"We may have an idea of who we think we are, but we are actually just a collection of habits: habitual thinking, habitual idea of ourself . There is really no fixed self because we are constantly becoming and creating ourself. It may look familiar because it is habitual".
    Profound!

That makes me really admire and respect and look up to Richard Gere he has a real genuine meaningful kind of fame now. Imagine being the catalyst to save millions of lives. His parents must be so proud of him.

Thank you Richard Gere for your transparency Re Buddhist practice. We are decidedly human and as such our journey into compassion and wisdom can be long but the journey begins with a single step

I supported ICT, putting money where my mouth was. Then I camped 21 days across Tibet in 2006, doing the three day kora around Lake Manasorovar and the three days around Mt. Kailash. You learn to appreciate your lifebreath. I also learned from Tibetans that you can get a passport at any police station (at the time for about 25 USD), but getting a visa required knowing someone and a place to go outside. Despite being told by our Sherpa guide, not to mention the Dalai Lama, I met young Tibetans, whose families had been relocated from the Dalai Lama's homeplace in Amdo to Zangmu on the Nepalese border. They spoke openly about the Dalai Lama's charity with shoes and clothing to them and some had actually visited Dharamsala legally to study. One of our guides had been taken out of the country illegally by her mother at age ten.Her mother returned and then had a passport. When she, the daughter returned at age seventeen, she was asked to spend 30 days in jail and was applying for a passport. Many are ignorant of laws or have no funds. They risk their lives while organizations like ICT could be funding pasports. Soldiers are under orders to stop people from crossing the border, just like in the U.S. on the Mexican border. Politics! I've met several Tibetans in Nepal, born in Nepal with Nepalese passports, who go back and forth with no problems. Furthermore, there are ancient legal agreements between Tibet, China and Nepal.Check it out.Truth is freedom.

I'm kind of lost for words when I watch this, but I want to say something??? ........... Why can't the beautiful people of Tibet be free. I wish so much that we could make that happen. Thank you Richard Gere for inspiration... Free Tibet. Through peace, love and compassion. Free Tibet.

I am a Christian. I live the Lord Jesus Christ the son of the creator of everything. The heaviness Mr Gere was speaking to that we all experience as human beings is called sin. It is a real burden that comes between us & a holy & righteous God. God, the great "I Am" of the Jewish & Christian Bible, sent his Son to live among us, to teach us true love for God & one another, to show us our unrighteousness & sin that separates us from God. We cannot fix ourselves by looking deep I side ourselves. We need to look upward. Jesus, fully God & fully man while on earth died willingly on a cross to take our sins upon himself. He died, was buried & raised to life 3 days later witnessed by over 500 at one time & others. He ascended to Heaven & sits at the right hand of God, Interceding on the behalf of those who have faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus saved me. I am a sinner saved by faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible says "no man comes to the Father (God) except by me (Jesus). Jesus is a liar, lunatic or he is Lord. You have to seek him for yourself. Jesus did all the work for you on the cross. Christians do not work for their salvation. It is the gift of God to ANYONE who repents of their sin & calls on the name of Jesus. I love you all in the name of Jesus & pray that you come to experience the peace, grace, mercy & salvation of the Lord Jesus. It is a great God who will make such a plan for sinful man.

1:47 "they intoxicated everything in that culture"
Yes. And this, radically, brutal and without mercy !
The Chinese built up Streets, Houses, Schools, Hospitals, Sanitary facilities, raised up Hygiene and Nutrition, finished the Bond-Slave system of the Lamas and kicked in the ass those few rich and privileged oligarchs who were in alliance with the Lamas to oppress and tyrannize the Tibetan people, the poor ones.
Yeah. Was a highly toxic action against the Tibetans.
Thanks Richard, for the fairy tales.

Sam Harris opened my eyes to meditation - an Ivy League scientist who even experimented with psychedelics …. Now I come back to Gere … mmmh interesting
