5/8" keyed shaft can hold up to like 15 hp according to Machinery’s Handbook. Based on Shaft size=((60xP)/N)^(1/3). P = HP and N equals RPM.

The 305 Jaden . It was a joke because he's so lightweight he can pop wheelies on just about everything they build. I may be stupid, but everybody else seemed to understand without having to have it explained to them!

I'm hoping they can build more in house CVTs in the future. There isn't much out there for 20hp+ engines besides the 780 and 94c Duster. Plus those are the only ones that'll survive above 3600 rpm without issues.

That looks like a Comet 20 series clone, with a 5/8 to 3/4 keyed adapter. The 30 series Comet clone can be had for 53.99, not sure how much that adapter goes for though. (30 series also comes with a copper bushing for the driven pulley)

I understand why you used the washers.. but in my experence here.. stamped washers are never all the same thickness. So may wanna mic those.. just dont wanna bust a engine case.. but I doubt those engine plates are perfectly flat in those bikes anyway.. I like your square tubing idea a whole lots better. Good work. Keeping it interesting there for folks.. and yall 2 do make a good team. Kinda like Bo and Luke Duke. And thats meant as a compliment guys..

On the CT 200 U, it is not necessary to completely remove the cross brace with the bracket for the chain guard, or to toss the chain guard. Leave about four inches of the cross brace behind the torque converter, coming up from the frame tube. Drill hole clear through the four inch brace butt, about 3/4 inch from cut end. Cut off about one inch from the front end of the chain guard, just back of the front mounting hole. Drill new hole in front of the chain guard. Use cut off piece with old hole as guide. Straighten chain guard if misshapened while cutting. Make a metal bracket to run from brace butt to new hole in chain guard. Drill holes in each end of bracket. Assemble using bolts and nuts of proper size. I bent the new bracket so it could be mounted in back of the brace butt (chain side). Then bent the upper part of the bracket, away from the chain to ensure enough clearance for the nut in the back of the front of the chain guard. Nothing like having a chain guard where one was supposed to be.
Factory engine has idle speed set at around 1740 rpm. That is because the engine came with a centrifugal clutch. Belt of torque converter doesn't engage until 2200 rpm. First reset idle to around 600-800 rpm. Shut off engine.
Disassemble the drive pulley. The final piece that is keyed on the crankshaft, kind of squarish looking with a heavy bead the full length of each "corner"? That is the part the moving half of the drive pulley rides on. The inner nose of that keyed piece that contacts the crankshaft - machine about one thousandth inch from that face. Then find shims no larger in diameter than that facing of the crank shaft. Play with the shims, put on one at a time against that facing of the crankshaft, and reassemble pulley. Fire up the engine with rear wheel off the ground. You want the belt to not engage or barely engage at idle. Shut the engine off. Add more shims or remove shims until belt does not engage, or barely engages at idle. Shut off engine. Place rear wheel on ground. Restart engine. Hang on to handle bars. If belt does not engage at idle, but does engage just above idle, that is about right. You will know it is right, if when the wheel was off the ground, the belt just barely engaged. But when the engine was started with the rear wheel on the ground the belt did not engage at idle.
Set up this way, the torque converter gives you much smoother starts from a standing start, compared to the standing starts from the 1740rpm and 2200 engagement of the factory set up. You will actually have a broader throttle range.
But if you have boosted the power of your engine, you are on your own. My suggestion is only for original factory engine.

Hey RBG! Have you guys tried any type of overdrive lockout bushings in the TC to bring the top end rps up higher? Seems like they all top out around 40-45 regardless of how much power/torque the motor is outputting due to the drive pulley going into OD. Juggernaut improves it but without spending another $90 on it, I’m gonna try a bike stem and see if it starts chewing up belts or not

I took my stock 200 ex out pig hunting. Tons of fun but on the steep mountain climbs it just didn't have enough power. So I've swapped in a Predator 212 (3/4" shaft), installed a TAV2 torque converter and added a set of pegs (located about where we cut off the stabilizer bar) to stand on, putting more weigh over the drive wheel and stabilizing the bike during steep hill climbs. I also pulled the charging stator and flywheel off the original Coleman engine. Everything fit perfectly and I still have power to the headlight. I haven't had a chance to go climbing yet, but the bike has a ton more power, acceleration is smoother and there isn't a screaming centrifugal clutch between my legs. I now need to upgrade the breaks... any ideas? Steep descents are a white knuckle experience and a bit dangerous!!

These CVTs, aka torque converters, theoretically should be superior to the factory jack-shaft setup. Assuming there is no belt slip, it should start at a 3:1 ratio and spin up to a 1:1 ratio. The factory jack-shaft is a fixed 2:1 ratio. I’m would like to see the speed comparison between the two on a mini bike equipped with the stock jack-shaft.

Ive was thinking about getting a couple of these bike so me and the old lady can just ride around camp sites and stuff. My question is we are both in our mid 50s and lm about 275LB not looking for a speed record but if we kept them on roads and simple trail is my wait going to be a problem

On all the videos putting torque converters on they all raise the motor. I am wondering about something maybe you can answer for me. On the mounting plate there are a few options for the mounting holes . That makes it look like you could use different mounting holes and not have to raise the motor. You used the middle hole. looks like you could use one of the ones next to it which look like they are on the same bolt hole cercal. I would think it would change the angle of the converter maybe enough to not hit the frame. It would make the chain be at a different angle going to the back tire. So basically instead of being mounted at 4 o'clock it would be at like 3 o'clock. The only thing that I could maybe see being an issue is the exhaust might hit the converter. I am only going by what I can see in the videos but have been wondering since I saw the first video. If you understand what I am saying do you think that would work? No matter what I cant wait until I can buy one of these!

in the video looks a little off when you were trying to get the drive pulley as close to the mounting bolts as possable.

Dear red beard. Last night I fired up a 212 predator. This was its first start up. After about 15 minutes of running we shut it if and checked the oil, the new oil smelled like gas. I'm no expert but I'm not sure if that's supposed to happen. Anything helps. Thx

I noticed the regular Predator 212 (212 cc) engine has a 3/4" shaft...while Coleman's standard is the 196cc with the puny 5/8" shaft.

You just noticed? The puny 16mm shaft can handle more power than a stock 212 can put out that's for sure. Any 196 clone crankshaft is a direct swap if you want 3/4".
