There are actually cemeteries in Europe designated as a conservation area because endangered creatures call it home, including lichen on graves. I'd imagine this monument is similar to a grave where you have to be very careful what you put on it. Even the compressed air of the canister could cause damage to those ancient rocks.

I think Just Stop Oil vastly overestimates the effectiveness of disruption/attention grabbing over persuasion, but I can still evaluate smarter and dumber tactics within their worldview. When they spraypainted a luxury car showroom, that was thoughtful in a couple ways that is not true of spraypainting Stonehenge or throwing soup at paintings or blocking traffic. Firstly, the connection between car and oil use is identifiable even to fairly apathetic or uneducated members of the public. Secondly, their move inconvenienced an actual CEO whose business relies on oil, as opposed to making Joe Citizen's life harder for seemingly no good reason. Thus making the public less likely to support climate change reform, not more.

To be honest, I'm very passionate about history, also intriqued by those Stone Age structures (as some just have basis of a building, that creates a ring/outline of stones), and as to how archeologists took the other 'Seahenge' to the museum, despite the pagan and local community objecting to it staunchly, was bad. And whilst I'm glad it was just orange starch, it somewhat kind of instinctively irks me how people treat those artifacts, especially as they remain in the same place they were found in. I think preventing climate change (or slowing it down) is a good cause though, especially as it endangers other artifacts (or just shows them to the elements, like finds from ice bjergs) and am glad it wasn't really damaged.

These kinds of actions are demonstrations of desperation. They motivated people that are not already blackpilled (like you I assume?) to take action themselves. It's just a bad optics move, and is not going to convince anyone. It paints environmental activists as people who deface art and historical artifacts, and this type of bad PR is the last thing we need. FFS there are like a million other targets that you could've done this to that wouldn't cause this negative PR, would still generate attention, and would've been far more beneficial overall, but no, we're going to deface a historical monument known worldwide that's completely unrelated to climate change. Fucking genius.
Climate change is an issue almost everyone is aware of these days, whether or not they truly understand the threat, and raising awareness in this manner hurts the cause, possibly more than it helps. We don't need to appease a bunch of lefties and fulfill their own need to do _something_ , we need to be convincing _liberals_ and _conservatives_ that this is a problem with effective strategies, and approaches that meet them where they're at. I don't give a fuck if any leftist thinks Just Stop Oil's actions are effective, I care if _the people we need to sway_ think they're effective, and clearly they don't, given by the reaction from liberals and conservatives.
Yes, civility politics is dumb as hell in the face of such a dire issue, but if you want to actually move the people who need convincing, you have literally no other choice but to play along. No one who is against climate change right now will be swayed without a certain degree of it, and giving up on convincing people is not an option unless you want to go lead an armed revolution and put yourself in the crosshairs of big oil. What's more important to you? Changing minds enough to fix climate change, or ideological purity? If you think that you're too good for civility politics and working to meet people where they're at, then your sense of ideological purity clearly means more to you than actually fixing climate change. Convincing people and actually changing minds is far more important than what whatever online leftists think is sufficiently "revolutionary".

This exactly. They need actual support. Not just attention.

As a Brit and in agreement with the message I genuinely believe Vaush is wrong on this one. He said they say no don't do X do Y instead but if they did Y instead it would make no difference but I can say with like 99.9% certainty that actually most of the voices I've heard on the ground would be absolutely fine with them doing Y instead of X. Vaush is objectively just simply wrong on this one. Vast majority I've interacted with on the matter are not against the message just the specific method and genuinely would not be opposed if they just targeted the message differently. Most would at least not stand in the way, and many would tacitly support and quietly semi cheer on from the sidelines.
Edit: not really relevant but as a side note I actually grew up just a few miles from Stonehenge and hundreds of times admired it through the window of my dad's car or later upon getting such, my own car window or motorcycle helmet visor whilst driving or riding past, usually westbound on the A303. Good times, fond memories. Please leave a historical site I have fond memories of the F* alone. People would be rightfully p*ed off if I borrowed one of those planes that drop water on forest fires and used it to drop orange paint on the pyramids in Egypt or the great wall of China or the Taj Mahal.
Edit 2: no need for comments pointing out that I would get blasted out of the sky trying to drop paint on historical sites from a large slow aircraft or questioning my ability to theoretically do so (I have 8 hours so far in a Cessna towards maybe one day completing a PPL and have many thousands of hours in various simulators so almost certainly could if not intercepted by SAM), lol.

@@OskarGibson That implies there are enough people to care. pro-Palestine protests where triggered by an event and a movement that reacted to the situation at the time, with massive support from student organizations globally. Climate activism can't work like that. There's very little motive for basic protests, and there's no event to trigger broader public discussion. On top of that, climate is far more readily dismissed, and that's why its activism will be rejected by people with anything resembling a busy life. A climate protest will literally never be as big as a protest to genocide, unless we're literally on fire. Harsher methods are just more effective here. A good example of the problem blind energy can cause is Germany replacing nuclear power with solar and wind, which requires coal to be reliable, and so actually increasing their carbon footprint.
