015, at release, I was not that amazed with it, to the point that I didn't even finish it. Then when I gave it a second try in 2018, with a bit more maturity and thought, I fell in love with it, and it has been my number 1 game eversince, and I don't think it will ever change. I can point some aspects of it that are not that great, such as all the loot / crafting system, the horse controls ofc even if you get used to it, the short amount of NPC's face variety, and other, but none of that pull the game down for me because I just love it so much. Great video, I understand your point of view.

      @@ashortginger Also, now that is just a personal thought, but I think mods ruin games. Sure, they make the game look better, they add content etc, but for example, I used to love Skyrim when I was younger, still do but don't play it that much anymore, and once I discovered mods, I started modding the heck out of it, to the point where, whenever I hopped on the game I would not have as much fun as I did before. I thought it was just because I knew the game by then, had played it a lot and all, but in june of last year, I decided to replay it, with no mods on. Not one. I first thought it would be fun for like maybe about 20 hours, but I completely re-fell in love with it, and poured in 300h that felt like 50. I think mods, no matter how good it may be, ruin the games, they erase the feel of it, the identity of the game. I realise now that I never got bored of skyrim, I got bored of modding it so much I couldnt even recognize the game of my youth.

    Witcher 3 WAS amazing, almost 10 years ago. I can't believe it's actually been that long. I love the witcher franchise, but I'm not a crazed fanatic, and I know this game has frustrating issues sometimes. If we talk about the games, then I, actually, liked Witcher 2: Assasin of kings a bit more.
    I've read all the books several times in two languages, but what made Witcher 3 amazing for me, is the final and actual conclusion of Geralt's story. The end of his (and my) journey. It's done. And thank the mother nature, that the ending wasn't anywhere near GoT finale. It was a heartwarming, wholesome ending. Have some feels, be thankfull, and move on.

  • @2rato
    @2rato 21 день тому +3

    The thing with Witcher 3 is. It's noticeably a book adaptation and sequel. If you've read the novels, which unfortunately have a very open ending. You realize how perfectly Witcher 3 picks up many of the storylines and leads to cool conclusions. You also have an emotional connection to the characters from the books and know who Geralt is and how he would behave.
    From a gameplay point of view, Witcher 3 is a good series, but not really a good game. They've improved immensely with Cyberpunk, which is also fun to play and more motivating.
    And if you played it back then, the thing was just incredibly good. The first time a fantasy open world like that. Ubisoft didn't completely adopt the formula for nothing.

    I generally love this game, on par with cp2077 but Witcher 3 is more sentimental to me, it's the first Witcher game I played and one of the first really big and good open worlds since I didn't really play much games in the past, my mom was strict about it. I'm also Polish so I often get those nice surprise with our culture and mythology references which only reinforce my love for the game, and it's understandable that someone who's not Polish would miss out on that. That said, most of such references and also a lot of best content is in side quests. So, of course it depends on how you whish to play the game I'm not going to tell you how you're supposed to be enjoying your time, but you're missing out on a lot of best stuff by focusing on the main story over the side content.
    Regarding that feeling you had about narrative telling you to find Ciri as fast as possible and it just being unnatural to do the side content then. I have a feeling that it's not actually bad, it's mostly the game/map size warping the perspective (the show warps it even more). I just read the books (I'm towards the end of the last one) and it takes a lot of time for Geralt to move anywhere, he has to live of something, he encounters a lot of people and dilemmas, and even though he's in a hurry he has to do a lot of stuff to even survive. In the game you can cross the entire map pretty fast, in the show they don't even bother with the thing called distance, but in the books it takes months to move from one place to another while he's having visions of Ciri, her life is in danger, she's still pretty much a child at this point in the story, so he's in even more hurry then at the beginning of the game, but there is nothing he can do and he just has to do contracts to live of something. When I thought of it this way, suddenly, playing Gwent tournaments didn't bother me anymore ;).
    Lastly, regarding combat, alchemy and sign usage being a part that you can skip. I'm not trying here to have a go at you, but what difficulty did you play on? From my experience when I played my first playthrough on a medium/slightly harder difficulty (I don't remember well which one I played back then), I also didn't really bother with alchemy and stuff, but on the highest difficulty it makes much more sense and is almost mandatory. It's like you said, the basic combat is rather simple, the rest of combat system can be avoided, but it's mostly just so the casual players don't have to spend shit ton of time searching for ingredients, doing contracts to get special monster parts, etc. But if you're willing to spend some time on it, and play on higher difficulty to get the motivation of it being useful, you can do really nice prep work, builds, and use the mechanics to it's fullest. That's just the only drawback (or a plus, depends how you look at it), it's not necessary to do any of it if you want to have a chill experience and just do the main story. Also later on in Blood and Wine you have more equipment which helps you refine your builds and specialize more.

    Witcher 3's weakest bit was always it's main story. The side quests, the world, the little details along the way are what make this a legendary game. Cyberpunk has a much stronger main story with not as strong side content, until Phantom Liberty, so it does make sense to me that you found it underwhelming.
    That said, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine... Really recommend you play those

    • @domanerus
      @domanerus 20 днів тому

      Definitely, came to the comments to say the exact same thing. Main story is good, especially Bloody Baron, but towards the ending it feels a bit rushed and not as polished. But the side content, my God, it's so good. The story of Hearts of Stone, all the simple Witcher contracts which don't seem special at all at the beginning, you see the contract and think it's just one of the usual in modern games time filler, but when you get into it, it turns into this beautiful, handcrafted story, heartwarming, or heartbreaking.
      But honestly I think it just perfectly catches the feeling of books as well. I'm around the mid way of the last book right now, and it sort of feels the same, the real things that forge Geralt are all those "side quests", all those interactions with the world, with those smaller characters which don't seem all that important at first, but the way Geralt treats them is what shows who he really is.

    The fact that people in the comments get salty at someone for being slightly disappointed by the game shows that they're not being objective about it. But then again, one could argue that if a game makes people so emotional that they can't think about it objectively, then surely there's something special about it.
    Personally I remember playing it after seeing so many people saying it's the best game of all time, and finding a lot of flaws in the gameplay, even for the times. But years later when I think about the game, I mostly remember about how good the atmosphere is. The music, the visuals, the environments, the characters... the whole vibe of the game is pretty much perfect, I don't think I've seen a fantasy game come close to achieving something similar.

    The issue is the fact that it took elements of better games but it was all around just passable. Having good side stories can't save a video game for me. It will always start with the gameplay. I can return to games with bad stories, old school games had no stories or were chalk full of cliche or throwaway stories. I don't return to games with mediocre or passable games just for the story.

    It's definitely one of those games I don't... get. I have the reverse preference with the series to many of the fandom and like 1 the most. It's a deeply janky game but it has an almost imsim like mechanical design. Unlike in Witcher 3, preparations and research by the bonfire before heading out are critical to success. Leveling is much slower but every skill point gained through leveling and side questing feels like making a difference. By the end of the game, I can recall what a dozen of potions do and what most enemies are weak to. I tried to convert the knowledge into 3, only to realize that not only you can drink and apply oil in the middle of combat, they are more or less small buffs made inconsequential by the simplistic fighting mechanics.
    Also the dirt and grime in the series was not window dressing. Money was hard to come by in Witcher 1. You experience the poverty and destitute first hand like Geralt would in the book instead of being able to pack up the entire enemy camp and peddle them for cash.
    This game seriously would have been incredible if it just has a little bit more mechanical punch that pushes back on the players.
