- This GCR 'Mini Gala' was to commemorate the passing of 50 years since closure and saw a mix of traction typical of that time.
However, this video is yet another 'ride on the footplate' and two firsts for me. The loco being 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' which following recent repair work is now due to resume main line duties and the fact that it was unusually facing north (something I've only filmed once on the 'Jinty 47406' a long time ago). Most of the footage therefore is filmed on the return from Leicester North and in order to recall 1966 properly the majority is produced in the colours of that era....... Black & White!!!
My thanks as usual to my two former BR friends Alan Binder & Alan Butler for putting up with me..... again and to the GCR who indeed are heading.... 'Back To The Future'!!....... Enjoy the ride.
NOTE: This was filmed on Sunday 4th, services were:
15.15 x Loughborough- 15.45 Arr Leicester
16.00 x Leicester - 16.30 Arr Loughborough
Great video, I remember the early days behind the old Norwegian loco on just a bit of weed ridden rusty track. What an effort, what a transformation. I only hope I will live long enough to see the unification project in full swing and that the green lobby don't ban steam locomotive working.
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it. Yes, it's incredible what the GCR and others have achieved. If those you refer to attempt that, they should face a massive rebellion. Its being strangled enough by the rubbish coal we are having to import.
That is the best way of enjoying a day on the GCR! Thanks for sharing the experience Brian.
Certainly is Rob, who needs a 'lineside permit' lol. Glad you enjoyed it & there's another on the way and then I will give everyone a rest for a couple of weeks ............. Then it's the Swanage Railway!! Cheers, Brian.
Thanks Brian for shearing your exciting day on the GCR, nice to have friends in the right place. regards Mike.
Cheers Mike, there's another coming but am having to rush it as we are away tomorrow...... Yes, it certainly helps, BR 'old school' lol. Brian.
Great video! Well driven as well
Thanks Matt..... On both counts, ex BR you see lol. Cheers, Brian.
Great video... would really like to see it in colour though
Thanks, sorry though but the whole purpose was to illustrate the transition from 1966 to 2016 so there will not be a second colour version I'm afraid, Cheeers, Brian.
But where's the DeLorean? Haha come to think of it, it would be pretty awesome to see a BR Standard 7 push a DeLorean to 88 mph! 😄
love the video was it a good trip with Alan mate Nathaniel
Cheers Nathaniel, it was as always a good trip & glad you enjoyed it, Brian.
Good loco and great shots as always mate
Much appreciated and it was great to spend time on 'Ollie' before she returns to main line duties. I hope you will also enjoy my footage from the Swanage Railway ....... coming soon lol.
